Mark Levin Slams Chris Christie on 9/11 Mosque
Mark Levin ^ | 08/16/2010

Posted on 08/16/2010 7:01:35 PM PDT by Brices Crossroads

Mark Levin today slammed NJ Governor Chris Christie for his sanctimonious attitude that the controversy over the Mosque at ground Zero is "just politics" and "is being used as a political football by BOTH parties!" He says that this attempt By Christie to make the two positions on the mosque (pro and con) equivalent is nothing more than a naked effort to portray himself as "above it all" and look down his nose (so to speak) at those who have the courage to oppose this thing (most prominently former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin--although Levin does not mention her by name).

Levin praised the courage of those who have stood up to Obama and Bloomberg and opposed this mosque. The "Great One" said that Christie was "dead wrong" to link the opposition to the mosque to intolerance.

Quote: "Just becasue you clobber public sector unions and cut your state's budget does not necessarily mean you are Presidential material." Levin also says he is concerned about Christie's immigration positions.

He tells Christie to: "get serious and take a position" rather than being afraid to "get your hands dirty" by taking a position. The clip is only 2:45 and is worthwhile to listen to.

Good for Mark.

Mr. Christie, you will not be allowed to vote present on this, and neither will anyone else.

I had a lot of hope for Christie. I guess I’ve been bamboozled by a politician again. That has been happening to me a lot lately.

Christie’s entire statement:

“Given my last position, that I was the first U.S attorney post 9/11 in New Jersey. I understand acutely the pain and sorrow and upset of the family members who lost loved ones that day. At the hands of radical Muslim extremist. And their sensitivities and concerns have to be taken into account. Just because it’s nearly nine years later, those sensitivities cannot and should not be ignored. On the other hand, we cannot paint all of Islam with that brush…We have to bring people together. And what offends me the most about all this, is that it’s being used as a political football by both parties. And what disturbs me about the president remarks is that he is now using it as a political football as well. I think the president of the United State should rise above that. And should not be using this as a political football, and I don’t believe that it would be responsible of me to get involved and comment on this any further because it just put me in the same political arena as all of them.

“My principles on this are two-fold. One, that we have to acknowledge, respect and give some measure of deference to the feelings of the family members who lost there loved ones there that day. But it would be wrong to so overreact to that, that we paint Islam with a brush of radical Muslim extremists that just want to kill Americans because we are Americans. But beyond that…I am not going to get into it, because I would be guilty of candidly what I think some Republicans are guilty of, and the president is now the president is guilty of, of playing politics with this issue, and I simply am not going to do it.”

Asked if he’d call upon both parties to stop, he said, “Well, that again will be playing politics with the issue. I said what I feel about it, and I don’t believe it is up to me to pontificate on other people about what they should do. I just observe what I observe. And I don’t believe that this issue should be a political football. I just don’t. And I think that both sides of this issue now are using this as a political football. And I don’t think it brings people together in America, I think it just further drives people apart, and creates divisions, and I think that’s bad for our country. And all people in our country suffer when those kind of things happen.”

Well, since Christie doesnt get a vote on this at all, I guess it doesnt matter what his opinion is.

Where are all of the Federalists and State’s Rights people here? Why do we care what the Governor of one state thinks of the actions of the mayor of a city in another state?

In other words the Republicans who have the courage to stand up against this are “playing politics” with the issue. I wonder if this creep realized how that sounded after it rolled off his thick tongue. Sarah Palin is just as bad as Obama, ey, Chrissie?

Aside from his being anti-spending, what hope did you have in him? He never promised any social issues and he even said that in a state like Jersey, he wouldnt allow guns. How did he bamboozle you if he never promised these things?

Thanks for the ping BC. Beyond the immigration issue, Levin should also be concerned about Christie's position on gun control. If he ever runs for national office, Christie will have to come to places like here in TX and explain it.

I notice a number of Republican politicians today adopting Palin's position on the mosque ("We know they have the right to build it, Mr. President, but should they?") without mentioning her. LOL. Some lead, some follow.

"Christie's entire statement" is a post of 441 words.

How about, "Hell, no."

Christie's going to get a hernia trying to straddle this issue.

WTF, "bring people together" vs. "drive people apart"--

They knocked the towers down, murdered 3,000, and want to plant their flag on the scene of the crime like the famous Iwo Jima photo and statue.

And Christie tries to make nice-nice with a mouthful of dhimmi excrement.

Not havin' that.

The attempt to place a mosque at the site where jihadists murdered 3,000 innocent people is an attempt to deliver the ultimate slap in the face to America. The building will represent nothing less than a giant, permanent monument to Islamic victory over America. It’s like a practical joke. Muslims (and everybody else around the world, for that matter) are laughing their asses off.

You either understand this or you are a fool.

Evidently Christie doesn’t realize that it’s not just those who lost loved ones who were impacted by the attacks.

America was attacked. The people on the planes were from all across America, their families will never get over their pain.

It’s not about NY, it’s about America.

Christie tried to finesse the issue.......he didn’t quite get there. But he by no means deserved the headline.

“Christie tried to finesse the issue”

He is a coward and that was the point Levin was making.

Christie’s words:

“I am not going to get into it, because I would be guilty of candidly what I think some Republicans are guilty of, and the president is now the president is guilty of, of playing politics with this issue, and I simply am not going to do it.”

He deserved the headline because he tired to come off as enlightened as opposed to the benighted conservatives (like Palin) who said “Hell no!” to the freaking mosque.

Christie has blown himself up politically and it took a pretty big bomb to do it!

It's stunning to me that people can even question the appropriateness of this, it's PC gone wild!

My daughter asked me about this today and my reply was similar to what you wrote;

“NO they should not! Radical muslims murdered 3000 Americans on 9/11. Muslims don't need to build a mosque at the site - as a ‘victory sign’! If they were truely peaceful they wouldn't even consider it”.

“Long ago the Pope John Paul II had the Carmelite Nuns move their convent at the remains of Auschwitz out of respect for the victims who died there”.

It is a horrendous endeavor by the muslim creeps in charge to even plan such an insult.

I hope the rumor that they are giving up their cultural center is true.

It is related to their historical building of muslim buildings on, by or over sites of past victories. Even the place where the plane went down in the field in Penn had plans to erect a memorial very close in design to the ugly muslim cresent with the star....just ick.

I wonder if they thought it out (their sick plan to erect an in your face building beside the twin tower horror) and realized that the millions visiting the future memorial site would be tempted to spit upon the sidewalk in front of the muslim building? Or carry signs calling them out for what they REALLY ARE-people who move to OTHER countries and attempt to subvert and re-write the laws of the same....I mean...I don't think freedom of religion includes a guarantee to build WHEREVER you so choose nor does it include the RIGHT to subvert the culture you have chosen to live in.

In other words, if a muslim does not LIKE American, or British or French or German or Dutch or Italian or ANY OTHER NATION's culture, they should simply not choose to live there. PERIOD. Talk about insult.

How many Christains or Jewish or Buddhist or any other religion of this world is over in Iran or Saudi Arabia DEMANDING freedom to build churches and to force the government there to submit to a special system of rules just for them?

Get real What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Muslims need to grow up and recognize the barbaric nature of their religion.

Muslims are arrogant and very, very horrific towards women. Just yesterday the Taliban in a northern province of Afghanistan STONED a man and woman to death for adultery. Barbaric. (The man did not cooperate and die so he had to be shot three times in the end.) Muslims are animals.

Wow...that was disappointing.

An easy way to "finesse" this would have been to release a statement that said something simple like...

Muslims of goodwill should acknowledge the wishes of the 9/11 families and relocate their proposed community center as a show of enlightened compromise.

...and leave out all the crap about "playin' politics" and "political footballs". He kept saying he should stay out of it, but he couldn't stop himself.

Kinda stupid.

Christie is more right than Levin. The Muslims have a right to build a mosque ANYWHERE as long as there is a willing seller and no contracts are violated. Those who want to destroy their property rights are only creating a precedent for big brother to do the same to them.

Get a clue, you. Nobody is arguing against property rights or religious freedom, or asking the government to intervene.

It’s all about shaming the Muslim Imam and his pals into backing out on their own out of decency and respect to Americans.

What a novel thought, huh?

What a load. We don’t have any obligation to let them build anything. Any more than we would let the Japanese build a shrine to the Japanese Emperor on Pearl Harbor over the top of the Arizona.

Islam is a statist political ideology bent on world domination, fouled even further by a cult religion veneer. It isn’t any different than fascism or communism, except that it’s more virulent and dangerous than either.

Property rights and free speech don’t extend to those whose well-known and oft-stated goal is the destruction of our nation, its people, and the crushing of liberty.

The Constitution of the United States is not a suicide pact, or a license for fools to get our people killed.

Well Mr. Governor, while it is a much more intimately personal pain for those who lost friends and loved ones, it was not an Attack on NYC! It was an attack on America! ANd we ALL fell pain from it, still, even now.

Were the imam and whoever else is behind this mosgue seriously interested in bringing people together, they would not be planning to pour salt in an open wound, Ground Zero would never have been suggested as a place to build the thing. And were it about religious freedom, would not the Greek Orthodox Church, a landmark in the area, have been rebuilt by now? Why isn’t it? You might want to find out, Sir.

The limits of kooky libertarianism on display:

The Muslims have a right to build a mosque ANYWHERE as long as there is a willing seller and no contracts are violated

Kaaba, Constantinople, Jerusalem, Damascus.....just a few examples of Muslim mosques over religious sites of others after conquest.

I suppose you could call that a contract.........I'm certain the libertarian cowards of their day agreed quite heartily.
