Gay Republicans Rising
Yahoo News ^ | Aug. 29, 2010 | Timothy Patrick McCarthy

NEW YORK – Will the Republican Party follow Ken Mehlman’s lead and step out on gay rights? Historian Timothy McCarthy imagines a future where the GOP starts talking like Harvey Milk.

Every queer knows that some of the biggest homophobes are closet cases. Simply recall the names of Mark Foley, Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, or George “rent-boy” Rekers. The latest Republican to move from the closet to the Log Cabin is Ken Mehlman, the architect of George W. Bush’s successful 2004 reelection campaign and former chairman of the Republican National Committee. Judging by the current political climate, Mehlman’s coming out may not be an aberration for Republicans. It could actually point the way toward its future.

Last week, Mehlman, whose “lifestyle” has long been an open secret in Washington, made waves by finally acknowledging his homosexuality to The Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder. “It’s taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life,” Mehlman said. “Everybody has their own path to travel, their own journey…” In coming out, Mehlman also joined a growing chorus of GOP power players—among them Dick Cheney, Laura Bush, and former McCain campaign adviser Steve Schmidt—who now say they support the right of same-sex couples to get married. But Mehlman is going even further, raising money and assisting one of the main groups responsible for the (so far) successful court challenge to California’s anti-gay Proposition 8 ...

In MA, Republican and Democrat politicians used to compete to get on the cover of The Boston Pilot. Now they compete to get on the cover of Bay Windows. Do they think trading the Catholic vote for the Gay vote is a winner? And how far will they turn on the Catholic vote to satiate the Gay vote?

While my local parish doesn’t espouse Liberal talking points, I know of several Catholic diocese that support/supported pro-choice candidates. The Catholic church has its own problems. That includes politicians like Pelosi and Kerry who want to have it both ways.

You got that right, TD.

Mehlman's contempt for Republicans was on-display. He was the stalking horse for the "Destroy Republicans" crowd----religious cleansing of the party was at the top of their agenda. These savages liked nothing more than to kick so/cons to the curb.

BACKSTORY In one example that has never previously come out, on June 8, 2002, the Washington Post and other publications began reporting that a Senate staffer on Capitol Hill had found a computer disk in Lafayette Park across from the White House.

On the disk was a PowerPoint presentation that Rove and Mehlman had given to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses in the 2002 mid-term election. As outlined in a series of subsequent press disclosures, the presentation reviewed prospects for individual candidates, including which ones might lose.

The vaunted secrecy of the Bush White House had sprung a leak. According to the Mehlman aide who was in charge of the mechanics of the PowerPoint presentation, the talk was given to a chapter of the California Lincoln Club at the Hay Adams Hotel across from the White House. The aide hooked up his laptop computer to the projector.

"At that time, I used to bring a floppy disk in case there was a computer problem," said the aide, who agreed to tell me what happened without attribution to him. "I took the disk out of my pocket and put it in a folder I was carrying with Karl's hard copy of the presentation. I left the folder on the projector; I'm certain the disk was still in it." The aide said the disk was not lost in the park. "My belief is that someone in the room took it from the folder on top of the projector," he said. "I did leave it there unattended after I tested the projector for a minute or two. I think I went to get a diet Coke."

When the details of the PowerPoint presentation hit the press, Mehlman asked the staffer about it. He said he took full responsibility and offered to resign. But both Mehlman and Rove supported him.

===========================================

Mehlman was sucking up to gays even though he now says he "just found out" he was gay (cue hysterical laughter).

When the details hit the press that the top secret PowerPoint presentation given to a chapter of the (gay-centric) California Lincoln Club, Mehlman said he took full responsibility, and offered to resign.

GWB would not accept his resignation.

Besides, Kenny had just heard there was a half-price sale on satin sheets and down-filled duvets at Bed, Bath and Beyond........and he was anxious to get there before the doors opened.

Plus he had to spit-shine his penny loafers.

Not this homosexual CRAP again! One guy comes out and the homosexuals and their useful idiots act like the Republican Party just endorsed “gay marriage.”

We’ve been infested with the ideology lately and even though some are newer members alot of the ‘tis ok with me’ attitude is coming from FR veterans.

One of the main problems (imho) is that people don’t seem to discern or acknowledge that it’s a deviant lifestyle and an abomination to God. To openly endorse it is to invite the wrath of God (which...I expect anyday to tell you the truth).

And people wonder why America is having problems.

I wish FR had a "like" button cuz I'd definetly click it for your post!

sin is everywhere and consuming our society including our leaders

They are not leaders, they are depraved, self centered, deceived, ruling class manipulators.

As always, homos are nothing but trouble.

Then we need to talk about the divorce rate as well. Remember, the Bible says God hates divorce. We need to clean our own houses, too. Marriage has become a joke.

The Orthodox faith allows for divorce for cause.

The “fix divorce” meme is a red herring.

homosexuals are looking to mainstream because the left needs to destroy the family unit.

Homosexuals contribute nothing to societ. They are dependent on the government for special rights. Destroy marriage and all people, men women children become beholding to the government for rights.

Then we need to talk about the divorce rate as well.

It's the welfare hammock. People don't have to work out their differences anymore. The ruling class has their back at everyone elses expense.

Look around. We don’t need homosexuals to destroy the family unit. We are perfectly capable of doing that by ourselves. Look at the number of children born to single women. It used to be unheard of when I was growing up. Now it’s just accepted.

I am, however, vehemently opposed to homosexual marriage and special rights.

Again, it's the welfare hammock. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

The way this world is going it may be wise for the party to include everybody. If Biblical prophesy is right there may soon be a whole lot of Republicans missing in the not to distant future.

Gays already have the same rights as everyone else under our Constitution. What they want is new rights to be discovered for their benefit alone.
