A flight attendant on a Southwest Airlines flight took custody of a baby girl after the child was slapped by her mother on Monday, the Albuquerque International Sunport police told ABC News. Officials say the mom appeared to be frustrated and may have slapped the baby.
When the plane landed in Albuquerque, the family was met by police. A Southwest Airlines spokeswoman told ABC News the local authorities were called "out of precaution for the child."
The parents were questioned by police and released to continue to their final destination.

The end of the article sounds a lot more reasonable than the beginning.
Sometimes little babies need a good slap to remind them who is boss.

Good for her. You don’t hit a 13 month old child.
Some airline stewardess’ are wonderful at helping stressed parents. They are wonderful.
Some will deploy the slide, grab a beer and bail out.
What is the origin of your picture. Is it a prank?
The baby pulled the rope for the slide, grabbed two beers and split, after giving everyone the baby-finger.
Since the police were called, I go with the former rather than the the later
And yunz wonder why I don’t like to fly anymore.
If only he had taken the large person sharing half my seat with him!
Dang, you can’t even beat your children on airplanes anymore.
There, fixed it.
Thanks for the injection of political correctness to FR.
Any dimwitted leftie who can not recognize that a child over a year old is no longer a baby has zero business working with the public.
Either as an airline attendant or as a girbilist.
It’s not PC! That term is outmoded - and people here have been using PC long before me...
picky, picky. Showing my age!
Actually a baby’s cry is designed to agitate. Otherwise the species would have died out long ago. ;o)
I never hesitated to give my child a pop in the diapers to get their attention when they were misbehaving, but slapping a child in the face with an open palm is just something that I wouldn’t do for anything. Unless they were teens screeching the f-bomb and calling me names, then they’d be in for it.
The flight attendant took custody of the child, whether the parents were willing or not, it seems. Sometimes all the child needs is to be in calmer, soothing arms when there is stress between the parents.
As for alerting the police, I have mixed feelings, but if I had a sure feeling at all the parent was being abusive to the child, I wouldn’t hesitate.
Anyone that slaps a baby in the face on my flight is going to wake up in the ER wondering why they can’t feel their arms and legs.
When it comes to little kids, I will not hesitate to impose my own narrow code of personal morality on anyone.
‘may have slapped’....they don’t know if they was a slap?
Good grief.
You know I wonder if the child was just crying or throwing a temper tantrum. Which means crying, screaming, kicking, biting, hitting and sometimes head butting. Yeah, realistically, even one year olds can be violent when in the middle of a melt down. I can’t help but wondering if it was one of those time when a good smack (it can be felt, but is not harmful) is in order. I couldn’t imagine sitting on an airplane with a child, one year or older behaving in such a way that makes it difficult to console or restrain without injury to oneself. However if the child was just crying, its a comfort, grin & bear it situation, which a smack on the bottom would only magnify the crying. Boy, I am so glad my kids are pretty much grown up.
then you have to put that </sarc thingie there .... :)
Young children often have problems with the air pressure and their ears hurting.
I remember taking the red eye from San Jose to Baltimore thinking the kids would sleep the entire flight. WRONG! The older one did sleep but my 2 yr old screamed bloody murder the whole trip — her ears were hurting. I had even given them Benedryl beforehand. I felt horrible for the passengers trying to sleep but also for my little one who was in terrible pain. What a nightmare.
“That term is outmoded”
That is a neon sign in capital letter say, “I AM PC.” Congratulation on your denial of the obvious. That is another clear mark of a Dim.
RE: “Young children often have problems with the air pressure and their ears hurting.”

Yeah, and that’s just one of about two dozen reasons I refuse to fly anymore — don’t need to go anywhere by air badly enough that I need to put up with the crap involved with flying nowadays.
“Catholic. Monarchist. Texan. Any questions?”
Well, yeah, I got a question: If quadriplegia seems to you to be a just and Christian punishment for a slap in the face, why didn’t you include “Jerk” in your list?
Buddy, I’m old enough, and the world’s best Mema. I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to! No sarcasm intended.
geesh.
Bull-Pokey! ...That's precisely one of the reasons this nation is in the shape it's currently in.
Well when you’re in the business it is a demeaning title ... several times I’ve been called a “Stew” when in fact I was the pilot in command of the flight ... how does ‘housewife’ sound?
Thanks for your comment.
Anyone who slaps a baby in the face in my presence is going to lose the ability to slap anyone ever again. That's not a threat; it's cold scientific fact. Verb sap.
Sincerely,
B-Chan
I LOVE being a HOUSEWIFE and I LOVE the TITLE....only one title better would be MOM.
Ok, you like to refer to yourself as housewife or mom ... you like them, fine, I have no problem with that. I however I do not like the title or like to be referred to as ‘stewardess’ or ‘Stew’ ... that should be my prerogative, right?
A sense of humor would help you a lot in life.....laugh it off. Don’t be like Madeline Albright.
whatever
Anyone who slapped a 13 month old baby in front of me would wish they hadn’t.

Heard all your whiny liberal “never grow up” crap for decades. And the self entitled arrogant little snots your world view produces have given the US the government it now has.
It is a shame you have exchanged virtue for self indulgence.
The Muslims have nothing on you. Peace be with you.
I would very much like you to try and make a go of it big man. It'd be a good way to get your meddling nose broken.
Are you such a wet-nosed ignorant liberal that you would dream of interferring with someone disciplining (with appropriate measure, mind you, NOT BEATING) a toddler, just because maybe you never got your little smart mouth popped? ...Frankly I would hope you're a bit smarter than that.
It's precisely what's wrong with generation X, Y, etc. ...Had anyone ever tried that with the five wonderful and respectful children I raised, they'd be eating corn with no friggin' teeth. ...I promise you that, wise guy.
But I realize it's easy to spout a little bravado when you can hide behind a keyboard and dictate to others how they should raise/discipline their children. Signed "Ranger" Drew
I doubt you could afford to hire a heterosexual man to break my meddling nose for you.
Are you such a wet-nosed ignorant liberal that you would dream of interferring with someone disciplining (with appropriate measure, mind you, NOT BEATING) a toddler
Yes, I am such a wet-nosed ignorant liberal that I would interfere with someone disciplining a toddler by slapping him in the face. Anyone who would slap a child in the face deserves a clock-cleaning, and I would do my level best to supply said clock-cleaning.
Had anyone ever tried that with the five wonderful and respectful children I raised, they'd be eating corn with no friggin' teeth. ...I promise you that, wise guy.
You were allowed to reproduce? Idaho is a more liberal state than I thought. I'm sure your childrens' therapists would agree.
I realize it's easy to spout a little bravado when you can hide behind a keyboard and dictate to others how they should raise/discipline their children.
I'm not hiding. I'll be happy to say the sane thing right in your face. Please feel free to contact me privately to arrange an opportunity for me to educate you.
Whatever, baby-slapper.
I understand your point about people not teaching their children responsibility, and I agree. I just think this is an entirely different situation.
