It's been more than a week since pastor Joshua Kulendran Mayandy has been given food or water at a Brampton, Canada, hospital where he is being treated for a brain impairment following a heart attack.
The medical facility's officials are following a determination that he will get his next sustenance only when he can ask the doctor for it.
The Sri Lankan Mayandy, who arrived in Canada 10 years ago to pastor a small church, complained of chest pain and was hospitalized after collapsing with a heart attack May 29.
He was revived successfully, although the apparent brain damage from the attack left him in a coma for a time. He was placed in intensive care where he regained consciousness. An eyewitness has reported he has regained movement in his arms and legs and that he recognizes the family he is living with.
According to Bernard Stephenson, another local pastor and friend who visits Mayandy daily, the injured man can speak some words.
But staff with Brampton Civic Hospital, which is part of the William Osler Health Center, disagree. According to Stephenson, doctors asserted all along that there was no hope of recovery.
The disagreement over his condition and capacity triggered in Ontario the involvement of the region's "Consent and Capacity" board, which by law determines the proper medical treatment for patients unable to make decisions themselves.

Schadenberg, however, points out that Ontario is “$20 billion in debt.”
“There are unwritten rules. One of them is that long-term care is simply too costly,” he said.
Schadenberg said by law he cannot intervene in the case unless Mayandy’s board-appointed “friend” grants him permission.
Meanwhile, he said, time is running out for Mayandy, who can breathe, move and speak a little but cannot convince doctors he is worth saving.
Vigilante Action Required
Too bad he’s not an imam. He’d be eating like a king. Doctors like their heads where they are.
He just doesn't understand his duty to die. The Death Panel has spoken.

A few months ago, one of our pastors was in a coma. His wife was told to prepare for his death, and she steeled herself to his end.
Last week this same pastor taught our Bible Study, and he was as bright and agile as he was before his “fatal stroke.”
I have a background in critical care nursing. Such stories are quite common. I have dozens.
That’d be about the way I’d handle things.
So that’s how they eliminate the “undesirables.” Make them beg for food and water. If they are too weak to say the magic words, or they have an injury that prevents them from talking, it’s “let them starve and let their parched tongues stick to the roof of their mouths”
How is it different from nazi Germany?
In no way that matters.
For real?
My elderly mom would be dead by now! She’s had two strokes and is left with aphasia (where she gets words confused), but other than that, she’s fine. She asks for something to drink, but usually gets the word wrong (”butter”, instead of “water”, for example).
Unbelievable, and horrifying!
I hope that someday the only Death Panel in Canada will be the end boards at Rexall Place in Edmonton...
If the principle that men is entitled to kill his unproductive fellow-man is established and applied, then woe betide all of us when we become aged and infirm!
If it is legitimate to kill unproductive members of the community, woe betide the disabled who have sacrificed their health or their limbs in the productive process!
If unproductive men and women can be disposed of by violent means, woe betide our brave soldiers who return home with major disabilities as cripples, as invalids!
If it is once admitted that men have the right to kill “unproductive” fellow-men — even though it is at present applied only to poor and defenceless mentally ill patients — then the way is open for the murder of all unproductive men and women: the incurably ill, the handicapped who are unable to work, those disabled in industry or war. The way is open, indeed, for the murder of all of us when we become old and infirm and therefore unproductive.
Then it will require only a secret order to be issued that the procedure which has been tried and tested with the mentally ill should be extended to other “unproductive” persons, that it should also be applied to those suffering from incurable tuberculosis, the aged and infirm, persons disabled in industry, soldiers with disabling injuries!
Then no man will be safe: some committee or other will be able to put him on the list of “unproductive” persons, who in their judgment have become “unworthy to live”. And there will be no police to protect him, no court to avenge his murder and bring his murderers to justice.

The Bishop was deeply dejected when in his place 24 secular priests and 13 members of the regular clergy were deported into concentration camps, of whom 10 lost their lives.

People forget that the Nazis killed many of their own WW1 vets who had suffered severe, crippling injuries on the battlefield.
