Eleanor Clift: Obama Justice Department Let Tom DeLay 'Off the Hook' in Spirit of Bipartisanship
NewsBusters ^ | August 17, 2010 | P.J. Gladnick

The Justice Department has dropped its case against former House Majority Leader, Tom Delay, and Newsweek's Eleanor Clift is in mourning. She just can't accept the fact that there was no substance to the charges against DeLay and ascribes the dropping of the case to the Obama Justice Department trying to score points with Republicans in the interest of bipartisanship. Clift also manages to smear the late former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens in her angst over the dropped charges:

The Justice Department’s decision to let former House majority leader Tom DeLay off the hook and end the six-year-long investigation that drove him out of Washington at the peak of his power should win the Obama administration some points with Republicans, if not Democrats. This is the second high-profile Republican that Attorney General Eric Holder has vindicated, the other being the late senator Ted Stevens, whose corruption case Holder declined last year to prosecute.

Facts are only symantics. The real issue is that Holder let him off.

She could be right.

Anybody remember what happened to Sandy Berger?

He STILL hasn’t taken the polygraph test that was part of the plea agreement.

"......letting DeLay off in the spirit of bipartisanship."

Oh my, it appears the ever-lovely but dense Eleanor is unwittingly accusing Obama's pathetic stooge, Eric Holder, of playing politics with his power as head of the Justice Department.

How? Because being "bipartisan" is just as political as being "partisan" or being "nonpartisan". The words themselves denote 'political parties' and political positions.

So Clift trying to get Holder off the hook by implying he was promoting the spirit of "bipartisanship" in the case of springing DeLay is still a perversion, Eleanor, dear. He was being political as hell in his decision.

Justice is served by adhering to the LAW, not applying any criterion of pollitical "partisanship", "non-partisanship" or "bi-partisanship" to it at all.

Eleanor is certainly one of America's deepest thinkers.

Eleanor Clift is a disgusting woman.

She is a mean-spirited partisan hack that lies to support her point of view.

Far more dangerous.

YEAH; RIGHT!!! That would be like a judge letting a guy out of jail who wanted to kill him. Anybody who believes this move by the Zero Administration will curry favor with Republicans, send me a Private Reply. I have a Winter Ski Resort down here in Southeast Texas I'll sell you real cheap.

He was found innocent by a communist “justice” department. That means that there was absolutely no substance to the accusations.
Too bad a good man had to suffer through all that - but that’s what happens to White male Christian normalsexuals.

Maybe she should be investigated. I hope that in 2012 we elect a good American President who appoints an ant-communist AG to root them out and prosecute.

“After 6 years they still couldn’t come up with something so they finally gave up. An no sorry about those legal bills Tom either. This was nothing but a political prosecution to take down an opponent.”

And to drain his cash so he will have nothing to fight back with.

Techable lesson here. You want to beat the rats you bankrupt them.

Oh Great and Merciful Obama!

Thou hast bestowed bipartisanship upon us!
In America, the innocent shall be set free!

In return, we shall forget how this man’s reputation and career have been forever destroyed. It is our obligation, to the Great Obama, to ignore the injustice of opportunistic democrat prosecutors who hath tread upon the spirit of the Constitution for temporary polical gain.

it is a shame that there is no way to penalize the Justice Department for keeping this non-case open for six years and causing Delay heavy expenditures in defending.

Either grossly incompetent or determined to get an indictment with no evidence. Either way an injustice for Delay.

I have GOT to know what these people smoke!! To be this demented, it has to be some really potent stuff!! The charges against DeLay were false from the outset, but they achieved the Dems' objective - get DeLay out of the way!!

Too bad. Texas and America are the biggest losers of this Democrat dirty trick.

The two lead attys working for the FedGov in the Ted case are also being brought up on charges themselves.

But, they got what they wanted, a Dem Senator from AK.

Next election, little markie will be out on his azz - the Dems dropped 5.5 Million in attack ads on Ted - and the election was decided by less than 4000 votes.

That’s the whole set up. When Rangle and Waters are let off free they can say “We let Delay off so let’s be fair.” Clift is saying what she was told to say. Others will be saying it, too.
