Thousands Gather for Glenn Beck Rally in DC (A Thousand Camping Out Overnight at Lincoln Memorial)

Thousands of people have already poured into Washington, D.C. for a Saturday rally organized by conservative radio and television commentator Glenn Beck.

Although camping is illegal on the National Mall, hundreds of people are choosing to spend the night on the grassy lawn of the Mall on both sides of the Reflecting Pool. They are doing that to get a better view on Saturday. Police say, as long as people remain awake, they may stay.

(Check out the video report of the crowd and Beck's pre-rally visit to the site at the source link. In the video, the reporter says there are equally large numbers of people in the hundreds on either side of the Reflecting Pool, hence I put the campers at a thousand.)

This is unprecedented in recent history of rallies on the Mall in D.C. to have a thousand people camping out at the rally site the night before. Many more will be arriving throughout the night because Beck is starting the rally at 10 a.m. EDT.

These people were the first to camp out at this area in front of the Lincoln Memorial earlier today:

I’m glad people are rallying for freedom, but I just don’t get Beck. I had him on the radio as I was driving home tonight. I could only take about five minutes of his whimpering and sobbing before I had to turn him off. It was like the week Mark Levine spent talking about his dead dog, no thanks.

The police here in San Diego claim they can’t stop people from sleeping in the streets due to violation of the civil rights. I guess people in DC don’t have the same rights.

She will stand with Glenn tomorrow,
as will many of us, in spirit, who cannot attend.
We can all continue to pray for revival. It’s the only way to restore our country.

When Alveda was on the radio today, Glenn asked her about how she will prepare for tomorrow, considering the losses her family has suffered. The scripture she recited gave me chills, as it is one of my most frequently recalled scriptures.

I hope to see some of the rally on C-SPAN. I have to work tomorrow, but I will try to see as much of the rally as possible.
