How Fox Betrayed Petraeus
New York Times ^ | August 21st 2010 | Frank Rich

Posted on 08/23/2010 7:12:34 AM PDT by Cardhu

THE “ground zero mosque,” as you may well know by now, is not at ground zero. It’s not a mosque but an Islamic cultural center containing a prayer room. It’s not going to determine President Obama’s political future or the elections of 2010 or 2012. Still, the battle that has broken out over this project in Lower Manhattan — on the “hallowed ground” of a shuttered Burlington Coat Factory store one block from the New York Dolls Gentlemen’s Club — will prove eventful all the same. And the consequences will be far more profound than any midterm election results or any of the grand debates now raging 24/7 over the parameters of tolerance, religious freedom, and the real estate gospel of location, location, location.

Here’s what’s been lost in all the screaming. The prime movers in the campaign against the “ground zero mosque” just happen to be among the last cheerleaders for America’s nine-year war in Afghanistan. The wrecking ball they’re wielding is not merely pounding Park51, as the project is known, but is demolishing America’s already frail support for that war, which is dedicated to nation-building in a nation whose most conspicuous asset besides opium is actual mosques.

So virulent is the Islamophobic hysteria of the neocon and Fox News right — abetted by the useful idiocy of the Anti-Defamation League, Harry Reid and other cowed Democrats — that it has also rendered Gen. David Petraeus’s last-ditch counterinsurgency strategy for fighting the war inoperative. How do you win Muslim hearts and minds in Kandahar when you are calling Muslims every filthy name in the book in New York?

You’d think that American hawks invested in the Afghanistan “surge” would not act against their own professed interests. But they couldn’t stop themselves from placing cynical domestic politics over country.

Misogynism in the name of religion doesn't fly here

You can “spot the looney” like Frank Rich because they have the freedom
to out themselves in public.

This is what really galls him.

the elections of 2010 or 2012.

I hope Frank Rich keeps this up.
And that it will lead to a repeat of what happened on election day
in 1994.
(a debacle for the Democrats)

I mistakenly flipped to “Morning Joe” this morning to hear Joe Scarborough say something like “Frank Rich got this perfectly on the mark...” That’s all you need to hear to know that Frank Rich has once again authored a “hate America” and “blame the conservatives” piece that will be wildly popular in the MSM and lefty blogosphere.

At the very least, the name, Cordoba House, must be changed.

But Zero likes the name Cordoba. He cited it during his infamous "Cairo Speech."

"Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance. We see it in the history of Andalusia and Cordoba during the Inquisition."

‘At the very least, the name, Cordoba House, must be changed.’

It was. It is now the ‘Park 51 Project’.

Rich won't understand the Islamists until he's shared Daniel Pearl's fate. He's willing to work with any of them as long as they mouth the shibboleths of Liberalism's PC claptrap, rope-a-dope rhetoric.

He's also willing to ignore that the Imam running this scam is an Hamas supporter and that Hamas supports the Mosque along with Rich. 100 Mosques are in NYC. They don't need a new $100 million one near the site of the mass murders these Islamists barbarians perpetrated. Also, where is the money coming from for this structure? Why don't the Saudis send that money to help the Pakistanis who are flood victims? Why do infidels always have to bail out the suffering Muslims?

the Pope he would be upset. Just when he is witch hunting the nuns and playing Sgt Schultz to the bad boys.

Many of the nuns from "mainstream" orders being investigated really are witches. Just ask them. I work with some.

The homosexual "bad boys" have have been trying to get revenge on the Pope for kicking their tails when he was head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The homos were obsessed with Cardinal Ratzinger; I was there when hundreds of them tried to silence his speech in NYC in 1987.

Socialist agitators are so evil, the Reichstag Fire is pretty much their only move: Blame your enemies for what you yourself did—in this case, sodomy and covering up sodomy. The Lefty press is trying to blame the Pope for the predatory sodomy their own Lefty-priest friends were able to get away with under the protection of Lefty bishops. Those were the peacenik, swishy, politician-kissing, abortion-tolerating bishops the press was always praising for daringly defying the Vatican. These were the same bishops Cardinal Ratzinger ousted for corruption and for protecting sexual predators.

The whole thing reminds you of homosexuals blaming the normal world for the spread of AIDS. I think there's a line in Proverbs about how much vice hates virtue.

Yep. If this is a community center meant for ‘outreach,’ by all means, Christians, Jews, Buddhists and atheists must be welcomed. And, they should be welcomed in their bikinis if that’s what they choose to wear. Maybe a tailgate party outside.

Can you imagine the mental contortions Rich and his fellow travelers have to go through to come to their positions? Has to be exhausting.

This is the new "mantra" of the Left--blame "haters" for the oppposition to the Ground Zero Mosque. And--because Fox dares to have people who question the wisdom of building a center for the propagandization (how's that for a new word?) of radical Islam--they MUST be haters. Right?

Watch for this new mantra to become as oft-repeated in the MSM as the "Cheney gives gravitas" mantra was when GWB announced his candidacy for president. Never mind that the Muslim version of "love thy neighbor as thyself" is to reach out to that neighbor with one hand beckoning him to worship Allah, and the other on a detonator of a bomb carefully designed to blow him to smithereens if he is too foolish to accept the "invitation"!

“560 feet [away] “

Good point — and how far away is this spot from the debris which fell out from the Towers?

I would assume that it was in the footprint of the destruction.

Unfortunately for Frank Rich, conservatives can read. We can see how he claims: "It’s not a mosque but an statement is linked to another NY Times page, one that provides details on the proposal.

Yes, unfortunately Mr. Rich, some of us know how dishonest he can be, so we check that page--and find that it states: "The tower of as many as 15 stories will house a mosque, a 500-seat auditorium, and a pool. Its leaders say it will be modeled on the Y.M.C.A. and Jewish Community Center in Manhattan."

Poor dishonest little Rich boy.
