(TPM)- After ostensibly dissing his son and politicians like him who oppose the Cordoba House project in Manhattan over the weekend, Ron Paul took to the airwaves to defend Rand Pauls view on the project while also making it clear he disagrees with it.
To recap: Rand, like many politicians running in tight races this year, is opposed to building the Muslim community center, and has further called on American Muslims to donate the money that would be spent on building the community center to 9/11 victims families as a show of reconcilliation. In a blog post over the weekend, Ron Paul ripped into views like that, claiming that any opposition to the project was all about hate and Islamaphobia.
In a pair of CNN interviews last night and this morning, Ron stuck to his guns about the community center project opposition is nothing but a political game being ginned up by bigots. He even went so far as to say he and Rand are on different sides of the issue. But he said Rands opposition to the project did not suggest hes bigoted toward Muslims.
I dont put everybody whos a candidate in that same category youll have to ask him for his reasons, Ron Paul said on Anderson Cooper 360 last night. But, no, everybody whos opposing [the Cordoba House] doesnt even understand foreign policy or why were in Afghanistan and Iraq.
They dont have the understanding and they dont make the connection. My goal is to make the connection for people to understand why Al Qaeda has become so militant and hateful towards us and why painting Islam with a broad brush makes our problems worse because were not zeroing down on the real cause and those who perpetuated 9/11.

Hey Ron, tell that to the 3000+ killed in the 911 attack by Islamofasist terrorists...
Not true ... I am a Paulophobe ...
Ron, we just don’t like religious zealots attacking our country, murdering 1000s, and then building a victory mosque to plan the next attack.
Do you not understand the part about providing for the national defense?
I’m not afraid of any of them. So, you are an idiot Paul.
I fear Islamists in the same way I fear rattlesnakes.
Only thing is, Islamists are much worse than rattlesnakes. The rattler doesn’t purposefully set out to subjugate you or kill you and yours based on some misguided ideology. If it bites you it was almost certainly in self-defense.
Every time I see that guy’s name the “The Looney tunes theme song” plays in my head.
It is no shame in being an Islamophobic; No more than a Natizphobic; Nor a Satanphobic; Nor a Anti-Christphobic.
Like some has well stated: “All I need to know about that peaceful religion of Islam is 9/11/01)
Being called silly schoolyard names isn’t too high a price to pay if we can stop these murdering theocrats from gaining a foothold in our Republic.
I’m not afraid of Muslims, I just hate them.
And still — many here on FR swear by this fool.
“Fools rush in
Where wise men never go.”
Foot, mouth, meet Ron Paul.
What’s the problem? I’ll admit to being islamophobic.
When it comes to foreign policy Ron Paul is an idiot, which is why I’d never vote for him for President. Maybe his son Rand wouldn’t vote for him either.
However, Ron Paul is a Republican, and his domestic policy instincts are very good.
I really appreciate the way Ron has clarified who he is.
It has made things easier for all of us.
He has taken moron to a new level.
