PHOENIX, Arizona (AFP) Senator John McCain appears set to romp home in Arizona's Republican primary, but only after tacking right and spending millions of dollars to counter a threat from a former conservative radio show host.
Voters also head to the polls Tuesday for primary elections in Florida, Vermont and Alaska and results are being closely watched as a litmus test of the anti-incumbent mood in the run up to mid-term elections in November.
Results such as Arizona may predict whether insurgent candidates, especially Republicans backed by staunchly anti-government Tea Party groups, will continue to make advances over those with more moderate views.

but...but....weren’t people told he was a Tea Party kind of guy?
Palin was the idiot wrapping McCain in the Tea Party mantle.
She didn’t and the Tea Parties of Arizona held a joint news conference to dispell any notion that they were supportive of him. It must have been a phony tea party group his supporters formed that the press is referring to. If it does exist, bets are that they will disband tomorrow.
Yes, she did.
"So [McCain] is part of the Tea Party movement."

Yippie .... Mr Maverick can go back to DC and get back to being all Mavericky /S
I stand corrected. That one appearance really stuck me badly after he dissed her on the stage after the election.
oh no, another palin bathwater drinker. Does the tea party candidate have a snowballs chance at beating mccain or the democrat? who was thinking Hayworth was a good answer to beat mccain?
Vermont GOP primaries are a hoot.

Oie Vey! Sorry dude, it wasn’t me who crapped in your corn flakes this morning.
You people want McCain to win so bad you can’t think straight.
“Please let McCain win so we can blame it on Palin.”
“Please let McCain win so we can blame it on Palin.”
“Please let McCain win so we can blame it on Palin.”
“Please let McCain win so we can blame it on Palin.”
You’re phonies and cowards, exactly like McCain.
I don’t blame Palin if McCain wins. I blame the voters.
You see, you are so blinded by hate for those that don’t agree with you.
You always project what you believe others are thinking. You are wrong to do that. Honestly, get a grip.
Palin did make those remarks about McCain. You can’t refute that.
So live with it.
I like J.D. and would have voted for him---saw that my mother did---but MANY conservatives disliked his association with Abramoff and didn't trust him. Right or wrong, he had somehwat come off as an "insider" himself. He was never totally a "Tea Party" kind of guy---only the best alternative to McQueeg.
Second, McCain did is typical, but effective, 180-degree flip, looking like he was tough on borders, tough on spending, all the usual faux conservative crap that gets him 10% more voters.
Third, there was the Palin endorsement. That's just enough to convince some on our side that he's ok.
Fourth, McCain's ads on Hayworth's "corruption" were devastating.
Republicans implode!
Yeah, November will SAVE THE COUNTRY!
My *ss!
I’m one election away from washing my hands of all of it.
If Americans are now this stupid, then they deserve what they will undoubtedly get.
Unbelievable!
Guilty by association there rabs? You're such a one trick pony. Didn't you complain about this very thing when turned on you? Why yes, yes you did...
Care to find the post where I said that the U.S. government perpetrated the 9/11 attacks (i.e., the "Truther" conspiracy)? Or am I just guilty by association?

You sure live by a double standard. Blame Palin for McCain (oh please, let's not blame that great opponent..JD. Yes, he ran an awesome campaign! /s)) yet you ignore others like Hunter endorsing the open borders/pro anchor baby loving Huckster.
Get over it, rabs. We all hate McCain but quit laying all the blame on Palin. Your friends have posted contrary articles saying her endorsements aren't even winning.

What guilt by association? Palin went on live television in March 2010 to proclaim that McCain is part of the Tea Party movement!
"So [McCain] is part of the Tea Party movement."

I agree with every point you just made.
Just this morning the topic of the McCain transformation at election time has been discussed.
In the end, people will get exactly what they voted for.
After the elections in November, I am quite sure we will get the book from Megan McCain dissing those who supported good old Johnny.
In my book, most of the incumbents who never leave have no business talking corruption. McCain isn’t all that clean either.
After all that has happened, if Palin is the Republican candidate, my family and I are staying home on election day.
I want no part of this destruction.
Pretty narrow thinking.
