Connecticut's off-again, on-again Senate race has bedeviled prognosticators, but Republican nominee Linda McMahon has now firmly forced the seat back into the competitive column by making it a referendum on the character of Democratic rival and longtime state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal.
Mrs. McMahon has whittled down what had once seemed like an insurmountable 40 percentage-point deficit to 10 points by questioning Mr. Blumenthal's credibility on his military service and now on his campaign finances. The Blumenthal camp insists the Democrat's 20-year record of going after tobacco firms and pharmaceutical companies will win over voters in the end.
It's still Mr. Blumenthal's race to lose, said Scott McLean, a political science professor at Quinnipiac University, while joking that the Democrat has "done an awful lot to lose it so far."
While Mr. Blumenthal bided his time during the often brutal GOP primary, his camp is showing why the race is expected to be a bare-knuckle battle by trying to use Mrs. McMahon's tenure as the top executive at World Wrestling Entertainment against her. His supporters have cited racy storylines, premature deaths, steroid abuse and other scandals associated with the professional wrestling franchise.

Unifying Republicans is vital for Mrs. McMahon in a state where registered Democratic voters outnumber the GOP 792,934 to 433,057. Even more important, though, is making inroads with Connecticut's coveted nearly 1 million unaffiliated voters, whom both parties are fervently courting.

... so I ask you, how could anybody from the state that gave America the co-inventor of the Waitress Sandwich and writer of great banking laws, Chris Dudd, turn down a Vietnam Marine combat vet such as myself, who has never taken a dollar of PAC money, in favor of a gal who got rich by working in the real world and building a business from scratch?
McMahon has nothing to run on because she agrees with Blumenthal on the issues more often than not.
she has money to run on.
Yea, elect me cause I have money. That’ll work. You have to wonder with all that money why does she want to take a drastic pay cut in buying her way to a D.C. government job?
If you haven’t noticed, it’s a common career path for the wealthy. The most exclusive club in America. What people want to be a part of when the salary doesn’t matter any more.
God I hope not. If it does, it really says something about the decline of the work ethic and sense of personal responsibility of the Connecticut voters.
Democrats have two talking points here in Connecticut. That is one of them. The other is attacking her for the WWE.
Her current ad (Blumenthal isn't running any that I know) is short and simple. The $800 billion stimulus didn't help small business. The money was given to government agencies. "I don't have to tell you how well that works." Cut spending. Stop raising taxes. Create jobs.
Blumenthal is a predator. Those in other states who don't know what he's about and attack McMahon are in for a nasty surprise if he gets in the Senate. He's worse than Schumer, worse than any other rat. He's not just an ideologue. He gets off on destroying people.
We elect her because it makes the area between Blumenthal and TV cameras safe for small children.
[ in favor of a gal who got rich by working in the real world and building a business from scratch? ]
Not to be too picky but they didn’t start the business from scratch. They purchased the existing ‘WWWF’ from Vince’s dad, who bought it from his dad. This is a 3rd generation business at this point.
It is fair to say that she had a major role in building it from a regional promotion to the global powerhouse it is today.
It will be a lot of fun to see her in the Senate, the Saturday Night Live parodies will be great!!
He’s been in office all his life, yet I don’t think he’s ever had a really contested race..thus his “political skills” as a campaign have never been tested, and he may well implode...are there debates scheduled?
