Dr. Laura Schlessinger announced tonight she is ending her radio show, a week after she broadcast a five-minute-long rant in which she used the N-word 11 times.
Schlessinger said on "Larry King Live" tonight that she has decided "not to do radio anymore" so she can say the things she wants to say.
"The reason is, I want to regain my First Amendment rights," she said. "I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates, attack sponsors. I'm sort of done with that."
She told King she will not renew her contract, which expires at the end of the year. She said she told her bosses 10 minutes before she went on the air.
She was trying to make a philosophical point, she said, but added, "I didn't help her [the caller] by making that point."

I will try not to be niggardly in my praise of Dr. Laura.
I actually like Dr Laura. She kind of reminds me of my mother-in-law. She doesn’t beat around the bush and tells it like she sees it.
Her time has come, so to speak.

She is/was a good voice on the radio... my wife, a moderate Democrat, was a closet fan of hers.
By the way, she didn’t call the caller an N-word, she said roughly that if you watch HBO, you’ll hear other black people calling each other the N-word as a term of endearment...
(Lesson: Don’t use the N-word if you’re not black or sufficiently ghetto.)

Good riddance....had a run-in with that hags producer years ago.
If I remember correctly, she was ranting that blacks on TV, cable and radio use the word all the time.
Someone must have leaned on her hard.
It’s not racist to have a system where one race is allowed certain speech, and others not of that race are punished for using the identical vocabulary?
Where a white president can be depicted as a chimp, but a black president cannot, a decision based solely on race?
The media is run by politically correct liberals who want to end “white privilege” by giving special rights to blacks, gays, muslims and illegals.
This is beyound ridiculous. This is form of passive-agressive tyranny.
A word, that only 12.8% of the population is allowed to use. If any one even says that that is a horrible word and should NOT be used, then they have infact comitted an unforgiveable crime.
Also, throwing away a career because of N-Word-Flap is weak. If you are strong enough to make a point, then you should be strong enough to defend it. Why not fight till the end. Let them throw you off the airwaves. Then sue them and take it to the Supreme Court.
I am assuming Dr. Laura has succeeded financially to the point where she can actually afford to battle. If she is not going to do it then who is? Dr. Laura has what it takes to fight. It is a shame when WHOLE society turns on you, even good people get disheartened and quit.
Finally, by giving up the airways, you surely are NOT regaining your first ammendment rights.
Dr. Laura should punch NAACP and others in the nose and make the point because of you my kids have to learn words that I don’t want them to.
N-word? N-word? What kind of gutless PC world are we living in that we cannot say, think or write the, well I am going to call it the J-word. That is because if you are not a “insert racial slur of your choice here” you go to jail for daring to speak it.
Oh but for the “insert racial slur of your choice here” anything can be said without any fear of arrest.

Not even a little bit. I’m not sayng she never gave anyone good advice, but as far as radio goes, her show was slllooooooww, duuuuulllll, and boooooorrring.
My least favorite line of hers was, “Oh, he’s just looking for someplace warm to stick it”...she was classless trash as far as I am concerned.

I listened to her about twice, ten years ago, because nothing else was on the radio. But I did appreciate her guts. So long, Laura.
