Lawmakers Want To Know How Much CSU Stanislaus Is Paying For Sarah Palin Visit
SACRAMENTO - The California State University Foundation has released its contract with former Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin that shows the speaker's request as well as compensation for a fundraiser dinner conducted in June.
According to the contract released Thursday afternoon, Palin was compensated $75,000 to appear at the event and requested two bottles of "unopened still water" with "bendable straws" placed "in or near the wooden lectern." A private plane, more specifically a Lear 60 jet, was required for Palin under the contract, though the contract allowed for CSU Stanislaus to instead fly Palin and another person first-class on a commercial aircraft between Anchorage and Turlock.
Palin said during her fundraiser event that the "lamestream" media erroneously reported her requests in exchange for the speaking engagement, which included the straws and the water.
The contract also stated media would be permitted to cover Palin's speaking engagement and would be allowed to videotape the first three minutes of her speech. FOX40 was the only station permitted to broadcast Palin's entire speech from an auxiliary room with newspaper reporters, though the contract did not specifically allow for this provision.
Palin's hotel accomodations were made at the Doubletree Hotel in Modesto, according to the contract.
According to a press release issued by the school last month, the university brought in $473,000 from Palin's appearance, with $207,000 in net proceeds.
Senator Leland Yee led a fact-finding mission to uncover how much the school was spending on Palin's appearance and whether or not the money from that payment was coming from public funds.
The controversy came to a peak when a CSU Stanislaus student, now credited as a whistleblower, found shredded documents related to Palin's appearance after the school refused to disclose how much the university was spending on her appearance.
The documents were found shredded inside a dumpster adjacent to the school's administrative building 48 hours after Senator Leland Yee questioned how much the school was spending to bring the former Alaskan Governor to the school for a fundraiser.
Among the shredded documents included the contract between the school and Palin. According to Yee, the documents reveal clues that the school spent nearly $100,000 in travel, meal, accommodations and other expenses for Palin's visit.
According to a document released last month, CSU Stanislaus spent $75,000 in guest speaker fees relating to Sarah Palin's appearance and more than $30,000 in payment to the Modesto and Turlock police departments for security the night of the event. An additional $42,000 was spent in event decorations, $30,000 was spent to cater the event and $80,000 was spent printing programs and contributing to other entertainment-related expenses.
I don’t get it...most of this was already news months ago...nothing to see here
I want to know what she has against straws that don’t bend..she is a straw that doesn’t bend hater LOL
Shocking!!! The school MADE MONEY on the event? How, how, CAPITALISTIC!!!! Is there no shame?
I have an inside source close to Palin that claims Palin also requests Splenda with her iced tea.
Maniacal.
She showed up many more times and the students might get an idea that they too could earn money and make a profit. Try keeping them in the collective after that!
Where in the heck has Fox40 been, this is really old news?
Sounds like they got a real bargain. Wish I could make those sort of returns :).
It is? Someone else said that, too. Didn’t the university just release the contract today?

That’s nothing. I would’ve required loopy straws in cool-aid

I wonder how much money was wasted ‘investigating’ this non-story?
suck it up, she may likely be worth it said and done.
The documents were found shredded inside a dumpster adjacent to the school's administrative building 48 hours after Senator Leland Yee questioned how much the school was spending to bring the former Alaskan Governor to the school for a fundraiser.
I am more interested in who was paid to go "dumpster diving" and how much they were paid, and by whom.
ZOMG!!! Splenda!!!! That’s it, I will never listen to her again.
These lamestream nuts will try to make even normal requests look suspicious by the tone they use.

Old news. Already investigated and they found nothing.
YAWN . . . .
TWO bottles of water
Bendy straws
Staying at a Doubletree...
Clearly she has lost touch with the real America and is living an opulent lifestyle that shows her contempt for working people. She and Todd will be moving to The Hamptons, and announcing they are veegans any day now.
And what gives with “Unopened water” what, she cant open the water herself LOL..Im telling ya this kinda stuff is hysterical..liberals truly have NO life
Rumor has it they gave her a sweatshirt too. Big media is really uncovering corruption.
Pray for America
Maybe they relesed the actual contract today but there were stories on this here at FR sometime back. I’ll check and see of I can find any.
CSU just released the contract today, a few hours ago.
Should they suck it up a bendy straw or a straight one?
“Controversy”? It’s not like she asked to build a mosque at Ground Zero or anything. I mean, “bendy straw” vs. “mosque at ground zero”?
Straws and bottled water? What a diva!
I agree. I used to support Sarah Palin but now that I know she demanded bendy straws......well, that was the last straw. What a horrible woman../s
Knowing how the media is, will it kill her if they don’t put a bendable straw? I mean it’s just an hour-long speech, you’re not buying a house or a car.
Yeah, didn’t they feed her?
I read about this on FR some time ago, the release of this contract not withstanding.
Okay, thanks. See if you can also find references to bendy straws and all the specific dollar amounts. I always try to avoid posting duplicates and old news, but sometimes overlook stuff.
Liberal PDS.
The courts made CSU release the contract.

What I want to know is if Sarah and WSB waived the confidential agreement.
Sounds like a reasonable contract, a good profit for the foundation, and that they were lucky to land her. The only possible gotcha is if she referred to the original report as ‘lies’ when it was 100% accurate.
as far as I’m aware Palin didn’t attack the lame stream media for misreporting, but their obsession that she requested bendable straws. That somehow its so scandalous that they have to report about it
Conservatives generating funds in California may be a bigger issue.
Okay, then. It’s not old news. It’s new news.
As I’ve said, when were all these specific dollar amounts released?
I think what you are talking about are old rumors the left tried to smear Palin with. This story has the facts, except the lamestream media is still trying to smear her for asking for a couple of bendy straws, etc., lol. They never give up.
They even called the leaker A WHISTLEBLOWER for gawd sacks. Whistleblow what? That she’s making a speech and getting paid for it and requested bendable straws?! Man, Sarah is soo corrupt
I read recently about one of those prima-dona rock bands that insisted that all the blue M&Ms be removed from the bowls that were set out back stage. The bandleader said that this was true, but the reason was that they relied on venues to do massive detail work with equipment and structural setups, and some of this was even life critical, dangerous if screwed up.
They use the M&Ms like canaries in the coal mine, so that if the venue was sloppy with the M&Ms, they couldn’t trust anything else that their lives or performance relied upon.
Great! She’s like all the other women I know.
Bendy straw to keep makeup and lipstick perfect and bottled water because it comes in a handy and easily gripped container.
It’s not like she asked for Petrus or anything.
No no, you’re not posting a duplicate. It looks as if Fox40 is prolonging this story because of a dislike for Palin but maybe I’m wrong.
Here’s one piece where she referred to bendy straws a couple months back but there were more prior to that.

the media was trying to spin a normal speaking engagement into a major scandal. Something that DEM do all the time, but somehow its a scandal because Palin is doing it
its just like the $400k clothing controvesy. Never mind that what OBama/Biden spend on their clothing. They probably spent just as much, but the media never cared about hwo much clothign the DEM spent. It annoyed me that the Mccain campaign never bothered to ask the media “Hey, tell us what the DEM spent” If you’re going to make a scandal out of $400k, at least make a comparison. Obama had a $700+million war chest. He spent ALOT of money
LOL LOL..This state is broke..and THIS somehow became a priority for Jerry Brown. As much as I dislike Whitman, she has my vote. This state would be even more messed up if Brown won, and that says a lot since this state is well, you know how bad it is here
Thank you. I totally missed the bendy straw story first time around.
The left is so pathetic it’s hilarious. They’re on a big kick to outlaw bottled water and think they can hurt Palin on the grounds that she demanded two bottles of water on the lectern, lol. So pitiful.
Have we ever, ever seen one of Al Gore’s contract? I bet he requests a 50 year old Masseuse to visit him at midnight.
I’m a fan of bendy straws, myself. I like Glad Flexible Straws. They are made in the U.S.A.

Go Sarah!
Bendystrawgate.
They’ve gone from, “it’s not the nature of the evidence, it’s the seriousness of the charge,” to, “it’s not even the seriousness of the charge, it’s just the fact that it’s Palin.”
Maybe Sarah thought bendable straws would be harder to grasp at? So much for that theory.
The media had tried to make her sound like a diva, requiring accommodations at a ‘luxury hotel’. There’s nobody who would rightly consider a 3-star Doubletree as a ‘luxury hotel’. I mean, did they want her staying at a Days Inn?
