Bad news for Democrats keeps flooding in
Washington Examiner ^ | 8/27/2010 | Michael Barone

Posted on 08/27/2010 8:14:53 AM PDT by markomalley

More good news for Republicans and bad news for Democrats keeps flooding in. Consider this morning’s polls reported in realclearpolitics.com. Mason-Dixon, polling for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, has Harry Reid up over Sherron Angle by only 45%-44%–a statistical tie. The mainstream meme has been that Angle is unelectable. This poll refutes that. She’s certainly not a sure winner, but she’s not a sure loser either. And Harry Reid, who has been on statewide ballots in Nevada going back to 1970, when he was elected lieutenant governor, is stuck under 50%.

Next is Scott Rasmussen’s poll in the Florida governor race: Republican Rick Scott 45%, Democrat Alex Sink 42%, independent Lawton Chiles 4%. Scott hasn’t been endorsed by Attorney General Bill McCollum, whom he upset in the primary, and he carries a lot of baggage. But he’s certainly competitive in a state where 58% of the two-party vote in the primaries was cast for Republicans even though there are more registered Democrats than Republicans.

In my home state of Michigan, EPIC/MRA reports that Republican Rick Snyder leads Democrat Virg Bernero 51%-29% in the race for governor. Michigan had the nation’s highest unemployment for several years until it was eclipsed recently by Nevada, and liberal conventional wisdom is that economic distress will lead to a surge of blue collar voting for Democrats. Bernero is type cast for this: he’s a UAW stalwart, who as mayor of Lansing made bombastic appearances on Fox News supporting the GM/Chrysler/UAW bailout. But he’s hugely behind Snyder, a self-funding businessman who campaigned as a tough nerd. Seems like Michigan voters don’t think big government spending and collusion with unions is the way out of the economic doldrums.

Then there’s the governor race in Wisconsin, on which Stephen Hayes has a nice article in the Weekly Standard. Here Rasmussen has Republican Scott Walker leading Democrat Tom Barrett 47%-44%. Democrats have had a good run in Wisconsin in recent years, carrying the state with the help of big margins in the western and northern rural counties—part of the biggest swath of rural territory going for Barack Obama in 2008. As Hayes (a Wisconsin native) notes, Barrett, Mayor of Milwaukee and former Congressman, and a likeable guy, didn’t show up at Barack Obama’s public appearances in Wisconsin this month, and was conspicuously off camera at a fundraiser where Obama appeared for him in the evening.

Don’t underestimate the dems. They have the biggest lying slime machine in the world. They have the media on their side. They have unlimited funds. They are relentless and are not embarrassed by their lies.

I’ve heard that Sink’s internal polling has her ahead of Scott. Meanwhile, Scott’s on top in most State polls. They’re going to be neck-and-neck up to the election, but I’m guessing that since this is an off-year election, Scott wins by 5%.

The Bad News: Republicans Sweep House

The Obama Economy nose dives further into the tank ..... but good news for the Democrats .... now they have someone .... obstructionist Republicans .... to blame it on in 2012, just in time for Hillary's candidacy.

“Don’t underestimate the dems.”

Fair enough, but remember the old adage: “they can’t cheat if it isn’t close.” Stay the course, everybody. Take NOTHING for granted—that’s the only way we’ll get to January’s To-Do List:
Repeal
Investigate
Indict

Two heads, same snake

Two heads, same snake

It will take much more than a couple of election cycles to root out the vermin.
Take a look at the NRSC's action in Alaska. Pushing for the establishment
candidate rather than the people's candidate.

You’re not kidding. You should see what they just pulled in Michigan yesterday. Mich. Supreme Ct. Justice Weaver (former Republican who subsequently has been voting with Dems) flipped balance on court when she announced her retirement so outgoing Democrat governor Jenny Grandtheft could appoint a Dem to the bench. This will put Dems in control and they have final say on any redistricting issues from 2010 Census. Weaver was up for reelection in November.

Many democratic members of congress including Pelosi are in this group: http://www.dsausa.org/dsa.html

liberal conventional wisdom is that economic distress will lead to a surge of blue collar voting for Democrats.

You know he's half-right...I truly believe they will turn out to vote, but given the current state of unions and employment in Michigan...they will vote Republican this time.

it is not r vs d. It is INSIDE DC vs outside DC.

This is why it is always about incumbant protection.

McCain gets along with democrats, democrats have lunch with republicans.

Both yell at each other in front of cameras and then laugh at the voters over martinis. OUTSIDE of DC there is a difference. But those who show the difference are excluded from the walls of the beltway.

Why else are insiders pushing crist.

Just in case you are not a democrat, this is how it works. Fight like hell in the primaries for the candidate of your liking. Once you are in the general election it is the republican party vs the democrats or as RR said here's the plan: we win, they lose.

no surrender and we still reserve the right to shoot deserters

Maybe you should reread my original post. One or two election cycles is not going fix things. This fight will take many years and much education of a dumbed down electorate.

How many times have conservatives be betrayed by the GOP? The GOP is not the answer. Conservatives wresting control of the GOP from the elites and RINOs is what is needed. Then the utter defeat and discrediting of the commiecrats. This election is a good first step, but that’s it.

What insiders(non greek)are backing Crist? none. Next, So your goal is to get rid of any incumbant, no matter if they voted our way or against us, Saddam did that, very effective, keeped everyone confused and afraid, is that your plan? or are you just too buzzy to evaluate a candidates voting record? When I coached soccer I told my players to tell the guy they were marking how good they were and to ask them why their teammates weren’t passing the ball to them. First they would start yelling at their teammates for the ball and when they did get it they ball-hogged it. They all started yelling at each other. We called it “desension on the team” and it was fun. Are you having fun? Are you on our team?

I think Michigan is going to be a real surprise this election cycle but FReepers need to drop the instinctive bashing and pay real attention.

I’m not talking about anyone in particular but we could use your help. If you’re in a red state with a well funded likely republican winner, consider a few bucks to a strong blue state conservative. Here in Michigan, Benishek, Walberg, and Steele are good bets with Walberg being probably the safest bet with a clear 10 point advantage.

I don’t like Rick Snyder one bit but I will vote for him and I personally think he’ll find little choice but to move to the right.

Interestingly enough, both the Detroit Free press and Detroit news are running editorials calling the democrats a corrupt party.

Dick Morris used a good analogy referring to Reid and other Democrats who have been consistently under 50% for months. When over half the people have said no to Reid, its like asking someone if they will be married to their spouse next year. If there is that much doubt, the marriage is over.

Our reputation for liberalism is baseless and undeserved.

We have one more democrat representative in Washington than we have republicans and that is obviously going to change. Snyder while far from perfect is looking pretty strong in comparison to Bernero. The GOP holds a majority in the state senate and the democrats hold a majority in the house. Less than 10 of our 83 counties consistently vote democrat. The majority of Michigan governors have been republican with only 2 democrats in the last 50 years. We have pretty good gun laws compared to most of the country, we’ve voted against gay marriage and affirmative action.

We’re heavily unionized and overtaxed but that doesn’t mean liberal by any means.

I will not give one cent to the RNC, I donate directly to candidates. If everyone did that, we could force real change in the RNC.

I’m not familiar with MI pols. Thanks for your suggestions. I have a few favorites I will be supporting, but not from my adopted home state. Charles Djou won because of infighting in the dem party, two candidates split the dem vote giving the win to Charles. He has 0 chance of holding his seat in the general.

I am very impressed with Lt Col Allen West (FL), Bill Randall (NC). Both are black, strong, well spoken conservatives. They are the sort who drive the libs nuts. Got to love it!

Have a great weekend. I just finished a 12 hour night shift. Doing my part to support the ‘less advantaged’. Good night!
