Famed American author Ray Bradbury was born August 22, 1920 in Waukegan, Illinois - the birthplace of another great American, Jack Benny.

He has written in several genres including fantasy, horror, mystery, and science fiction.

Among his most famous works are The Martian Chronicles, Fahrenheit 451, The Illustrated Man, Dandelion Wine, Something Wicked This Way Comes, and the screenplay for the 1956 film version of Moby Dick.

I hesitate to post this because I am a huge fan of Mr Bradbury. Read most everything. Totally enjoyed the movies of his works. Something Wicked This Way Comes is my favorite.

In any case there is a viral video making the rounds. It IS NOT SAFE FOR WORK! However I have to admit I found it clever and catchy, although more over the top than the sort of video I would usually watch.

I won't post the title but I'll give a line from the tease.

She worked many of his titles into the video. There may be other more subliminal messages as well however I only watched it a couple of times and probably won't watch it again.

I can't help but wonder if he has seen it, and if so what he thinks of it.

I have never read this, but someone once told me that Ray Bradbury wrote a story in which somehow an analysis of the fourth dimension discloses that homosexuals play an important role in reproduction. Do you know if this is true or if perhaps the person telling me this got the author wrong?

Ray Bradbury was a science fiction writer, but he was not in love with technology. In fact, he was one of the few people who could look ahead at the dehumanizing aspects of technology.

This is a great post... Happy Birthday to my favorite author of all time.... Reading Fahrenheit 451 as a teenager was a profound turning point for me... Although, the book is widely misunderstood, I see it as a cautionary tale of what our great country could devolve to if we continue to go down the road to apathy. We must keep our morals strong and we must keep the government’s feet to the fire!

Fahrenheit 451 was fantastic and i agree with you. Another of my favs made into a movie was The Illustrated Man. Rod Steiger. I’ll never forget him trying to get to sleep in the bayou, going to the edge of the swamp and yelling at EVERYTHING to SHUT UP!<p.
And they DID!

Dandelion Wine was a delightful book, and I really liked Something Wicked This Way Comes, as well.

One of my favorite Bradbury works was a short story—whose name escapes me now. It was about a normal little boy born into a family of immortals (vampires, etc.), and the way that his family cared for him, knowing that he wouldn’t be around for long.

My mother-in-law (in Hollywood) is friends with him. He sends her lots of interesting ramblings in his letters, and draws all over the envelope even. Fun stuff seeing those.

He sure had it right in The Murderer. I think of that story every time my wife has to talk to everyone she knows as we're driving/shopping/eating/whatever. If I didn't want to use my cell phone in emergencies, I'd put it down the disposal. As it is now, I rarely answer the home phone.
