Our One-Term President
The American Spectator ^ | August 17, 2010 | Tom Bethell

Posted on 08/17/2010 3:24:52 AM PDT by Scanian

It's a good bet right now that Barack Obama will be a one-term president. The enthusiasm that once shielded this hyphenated American has dissipated. His supporters, although still numerous, have discovered that he lacks Bill Clinton's centrist instincts, and even his charm. The anti-Bush mania that swept the country from 2006-09 finally burned itself out.

It's always possible that the Republicans will nominate a dud. That has happened so often that it should even be considered likely. Not since 1980 has there been an outstanding GOP candidate. But at this stage it's too difficult to predict the 2012 nominee, so I'll drop that subject.

Most important from Obama's point of view is the economy. It is still in poor shape and is likely to stay that way. The unemployment picture has not brightened. In California it is 12.6 percent, while in Michigan it is 14.9 percent. In Europe, meanwhile, the economic picture ranges from uncertain to grave and I'll have more to say on that.

Should start calling him Rollback, cause that’s what we’re gonna do.

I'm very afraid that our country will be so laid waste by the KCM (Kenyan Closet Muslim),there might not be many Republican or Democratic takers for the job :-(

One term should be more than enough. Say what you will about his poll numbers, he’s gotten almost everything he wanted passed. Clearly, he isn’t as interested in his poll numbers as his critics are. They haven’t stopped him or Nancy and Harry.

I usually scoff at those who claim to be able to predict the future but it is hard to argue with this article.

Obama, and the Progressive Fascists Democrats who surround him, are completely clueless on how to make an economy work. Given that fact it is very hard to imagine a scenario where, despite the slavish, obsequious treatment he gets from the faux Journolists in the US Media, where he puts together a win in 2012.

I know exactly where I will be on 1/19/13.

I’ll be in Washington D.C. awaiting the swearing in of Sarah Heath Palin as the next President of the United States.

This will be because the tyrant, BHO, made sure of it. Because he made too many amateur mistakes, is not smart, and does not understand the voters. And he’ll not be allowed to overrule the voters.

I have never believed, on NO DAY, that Americans will meekly submit to this whole bass-ackwards Cloward-Piven thing. This is a theory put forth by the same people that assume Americans will just meekly submit to a gov’t health care plan. Really? Wait until the minority and poor population learns they have been dumped in a bankrupt Medicaid system.

It is not in the DNA of Americans, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age or anything else to submit.

We don’t submit. We raise hell. There is a difference.

We did OK in '84, too.....

It's always possible that the Republicans will nominate a dud.

It's almost a guarantee that the Republicrats will nominate a dud.

And that'll force the TEA party to actually have to field it's own candidate. Which'll see the Republicrats fight, knowing full well it'd give the election to Obama (a la Scuzzafava in NY). And due to that, we'll probably see the destruction of the Republicrat party as the rank-and-file flee to the TEA party.

Leaving the party elite to then merge into their instinctive home, the Democrat party.

I think the number who submit is far greater than those who resist. nThe submitters are patiently waiting for checks in the mail to solve their problems.

Absolutely nailed it!

And it appears that 2012 is going to be more of the same...and more's the pity!

"China is destined to become the leader in the world economy..."

That smarts...that really does. But there does not seem to be a way around it.

Heck, in Indiana today the national UAW recommended to the local union that they take a pay cut from $29/hr to $15.90 per hour. The local union turned it down and now 661 Union members are going to be out of work without any income at all....and their hands out to the "gummint" for welfare and unemployment insurance.

And the cars they could/should have been building will be built somewhere else....

Can anyone say, "China"???

Tom Bethell, author of The Noblest Triumph. Wonderful book, not a mere rehash like so many conservative tomes lately (which shall be nameless).

It is not in the DNA of Americans, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age or anything else to submit.

You are correct. The only problem is that Americans, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age or anything else are fast becoming a minority in this country. Everyone living in the USA is not an American in the truest sense, even those with citizenship obtained for the benefits, not for love and loyalty to our nation.

I could have done without all the name-dropping and party mentions in the article.

It may be a sound idea to concentrate very very hard on the upcoming mid-terms as opposed to getting our "underwear" all in a twist about the little tin god.

Let's find the conservatives and get them into office. The goal is to take back the house as a Republican majority and to get close to a "break-even" in the Senate, and capture as many governorships as is possible.

In that manner, the little tin god will be unable to get anything done in the last (hopefully) two years of his reign.

Then we all can worry about 2012.

Let's stick to the task at hand and take one sure step at a time.
