Good news: Alvin Greene publishes manifesto for change (So. Carolina Senate Candidate gets serious)
Hotair ^ | 08/30/2010 | Allahpundit

The bad news: He published it in a British paper. Close enough?

I think this is the first time I’ve seen a politician use the words “I’m unemployed” in an op-ed.

I’m unemployed, and, if elected, I can teach the Harvard rich kids in the White House and the senate a thing or two. I will vote for any law and propose any measure to keep jobs in my state of South Carolina. I will vote for huge tariffs, and, if necessary, vote to ban imports of foreign goods. Millionaire egghead politicians in the pocket of big business talk about “free trade” – and let all of your jobs get shipped overseas.

No more free trade. Your job is not going to Indonesia.

I will stop house foreclosures. Big banks got their bailout. Their debt was forgiven – and you paid for it. Their executives got million-dollar bonuses.

Did they forgive your debt? Did you get a bonus?…

I will stop debt collectors from calling you. I will make it illegal for a company to sell a debt you have for purposes of collection. You and your family have dignity: you are not cattle to be sold back and forth in the debt marketplace. You know how horrible it is to have those vampires calling you, again and again and again.

He also promises to eliminate wasteful military spending and apply the savings towards making college educations and health care “free,” which … makes him a completely mainstream Democrat, actually. Assuming he doesn’t end up in prison on that obscenity rap, he’ll have some free time after the election and will surely be looking to capitalize on his newfound fame with a TV gig. So I’m thinking: Since there’s already a politically themed reality show in the works starring one of the most obnoxious tools on the American media landscape, why not cast “America’s candidate” as his Democratic opponent?

An Alvin Greene/Levi Johnston debate would be one of the greatest things on television ever, and since Greene is likable to precisely the same extent that Levi’s unlikable, there’d be a stark good guy/bad guy dramatic contrast for viewers to enjoy. The only problem: Doesn’t that mean Johnston would be running … as a Republican? Gulp.

I’m confident Geene has a base constituency that will find this very attractive...if they can get their hands on a copy of The Guardian, or can find its website.

Seriously though, Al Greene ( the candidate, not the singer ) looks like he’s a Hoover Republican. What he proposes is nothing but a rehash of Smoot-Hawley that got us into the great depression.

He’s the gift that keeps on giving, but I tremble at the thought that a significant number of voters are going to find this message attractive...

Unfortunately, the closest they got was going to RedBox and renting My Bodyguard. But they'll still vote for Green, he's got the D after his name.

I could have sworn I read this sentence from him :

“I will protect children from violins on television!”

I saw in a thread late last week that he was polling around 17%. That’s absurd, but we know the background for such stupidity.

Regrettably, I agree with you. There is a significant part of the population that would vote for Greene’s platform.

Wow, those redboxes have a deeper selection than I give them credit for, if they carry that relatively obscure title.

so he’s your typical Dem and I see it is the typical Dem voters giving him 17% support, This is just brilliant.

It just shows how stupid and dumb the left are and how they have no clue what is going on or how to pay for their handouts.

Voting day comes, “er what dat D a got vote for?”

Al Greene forgot about raising the minimum wage.

We need a minimum wage of $50/hour so that poor working class people (especially young kids working at MacDonalds) can afford to get a mortgage for their homes immediately.

This would create affluent families from poor families in an instant !!

Where can I write Greene to propose this act of sheer genius ?

RE: Sounds just like Obama, unplugged.

I cannot help but wonder how much NATIONAL publicity he would get had he been Republican.

The Dems won’t even give him the support he needs. Poor guy. He’s lonely and ignored by his own party.

Hey Barry, this is your candidate -— he’s black, and he’s ready to unseat a Republican.... how’s about campaigning for him instead of some white guy in NJ or Virginia? Huh ?

100% correct!

WE bailed out the big banks and now they can’t be bothered to accept a federal tax deposit coupon and check. “You should just pay it online.” Are you freakin’ kidding me?

Judging by the failure of today’s public school system, and the dropout rate nationwide, I suspect a large percentage of that 17% will have to have the newspaper read to them. But who?

When this nation first started out, tariffs was basically the funding for the Federal Government.

I still think reasonable tariffs, on luxury goods like Scotch, yachts, mink fur, and Parisian perfume is a good idea. Raw materials? No. Most finished merchandise? Hmm, I’d have to think that one through because since we did that jobs have gone overseas.

Smoot-Hawley was about protectionism; I’m thinking government funding.
