A 65-year-old man who allegedly set a fire that burned 15 garages in Shoreview told investigators he had been drinking Jack Daniel's whiskey and it makes him "crazy and stupid," the Ramsey County sheriff said.
Sheriff's deputies and Lake Johanna fire officials were called to the 3500 block of Owasso Street about 7 p.m. Wednesday, regarding the fires at an apartment complex. Four of the garages were a total loss and three vehicles were destroyed, the sheriff's office said.
Witnesses said they had seen Charles Stanley Ritter "in the area before the fire and smelled large quantities gas fumes coming from the garage area," according to a sheriff's office news release. "Witnesses also reported seeing Ritter leave the scene at a high rate of speed in a vehicle."
