The sister of a 23-year-old New York man killed in a bizarre incident at a Boston pub spoke out today, saying the family is a mess in the wake of their loved ones death.
We dont know what to do with ourselves, said Jennifer DiMaria, 25, whose brother Michael died after he was hit in the neck with flying shards of glass at The Lansdowne pub Saturday. My parents are walking around like zombies, my grandparents are devastated Well miss him so much.
Jennifer DiMaria spoke to the Globe from her family home in Hicksville, N.Y., a few hours after prosecutors

Sadly, there is nothing "bizzare" about this incident. It is all too common.
Awful. Condolences for the family.
Could Hector be an illegal?
Is he claiming that it wasn't him who threw the glass, or is he just claiming "not my fault!"?
Well, in the sense that innocent bystanders are commonly killed by the stupid actions of others just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, yeah.
Condolences to the young man’s family.
Not to make generalizations, because I have some roots there myself, but it does seem some of the dirtiest of dirtbags are found in bars in South Boston. I’m not referring to the victim.
The Lansdowne Pub is NOT in south boston.
That’s exactly what I was thinking when I made my comment. I have been to bars where people are way too quick to resort to violence and hurt bystanders. If anyone goes to bars like that, they need to be aware that things like this happen all too often. If you are a tourist and the bar looks seedy, stay away.
Boston pub. Gotta be Irish.
Man those cops were acting stupidly...why not just convict the mug? Sue the mug maker? that’s the answer...
Isn’t that the pub right behind the Green Monster?
I just ask because I know it’s a cultural thing with Mexicans to get totally wasted and get into fights, or proceed to get into your car and drive drunk (usually into an american family’s car)...
Yeah, it’s on lansdowne street very very close to Fenway.
It goes with the territory.
Years ago a couple of Mass thugs beat two Asian Americans to death with baseball bats. Since the Prosecutor couldn't decide which guy used which bat to kill which victim, they got off on involuntary manslaughter.
There are corollaries to this standard ~ for example, let a Kennedy drown you ~ no penalty.
These are all good reasons to just avoid going to MA.
Congress should immediately enact a seven day waiting period on all glass mugs.
Is the Boston Globe a tabloid?
DiMaria was one of three people struck by flying glass after Hector Guardiola allegedly tossed a heavy beer mug toward a man he had been arguing with inside the nightclub, according to prosecutors.
Authorities said DiMaria and the two other victims may have been acquainted with the man who argued with Guardiola, but they said none of the three victims had any role in the confrontation.
Polumbaum said the heavy beer mug tossed by Guardiola broke. DiMaria was struck in the throat, cutting through his jugular vein.
DiMaria was a 2009 graduate of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., and had been working for a Wall Street firm, his sister said.
According to David O’Brien, father of Danielle O’Brien, a friend of DiMaria’s who was injured by glass shards, the trip to Boston was intended as a get-together among former college classmates.
His daughter told him that one member of their group of five had left their table at the popular bar to go to the bathroom and, along the way, inadvertently brushed into Guardiola. The two men had heated words but moments later, the friend returned to the table, not mentioning the incident.
The last name sounds, and looks, Italian
LOL. Its a “cultural thing” for way to many cultures to get drunk and fight, including my own Irish culture.
I would imagine that’s the only reason this story was posted.
not necessarily. I know someone named Hector Garcia whose family has been here for generations. I think his great-great grandparents immigrated from PR. But this guy’s last name sounds Italian.
The article keeps repeating the 'heavy beer glass'. I'm guessing that is what will be blamed. Not the guy, but the glass. And now beer glasses will be banned in all pubs. ugh!
Especially mugs painted black. Oh, and with accessory rails. And handles! That’s the ticket!
“Ettore” is “Hector” in Italian.
No. Similar to the New York Times.
