MoveOn Target

Politics: Retailer Target found itself in the bull's-eye of a boycott over its donation to a pro-business group that MoveOn.org claims is anti-gay. Target said sorry, but

MoveOn won't stop. So what's the real agenda here?

Already something smells funny with the leftist radicals of MoveOn.org. The group, which claims to be member-run and grass roots, seems to have full-blown rebellion on its hands over its nonstop boycott of and harassment campaign against Target Corp.

Last month, the Minneapolis-based retailing giant donated $100,000 to a pro-business group called MN Forward. MN Forward in turn donated some of its cash to Republican candidate Tom Emmer, who's running for governor of Minnesota on a pro-business platform.

Given that Target is headquartered in Minneapolis and presumably would like to keep it that way, the donation seemed logical. But not to MoveOn.org, the radical group that first got its name in 2007, when it ran a slanderous ad in the New York Times against Gen. David Petraeus.

It announced a national boycott of Target, claiming the company was anti-gay because Emmer opposed gay marriage. To make things nuttier, the group claimed that the donation, ruled perfectly legal by the Supreme Court in January, "subverts our democracy."

Target, which has supported "progressive" causes to a fault in the past, apologized long ago to MoveOn.org and said it would review its donations more closely in the future. But that only made MoveOn.org nuttier.

It organized unkempt protestors to dance around as "flash mobs" on an Internet film clip, on the premises of Target stores, vandalizing merchandise and disgusting anyone who saw it. It also spent $35,000 on an anti-Target ad that was so extreme, even the left-leaning MSNBC refused to run it.

That settles it for me. Wal-Mart is going to have to get along without me for a while. For the indefinite future, TARGET gets my business for anything I need that I can possibly purchase there.

Wal Mart is closer to me, but if I am in the area where our Target is, I will definitely shop there

Target and other merchants and companies that typically donate to "causes" should consider quitting that and donating to unemployed workers families in their locations. Giving to those who truly NEED the funds for survival makes a lot more sense and warrants community support for their being sensitive to the economic times we are experiencing. Giving to ungrateful "causes" that picket and protest against them is a waste of effort when their donation is unappreciated unless it is served on a silver platter. THAT turns off the people who shop at Target and elsewhere.

There is a lot more here than meets the eye, folks. These are all leftist “money management” companies. Check them out.

From the AP.....
Walden Asset Management and Trillium Asset Management Corp., both of Boston, and Bethesda, Md.-based Calvert Asset Management Co. filed shareholder resolutions with both companies. Together, the three firms control less than 1 percent of each company’s outstanding shares - 1.1 million Target shares worth $57.5 million and 344,000 Best Buy shares worth $11.3 million - but they are moving the debate over the political giving to a new arena.

I wonder if MoveOn.org will care when Target moves its corporate headquarters out of the state if Dayton or the other lib wins?

“MoveOn.org, the radical group that first got its name in 2007, when it ran a slanderous ad in the New York Times against Gen. David Petraeus.”

This is true but they started back in 1998 when Wee Willy Clinton had sex in the Oval Office with Monica. That’s why they are called “MoveOn” because it was only sex.

Why does this remind me so much of Jesse Jackson and the Texaco shakedown?

And why aren’t the MoveOn punks prosecuted for harassment?

Just axin’.

In reality, they're trying to use Target to set an example to shut down the direct political donations that became possible with the recent SCOTUS ruling.

TPTB in the Dem Party know that if corporate America engages as they are now permitted to under the ruling, the advantage that the Lib special interests/activist groups (particularly the unions) give them when it comes to $$$ is going to be blown out of the friggin' water.

Fact is that MoveOn doesn't seem to really be a "member run" organization. It seems to take its marching orders from the Dem Party - and bludgeoning corporations into political silence using tactics like this is going to be a critical factor to survival in the coming elections.

Suit yourself but when Target (and Best Buy) booted the Salvation Army bell ringers from their doorways I jettisoned 'em.

Interestingly, when that happened, Walmart not only permitted the bell ringers to continue, they even put a big SA logo on the home page of their website and a button to donate.

I shop Walmart first and only go to Target and Best Buy when there's nowhere else to shop. Amazon has such great prices and selection I almost never have to shop beyond Wally World and Sam's.

Over the weekend I was at Saratoga for the races. After the races right outside the Main Gate there was a small (12 people ?) mob with a bullhorn and a few signs including a large MOVEON.org sign. They were chanting some nonsense like “Stop Boehner” and “Save Social Security”. I believe one chant was “Save President Obama”. Everyone from the track walked right by them as if they weren’t there. I think they picked the wrong crowd.
