A new college started classes this summer in Berkeley, California.
Zaytuna College's motto is, "Where Islam meets America." It's the first Muslim college in the United States.

The language in this classroom is Arabic. Zaytuna College is offering summer language classes in preparation for its official fall opening. The college emphasizes a rigorous general education in American history, anthropology, philosophy, literature, political science, but a major portion of its required curriculum is devoted to the study of Islam and the Koran.
"We want to manifest Islam in a way that's compatible with America," says Imam Zaid Shakir, who founded Zaytuna and is also a professor.

He says that most teachers of Islam in America come from other countries - like Pakistan, Yemen, Egypt. So, even though there are millions of American Muslims, the religion can seem foreign here. But teachers at Zaytuna, says the imam, will be like him.

Actually I forget which has more mosques. I'm not sure if it New York of California. I know New York has 230 mosques. Come to think of it, I believe it is New York that has a few more mosques than California. So California would be second in the highest number of mosques.
Grove City and Hillsdale Colleges take zero federal money so they can legally educate with Christian motives. I wonder if this islamic college is planning to refuse all federal money in order to continue to mandate religious instruction.

Hillsdlae is a WONDERFUL COLLEGE!
I suspect this Islamic college will get federal funding since many of the post college Islamic schools GET TAX DOLLARS. No kidding. Try getting funding for a Christian school or a Jewish school - suddenly the “separation of church” and state steps in.
There are many Islamic schools, YOU are FUNDING through tax dollars.

Does a radical Muslim have a right to head a New York City public school? The federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission seems to think so.
That panel ruled last week that city officials discriminated against Debbie Almontaser when they forced her out as principal of the taxpayer-funded madrassa she helped found.
Yet the Khalil Gibran International Academy, which is billed as an Arabic-themed public school, was a bad idea from the start — and Almontaser was an even worse choice to lead it.
As The Post reported in 2007, Almontaser served as spokesman for an organization that shared office space with an Arab group that hawked T-shirts bearing the slogan “Intifada NYC” — an apparent reference to the bloody Palestinian terror campaign against Israeli civilians.

Incredibly, Almontaser defended the shirts, claiming that “intifada” was really just an Arabic word for “shaking off.”
Never mind, as The Post also reported, that the group’s co-founders were members of an outfit that advocates the elimination of the Jewish state.
At best, in other words, Almontaser — a self-styled “moderate” — was willfully blind to the reality of Islamic terror and has no business teaching city schoolkids for that reason alone.
More likely, she played the folks at the Education Department for fools.
The city, to its credit, has vowed to appeal the EEOC ruling, which is nonbinding for now.
But it deserves full blame for agreeing to segregate students in such a school in the first place: After all, the purpose of public education has always been, in part, to instill the next generation with a sense of shared citizenship.
