Federal employee salaries are making news around the country. Literally over a hundred articles have appeared in the past few days in news media noting that federal employees now make more than twice as much as the average American. Moreover, the disparity between the average salary of federal employees and the rest of America continues to grow wider each year. According to OPM, "Thirty years ago, over 22% of our workforce was in blue collar jobs. Now that percentage has dropped by half while the percentage of IT and Health professionals has doubled. Data clearly show that many of these highly specialized workers - doctors, nurses, cybersecurity professionals - are paid less than their private sector counterparts and are making a significant sacrifice in pay to serve their neighbors."

I guess this gives “public service” a new meaning. The new meaning has something to do with words like “trough”, “entitled”, “spoiled”, “overpaid” and so forth.
The pay is usually comparable, and the benefits package is usually excessive. We are serfs. The government employees are the rich folks living on the hill. We serve them.
To me it has been evident ever since I have entered the Military in 1985...Federal and State workers seem to increase in number and in their benefits and wages. Almost as if by design. After all, like any welfare recipient they are very much interested in keeping their job and growing their departments and more. That, too, is a form of slavery as they are government workers and not people in a private company seeking to grow a business. When government is the business and the people in and of it want to GROW it...we have a serious problem.
I’m kinda glad I retired earlier this year and now have a private sector job.
And in order to pay those salaries they have to confiscate more and more of the paychecks from the private sector. That just ain’t right!
USA Today reported that federal employees received average pay and benefits of $123,049 in 2009, while private workers made $61,051 in total compensation.
The report also said the federal compensation advantage had grown from $30,415 in 2000 to $62,000 last year.
Yes, $123K - $61K is indeed $62K .................
A good point, Drypowder. Maybe they should focus on politicians’ salaries and benefits instead of federal workers’.
