Martin Short's wife, Nancy Dolman, has died at the age of 58. The pair had been married for 30 years.

News of Dolman's passing sent Web searches soaring for her biography, photos, and cause of death. E! Online reports that Dolman had been battling cancer for three years. RadarOnline.com reports that "there will be no funeral service for the actor's wife per her own wishes."

Short and Dolman met while working together on a Canadian production of the musical "Godspell" in the 1970s. A blog dedicated to the musical's production hosts Dolman's original biography from the program.

According to The Toronto Star, that Canadian production had quite the cast. In addition to Short and Dolman, the cast included the late Gilda Radner, Eugene Levy, and Victor Garber, most famous for his work on "Alias." And that's not all: The musical director was none other than Paul Shaffer of "Late Show With David Letterman" fame.

You don’t see Hollywood marriages last that long very often.

Prayers for the family.

Well that sucks I like his work my she rest in peace

Reminds me of a little saying, joke if you will

First guy says, ‘My wife’s an angel!’
Second guy remarks, ‘You’re lucky, mine’s still alive.’

People who don’t want funerals are selfish. The funerals are for the living, not for the one already gone.

>>People who don’t want funerals are selfish. <<

What if the family doesn’t want one either?
We had a mass said for my parents who told us not to waste our money on a viewing.

Prayers for Martin and his family.

I've had the opportunity four times to do a period funeral reenactment - early 19th century. My sermons (researched by my wife) began with words such as "Welcome friends, my business tonight is not so much with the dead as the living."

That being said I respect the lady's wishes and offer prayers for the family.

Very Sad.

Martin Short is very annoying, well his usual shtick is annoying, yet I can tolerate Gilbert Gottfried... makes no sense.

Sad news. 58 is way too young.

I plan on doing the exact same thing. I don't think it's got anything to do with being selfish. I loathe funerals.

To each his own.

You're right. It makes no sense.

Martin Short is a genius compared to Gilbert Gottfried, and a lot less annoying, at least for me.

Unlike Gilbert Gottfried, Martin Short does more than one character.

The problem may be that comedy sketches tend to go on too long and wear out their welcome.

my husband died 2 year ago. He specifically told us not to have a funeral, he did not want to be the center of attention even in death.

Having his ashes here in the computer room is more comfort to me than having him in the ground.

We are all different.

Blessings, etabeta

You wrote:

Right, so have a funeral - so those who want to say goodbye to you can do so. Those who don’t want to say goodbye can just stay home. You won’t mind. You’ll be dead in any case.

I’m just saying...

Always liked Martin Short, I saw him recently in the final season of “Damages” as the crooked lawyer and he was outstanding, really terrific actor. So sorry for him and his family, I remember his wife when she was a working actress.
By the way he and rest of the group that did SCTV were the funniest, better thab Saturday Night Live at times.

Sad for the family. A 30-year marriage among the show business community is to be honored.

Yes, Martin Short is annoying. However, in “Father of the Bride,” he was one of the funniest characters I have ever seen.

What an insensitive remark. Who are you to decide what is best for any family making this decision?
