VINEYARD HAVEN The first family had an answer yesterday to those who said they were perhaps a little too reclusive while on the island.
On the first full day of their Martha's Vineyard vacation, the Obamas were almost Clintonesque, first traveling to a Vineyard Haven bookstore before the president took in a round of golf in the early afternoon, followed by the first appearance of first lady Michelle Obama, who took the girls for ice cream in Oak Bluffs.
At a press conference yesterday, White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton said President Barack Obama has a relatively spontaneous approach to each vacation day, deciding in the morning whether to play basketball, go to the beach or get some ice cream.
By 1:30 p.m., Obama was golfing at the private Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown with his friend Eric Whitaker, White House trip director Marvin Nicholson and U.S. Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C. For a family that wants us all to eat lettuce, they sure eat a lot of ice cream.
Of course they would get upset, anywhere Obama goes the surrounding area goes into lockdown mode, you cannot set off fireworks, fly model planes or go ballooning near where he is.
The flight restrictions alone shut down almost all air traffic. Tourism suffers because first off you cannot get into the area and then if you do you will be monitored, photographed and all your past will be dug up and filed away.
Nobody wants Obama anymore, he brinks ill fortune to the land.
“Do what I say, not what I do.”
