McCain turns vulnerable label into front-runner

GILBERT, Ariz. — The cast of "Survivor" has nothing on Sen. John McCain.

Once labeled a vulnerable incumbent, the four-term Arizona Republican is the clear front-runner against challenger J.D. Hayworth after spending some $20 million and casting his GOP opponent as a late-night infomercial huckster in a series of devastating ads. The primary is Tuesday.

McCain, who turns 74 on Aug. 29, has survived the deadly 1967 explosion on the USS Forrestal, 5 1/2 years in a Vietnam POW camp after being shot down near Hanoi and skin cancer. Politically, he has persisted through the Keating Five savings and loan scandal, and two failed bids for the White House.

I think it's horrible that McCain has harsher words for Conservatives than he does for "his good friend Barack Obama", "his special friend John Kerry", "His really really 'close' friend Bawney Fwank". I knew the 2008 election was over when he assured American voters that Barack Obama would make a good President....IN THE MIDDLE OF HIS CAMPAIGN!

Just wish he had as kind words for Conservatives. I predict that, should the GOP win a slim majority in the Senate this fall, McCain changes parties to make himself kingmaker.

I don’t get how the people of AZ can support their laws AND support McCain.

Any Arizonans who think McCain is going to be a conservative after he defeats JD are going to be surprised shortly after the election

He will drift left as the needs of the race dictate. And when back home in Washington DC, he’ll be the back in his role as one of America’s liberal rulers.

It’s disgusting, but that’s who he is.

This just goes to show how important it is to have a good challenger. McCain labeled Hayworth a second rate clown and, quite frankly, the label had some truth to it and stuck. Arizona voters, who are reliable conservatives, would rather have a backstabbing “maverick” than a clown representing them in the Senate.

Well, this is probably McCain’s last term - he’ll be free to do as much damage as he can - with no consequences to pay. GOD save our country!

I don’t live in Arizona, so I don’t know what type of ads each candidate was putting out there. But if I were Hayworth, I would have been airing McCain saying “Obama would be a fine president”, over and over again. Did he?

Also, did he ask the voters why anybody would spend 21 million dollars for a job paying a little over $100,000?

How can Arizona voters be so stupid?

The msm is having conniption fits that McC moved to the right.

He’s not their maverick anymore......wwwwwwwwaaaaahhhhhhhhh

They loved him when he spoke against President Bush.

Now he’s speaking against President Obamao and they’re furious at him. Look for the msm to work against him in the general election in November.

There is bitter irony is McC gaining so much traction by moving to the right.

He must know that if he had done so during the presidential election he might have been president.

I’m praying for a surprise upset. It’s not just Arizona’s problem, they’re foisting this SOB on the whole country.

I’ll go to my grave believing that McCain purposely threw that election.

AZ voters - PLEASE wake up, get up off your couch, go vote JD, get your neighbors, your family, your friends ALL out today to vote out McCain. Only you can get rid of him. Use JD as a stepping stone to get McCain into retirement. Juan McPain will turn sharp left, as soon as the polls close.

Call and e-mail ANYONE you know in AZ to get them out to vote today. It’s not too late. Just DO IT ! Please, for the rest of us in this great nation.

McC morphed into a wannabe uniter.

He never counted on his friends in the msm to slash him at every turn.

Yes I know. We have McCain to thank for McCain-Feingold and the Gang of Fourteen judicial compromise, among many other instances where he ‘crossed the aisle’. Believe me, I’d love to say goodbye to his senatorial career. If the people in Arizona can’t see it however, what can we do?

I will too! I’m totally disgusted with the way McJuan ran this campaign. A constant, 20 million dollar clubbing of J.D. Hayworth. Who says Americans don’t love a good smear and mudslinging campaign. Arizonans just got 20 million dollars worth and if we’re to believe the polls, the mudslinger is about to be sent back to the District of Corruption. The state run “media” is going to be celebrating tonight as they watch their beloved “maverick” pull it out. The “throw the bums out” thing was nothing more than some hot air. I’m disgusted.

Dear AZ,

You have done many courageous things in your history, the most recent of which was to enact, pass and enforce SB1070.

Please do one more courageous thing today. Please retire John McCain. He is bad for conservatives, bad for America, and bad for AZ. We need REAL conservatives in the Senate, NOT faux conservatives like McCain who are only conservative during election season.

Please, retire the man.
