Ken Mehlman, who was President George W. Bush's campaign manager in 2004, has come out as gay - and wants to be an advocate for gay marriage.
Mehlman, also a former Republican National Committee chairman, told the Atlantic magazine "It's taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life."
He said friends, family and colleagues "have been wonderfully supportive."
When rumors of Mehlman's sexual orientation circulated years ago, he told several reporters that they were false.
Mehlman and his aides went to considerable lengths to conceal his sexual identity, arranging "dates" with women and photos of him dancing in heterosexual situations.
While he was a top GOP operative, the Republican Party was actively pushing anti-gay marriage initiatives. Mehlman acknowledged that if not for his secret, he might have been a voice for a more conciliatory approach to gays, according to the interview on the Atlantic's website.
"It's a legitimate question and one I understand," Mehlman said. Now, he said, he will openly back gay marriage as consistent with such GOP principles as "individual freedom."
Give me a break! He expects us to believe that he was engaging in sodomy with other men for DECADES because he found it uncomfortable? This guy is as dishonest as they come.
So when is the book coming out?
Another useful idiot emerges. He will be used by the left to promote their agenda.
Lindsey, you’re next.
Another glass-door closet.
lol...No surprise here.
It was a queer federal judge appointed by Bush, that attempted to derail the California queer marriage ban.
2 Kool 2 Be 4-Gotten announces that he’s heterosexual - after all these years I’ve finally decided to announce this to the world. Thank you.
If he didn’t think his sexuality was a reason to change the laws and the culture, no one would mind.
Gee wiz, Ken, did you have to lie about it?
I’m curious what prompted Mehlman to suddenly make a big public announcement about his bedroom lifestyle. Has he suddenly become ill and wants to make amends for degenerate behavioral choices, is a young male trick about to sue him? There is no doubt something that forced this revelation and will emerge sooner or later.
Well, as soon as he can explain how two people of the same sex can join together as husband and wife, he'll have a good argument.
And while we are making annoucements that nobody cares about - I had a pedicure today.
Right...why would he want to make this public with such fanfare? Makes no sense.
I don't know if Lindsey is gay or not but I'd bet that his bf is
Cool - I ate a piece of cake for desert at a restaurant earlier.
Will we get invitations to the Graham/Melham wedding?
Which one wears white?
I knew it - I just knew it.
We need to purge these mentally ill people from the party.
Great. Just wait until Joseph Farah gets hold of this [pun intended].
"Uncomfortable" ~ means ~ well, it means something I suppose, but these guys are into each other's pants, and elsewhere, so there's something there other than "uncomfortable" for them.
Anyone know if this guy was involved in the White House staff during the Nixon years? Lots of folks noticed the gay blades here and there that had some deal going ~ I've thought maybe Bryce Harlow was their "master" ~ a number of his proteges were definitely on the lowdown.
Joseph Farah: “Meanwhile, the oldest and most prestigious ‘conservative’ weekly in the nation is owned by a corporation run by an activist homosexual.”
i doan care ‘bout no gay man-GIMME mah’lobstah right now!!
This is news?
I wonder if Chuckles Schumer and Anthony Weiner will ever have the courage to admit their perversion?
The left does not want him. The left is severely disgusted at how he worked with Rove to get 40+ Marriage bans in 2004 and 2006.
The left wants to make sure he lives a celibate life.
Wow. Is every establishment Republican a homosexual, or does it just seem that way? Gay Old Party, in deed.
Anyway, I think I need to go watch an Electric Six video. Cue the Lincoln dancers on the stripper poles.
Bill Lockyer? Don Perata?
ewwwwwwwwwww lol :)
He was a complete failure as RNC chair. GOP lost both houses of congress during his tenure.
To call him a "weak spokesman" would be an understatement.
Yeah, I was always on those Bad Teacher threads - that was probably a dead giveaway right there!
and what weekly and person is that?
“It seems the queers have infiltrated the Republican establishment to the highest levels.”
Joe Farah has been writing about it all last week at WND. He is one of the few to call these freaks out about their agenda. It’s the same thing every time - the camel’s nose under the tent. They weasel their way in and poof, next thing you know they are pushing for homosexual ‘marriage’ and open homosexuality mandated in the armed forces. Sick people, but you have to give them credit for their devious ways of working their bizarre sexual agenda into the highest political quarters. Evil people seem to always end up on top in the political world.
He was probably a democrat mole.
ugggghhh, where's my eyewash...
More evidence of the moral ROT at the very heart of the Parties — both Democrat AND Republican — in our corrupt government system. If this nation is to survive, this kind of moral and ethical filth will have to be purged from leadership, and honesty and integrity as well as dedication to the Founders original intent for the Constitution will have to be restored. Otherwise, our nation will never survive intact.
That’s just wrong.
So far, my life has been fine without giving even a one second thought to him. He will be delegated to the trash bin of people that I couldn't care less about!!
Uhhhh, no Mr. Mehlman, it is NOT consistent with Republican Principles. In fact it lack principle completely.
THIS is exactly why LCR, ans GOProud should not be pandered to. While they are free to support any party they choose, like everyone else in America, they are not welcome to drag the whole party down to the sewer with them. If they do, the entire country will lose.
Yeah, probably. But you would have looked anyway.
Wouldn’t that be wonderful. Even better would be to purge these people with the worst judgment possible in their own lives, from govt., and keep them from using that poor judgment to rule OUR lives. I do not trust someone with poor judgment to make decisions on laws that effect the rest of us.
