Huckabee: Don't Punish Children of Illegal Immigrants (RINO ALERT) (Huckster for DREAM Act?)
CBS News - Political Hotsheet ^ | 2010-08-16 | Stephanie Condon

Posted on 08/23/2010 8:57:20 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

Former GOP presidential contender and potential 2012 candidate Mike Huckabee said Wednesday that he does not support a repeal of the 14th Amendment -- a part of the Constitution other Republican leaders have called into question recently because it guarantees citizenship for children born in the United States, regardless of their parents' immigration status.

Huckabee said in an interview Wednesday that he does not support a repeal, NPR reports.

While the former Arkansas governor said, "I'm not for an amnesty program," he added, "You do not punish a child for something the parent did."

(snip)

Huckabee told NPR that the nation is better off giving all children opportunities to succeed as citizens, even if they were not born in the United States.

"The question is: Is [an undocumented child born outside of the U.S.] better off going to college and becoming a neurosurgeon or a banker or whatever he might become, and becoming a taxpayer, and in the process having to apply for and achieve citizenship, or should we make him pick tomatoes?" Huckabee said. "I think it's better if he goes to college and becomes a citizen."

What? Some folks don’t remember that Huckabee was more or less McCain lite? Huckabee is a kind of likable guy — on a FoxNews talk show on a Saturday night. Other than that — no thank you. RINO. DOES NOT BELONG in office.

Huckabee is liberal on everything but abortion and guns. He is incredibly dangerous to conservatism to the extent that he is able to deceive.

“I’m not for an amnesty program,” he added, “You do not punish a child for something the parent did.”

Whatever Huckster. How bout we just not award them with citizenship. Especially when their parent/s have knowingly illegally crossed our border?

I think we all know for whom, and why the 14th amendment was necessary at the time. So now, some 150 years later we find ourselves in dire need of remedy. This is precisely why we our Constitution provides for amendments. It can and should be done. But it will take pols not on the prowl for illegal immigrant votes, to get the process jump started.

Is Huckabee actually saying that he thinks it is punishment for a child to be born anywhere other than in the United States?

Otherwise, what is the punishment for a child to return with his mother who dashed over the border within days prior to giving birth?

I like calling him Suckabee. He is a liberal. I cringe when I hear him mentioned as a serious candidate for 2012 because after McCain got nominated last time, I kind of believe it could happen.

How can not giving them a free ride be considered as “punishing” them? I don’t get it. Of course, my mind doesn’t work like that of a dumbass politician or a pothead.

I don't believe he has thought it through. He seems to be saying it is a punishment for any child to be born outside of the United States, and that it is our obligation to do something about it in each and every case, regardless of the cost.

I have never been a fan.

I seem to recall a substantial number of people defending this guy as far back as the 2008 election, and while I appreciate that he’s pro-life, I’ve never been able to understand the appeal. I don’t have to like or vote for someone to understand why someone else would, and I just can’t see what anyone likes about this guy. It appears he has no fans here, at least none admitting to wanting him to run for president again, so I guess I’m not going to get any answers from them.

I just find him unappealing, uninteresting, and just another ‘centrist’ who the current RNC probably likes, since he sure seems to want to ‘get along.’

It isn’t punishment. The parents aren’t citizens, and if the law was remotely serving the best interest of US citizens, the parents could never become citizens after entering the US illegally. The children would simple be citizens of the country or countries of their parents. No punishment to it. I bet most of the countries illegals are coming from have similar laws governing who can and who can’t be citizens. It’s called borders and sovereignty. If you think your nation is something more than worthless, you have a few standards regarding who can belong to it.

I confess I sorta like the guy. But not as a politician. Rather, as an entertainer. He seems cordial and sincere enough as a human being. But when it comes to his politics, like you, I cringe at the prospect. He is definitely not the sorta fellow we need at the helm.

If the GOP thinks they can deliver Romney or Huck, they best think twice. I figure they have one last chance to get this right.

Huckabee is a soft-headed open borders fool.

Worth remembering, but it’s not new for him.

Mr. Huckabee, I like you personally, I understand your heart for children, but FACE UP! The whole world just cannot come to the USA.

Stop translating this as “punishing children”, Mr. Huckabee, unless you admit openly that illegal immigration—uncontrolled immigration is going to PUNISH OUR CHILDREN with the huge debt to take care of all of these people.

Stand outside of the embassies and consulates of the USA in foreign countries, as we have done on very many occasions, in four Asian countries, and behold the lines BLOCKS LONG at times of people all trying to enter the USA.

SIR!! LOOK!! THE WHOLE WORLD CANNOT COME TO AMERICA, the words on the Statue of Liberty notwithstanding, without absolutely wrecking our country and our way of life.

This path of unrestricted immigration we are headed down will turn America into a pauper nation that will be unable to continue its exercise of benevolence because it will be stripped of its wealth.

The current generation of immigrants has very little similarity to that of the turn of the twentieth century when there were no welfare programs, no social security, no handouts, and immigrants knew when they came that they had to put out, contribute, take care of their own ENTIRELY! This made Americans out of those dear people.

The current generation is coming from nations affected by communism and have been raised to believe government should take care of them when they fail. Further, that is the model being promoted by modern American administrations.

The current generation of immigrants are seeing the advertisements for government aid posted right on the walls of our own embassies and consulates abroad, sponsored by our own socialist-ridden State Department! They are trained to think that being on the dole is normal and natural.

MR. HUCKABEE! THE WHOLE WORLD JUST CANNOT COME TO AMERICA!
