I really do miss Dr. Steve Lyons doing the Tropical Forecast. NBC Universal went out of their way to screw up a good format. Have you noticed the technical data associated with a storm is now few and far? Adding the worthless Al Roker was the final nail in the coffin.

Hey NN...how’s it going!
So I’m looking at the map and being reminded of a few lines from Fiddler on the Roof.
Rabbi! May I ask you a question?
Rabbi: Certainly, Lebisch!
Lebisch: Is there a proper blessing... for the Tsar?
Rabbi: A blessing for the Tsar? Of course! May God bless and keep the Tsar... far away from us!
So I say: May God bles and keep those hurricanes far away from us!!!!

I should have gone into meteorology when I was younger...I like to gather data from several resources; Intellicast, AccuWeather, Weather Underground; and then interpret the data myself. Usually prove to be more accurate with my local forecast than the guys on the news...of course; that's not saying much. Chimps with a dartboard could beat them on most days...
Forums on AccuWeather are a blast; especially during landfalling hurricanes or snowstorms. Everyone has an opinion...LOL! Great stuff...

As the time gets a little closer I suspect it may even move into the gulf. If Earl doesn’t start moving north soon that will also be worth watching. Both Earl and future Fiona expected to be major storms.

Thanks for posting this. As of yesterday, 63 rip current rescues and one death on Florida’s East Coast from Danielle. That put my attention on the Atlantic and see that Earl is far enough out that a shift eastward is still a possibility, even though the models don;t show it - YET. Time to go from HurCon5 to HurCon4.

That’s what I do too. I was in meteorology (air weather service) in the USAF in the 70s. I know just enough to be dangerous. LOL
If you want a one stop shop for data, try Crown Weather Service: http://www.crownweather.com/ Their website is like the Drudge for atmospheric info.

Me too!
I have lots of family south of Dallas, but our youngest son just moved to Galveston in May.
Went down to visit him last week.
Still remnants of damage from Ike.
Scary what those storms can do!
Lots more gray hair for this mom!

The Talkweather Forums (www.talkweather.com)are a trip too. Everyone spouts their opinion, and then stomps on everyone else’s.

Hi NN,
I was spending the weekend on Culebra Island (midway between PR & the VI). They had cancelled all the flights in and out of there. They finally released one airplane and I was able to score two of eight seats out of there.
Thankfully it looks like the brunt of it will miss us.
Take care,
cll

Glad to know you are safe at home. Hmmm...you certainly beat the odds scoring 2 of 8 seats on the only flight out off the island. Congrats!

Doing good. Wishing away the hurricanes, so far, so good...knock on wood! Wouldn’t it be nice if our homeowner’s insurance reflected the string of hurricane free years we’ve had? And my dad called me the other day and said “How did my appraisal go down and my property taxes go up?”...so I had to explain the SOH deal to him. The Florida homeowner’s experience, gotta love it!

The forecast models are in general agreement that Earl will remain offshore of the Eastern U.S. coastline. The 0600 NHC Discussion cautions, however, the average track forecast errors are 200 to 300 miles at days 4 and 5. It is too soon to determine what...if any...parts of the U.S. East Coast might see direct impacts from Earl later this week.
