Appearing on CBS' "Face the Nation," Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., described the GOP primaries, and yesterday's rally in Washington led by conservative commentator Glenn Beck, as a sign that "There is a raging battle going on within the Republican Party for the heart and soul of the Republican Party."
-snip-
Miss. Gov. Haley Barbour, also appearing on the program, dismissed Wasserman Schultz's suggestion that Republican incumbents fear a Tea Party insurgency.
As a past chairman of the Republican National Committee and current chairman of the Republican Governors Association, Barbour said, "We never took sides in primaries. We did not endorse incumbents over challengers.
"Here's why: The Republicans of Alaska have the right and should pick their nominee. They don't need somebody in Mississippi to tell them who ought to be the Senator of Alaska."
Schieffer asked Barbour if in November the GOP would have a hard time selling Miller and other far-right candidates (such as Rand Paul in Kentucky, who said restaurants should be permitted to discriminate against customers based on race, and Joe Buck in Colorado, who warned building bike paths would make Denver subservient to the United Nations). "It seems to me you do have an exotic crew out there this time," Schieffer said.
Barbour instead suggested that the success of far-right candidates was a response to the Democrats making what he termed "the biggest lurch to the left in policy in American history.

"As far as talking about less money [from Washington], look, my budget this year in Mississippi is 13% less than it was two years ago. I cut spending 9.7% last year. Frankly, nobody much noticed the difference. We were able to continue to provide services. People weren't kicked off Medicaid," Barbour said. "The fact is, the country is going to have to spend less money. If Joe miller was trying to say that in a different way, he is right if what he's saying is our country has got to spend less money. We're been on a spending spree that made drunken sailors have a bad name."
It’s a battle, but a battle to transplant a heart and soul into the party. The party had been missing same for decades.
I object to the use of this simile. Drunken sailors spend their own money.
I like Haley.....
More proof the deems and professional politicians are afraid of us TEA partners. Good.
HALEY PING
I like Haley.....
Yep ... he’s got a pair ... the Dems still worry about him coming back.
Embodied by Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater. I doubt we shall see their kind again. Kind of like we'll never see a large group of leaders who seek to affirm the basic most beliefs of the Founding Fathers.
Imagine Haley and Chris Christie on the same ticket.
I promise, after yesterday’s rally the RINO’s are more scared than the dims.
If the RNC doesn't embrace these candidates, then the people will, and the RNC and their Congressional and Gubernatorial arms will become irrelevant.

Warning, Wasserman-Shultz is unbearable.
LOL. Two fat white guys. :) They’d make a fun team...
Hey, anyone who bashes that massive dumbass Wasserman Schultz is okay in my book. She is revolting.
Nope. Here is the correct version:
. I mean, Americans are really going to have a very clear choice set up in November, between extreme Democrats who are left wing fringe, and Republicans who are where the country is."

Hi!! Thanks for the update. I like Barbour. Wasserman-Shultz’s curls are to tight! She is pure barf.
Everybody knows that unbound enthusiasm, the middle turning on the other party, massive rallies, vigorous inter-party debate, and boffo poll numbers mean a party is in trouble.
Nice but I think a better metaphor would be to transplant a set of gonads in to the party.
The Republican party was neutered in the 1930s and again in the 1970s,
Its about time that the GOP regained a bit of virility.
Nutty, hateful witch is clueless. She should really stick to advising her own party since she is so far left she is off the map and helping to cause so-called moderate Democrats to get their butt beat come November.
You just got to love Barbour.
If the republican party doesn’t get some smarts and welcome the Tea Party philosophy they are doomed.
After all, who needs another second rate democrat party? And a second rate imitation at that.
Republicans emulated democrats for almost eight years and look how well it worked for them.
I remember when republicans took over in 2000 after eight years of the Clintons’ antics. People said things like “Now let the adults take over.”
But the truth is it was mostly brainless greedheaded pigs and RINO’s taking over. They let a golden opportunity to correct the evils of liberalism slip by while they stuffed their fat faces at the pig trough. Although in all fairness, they did take an occasional break from screwing taxpayers to try and shove SHAMNESTY and other liberal policies down our throats.
>> Its a battle, but a battle to transplant a heart and soul into the party.
More like an exorcism.
Imagine Haley and Chris Christie on the same ticket.

Yep; a Mississippi twang and a New Jersey accent. What a combo. LOL!
But that interview showed an element of what we can expect from the MSM from now till the November elections: as in the 2008 campaign season—Democratic candidates/incumbents/apologists who appear as guests state (and repeat wholly or in part during the same appearance) the Left-wing spin on a given issue(s). They get NO tough follow-up questions (or eyes-rolling response) from the “journalist”. Rather (no pun intended), the, um, flunkie turns to the Right-wing (always a suspected wacko himself—definite wacko if a female conservative) guest and, like Schieffer did in this interview, ask “what about that”? To the sheep, it plays like a defendant who hasn’t made bail show-up in court in an orange jump suit and shackles.
.... Pelosi in training
As a former drunken sailor, I must take exception to that remark on two grounds:
1. Drunken sailors spend their own money.
2. When drunken sailors run out of money, they stop spending.
“The fact that you have the DNC trying to marginalize Angle and other Tea Party candidates as fringe kooks means they’re deathly afraid of Republicans who are conservative.”
I just want Freepers to know that we have more up our sleave regarding Harry. You all know I wrote a book on Reid, more stuff is dripping out drop by drop, stuff that makes Rangel look like a saint. We’ll see how it all plays out, but don’t give up on Angle.
Joe Buck is the most overrated announcer in sports. If his father wasn’t the voice of the Cardinals for decades, he would be lucky to be announcing for the Burlington (Iowa) Bees.
Last I checked Americans didn’t see Democrat’s as “centrists”. Keep spinning, it isn’t working this time.
Thanks, onyx.......you always come through with the good ones.
Mahalo
Why would anybody give up on a challenger that's neck and neck with an incumbent that can't break 44%?
Aw, thank you for your kind words, dear Islander2.
Muhalo
If the Tea Party is making it rought for the GOP, maybe the GOP had better get with the party! Looks to me like it is being replaced. :)

Dems see Palin beats Obama or Hillary. Americans get it.
“Imagine Haley and Chris Christie on the same ticket.”
Heh heh ... call it the Dems wouldn’t know whether to crap or go sightless ticket ...
Liberal heads exploding all over the country.
If there was a credible opposition candidate to Wasserman Schultz, I would consider spending a few weeks in Florida campaigning. Wasserman Schultz gets under my skin worse than Pelosi. Both need to go.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz should worry about the heart and soul of the Democrat party.
Barbour is NOT sympathetic to the Tea Party, not a
new republican, but will happily borrow from any success by the Tea Party he can use. Haley is indebted to, and one of, the establishment, and is very aware of his own charm. He will not be seen or heard giving support to the Tea Party, but will deflect as smoothly as melted butter. Watch a little closer.
Wasserman-Schlitz. The gift that keeps on giving.
Haley bump!
He’s a man’s man...kinda like yourself. ;o)
I’m so glad to see him taking the positions he’s taking.
I refer you to your other ping that I answered for clarity.
>>No more of the ‘go along, get along’ equivocating from the barely right-of-center Establishment types.<<
The move is on to make the Tea Party candidates who win in November into RINOs. Trent Lott is the leader. PUBs have ZERO intentions of giving any power to the new members. “Co-opt” is the new buzzword.
Nothing is going to change until we start putting the Versailles crowd in solitary confinement.
[Why would anybody give up on a challenger that’s neck and neck with an incumbent that can’t break 44%? ]
If you knew how corrupt Nevada politics is, you wouldn’t ask that. Reid has a huge warchest which will be used to buy the union vote machine which in turn buys out other constituents. Trust me, I wrote the book on Reid (literally, click on my name) and I’ve worked with some of these goons. Harry has the mob vote and he has the casino mogul vote and he has the all important titty-bar owner vote. Read between the lines.
That doesn’t mean Angle can’t win, just that I’d consider Reid the probable winner at this point. Go look up the race on Intrade and you’ll see what the wiseguys are betting. If I had any money, I’d be betting on Angle because of insider knowlege, but if you are betting the wiseguy line Reid is a shoo-in.
When reflecting on Debbie Wasserman Schultz a “barf alert” should be issued.
Gees. How many of them can there be?
