Panel takes up terrorism trials topic at judicial event

KAANAPALI - More than 500 lawyers and judges filled the Monarchy Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa on Tuesday to hear a panel discuss trying terrorists, and the pros and cons of doing it in ordinary civilian courts or before military commissions.

U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema, who has presided over many terrorism trials in the Eastern District of Virginia, said civilian courts - Article III courts in lawyer lingo, after the part of the Constitution that provides for them - have been successful in prosecuting terrorists in hundreds of cases.

A member of the audience asked whether security, intelligence or secrecy considerations might justify setting up a special terrorism review panel similar to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, which reviews secret applications from the Department of Justice to spy on people electronically. "We shouldn't tamper with something that's not broken," Brinkema said.

She was one of four panelists discussing "Trying Alleged Terrorists: Constitutional and Practical Problems in Article III Courts and Military Tribunals" at the annual judicial conference of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court, which has filled the Hyatt with lawyers for four days this week.

...civilian courts - Article III courts in lawyer lingo, after the part of the Constitution that provides for them...

The Constitution "provides for" administrative review boards to adjudicate federal administrative matters.

But since that got a lot of Americans asking these administrators (and that's all they are) why they should be dragged in front of a review board for federal employees, Congress changed their names to "courts" and "judges"... Article III version, hrmph...

Stroke of a pen, presumptive jurisdiction over a third of a billion formerly free people, kinda cool...

I thought they passed a law saying all they have to do is "designate" someone a terrorist -- and, even if they're American citizens they don't have to waste all that time and money on ANY kind of trial -- all they have to do is shoot them.

Ted Olson, the anointed “conservative” by the drive-by media liars argued there is a “right to marry” in the Constitution.

Olson on Fox news, is now arguing there is a “right to build” in the Constitution.

Since Islamic law allows a man to have four wives, will Terd Olson argue they have a “right to marry” as well???

The Second Amendment is illegal in NYC.

These legal hacks like Terd Olson have given us endless, cascading rivers of lies about why an American citizen cannot own a gun in NYC, but now they want to tell me that a foreign enemy has Constitutional rights they would routinely deny a citizen of this country?

Maybe this mosque will perform polygamous gay marriages and Ted Olson is angling for a black burqa judicial appointement from Sodom Hussein Obama...
