Department of Justice Lists Survivalists, Constitutionalists in Extremism Guide
Public Intelligence ^ | 8/24/10

Posted on 08/30/2010 4:41:31 PM PDT by Kartographer

A recent Department of Justice guide for investigators of criminal and extremist groups lists “constitutionalists” and “survivalists” alongside organizations like Al-Qaeda and the Aryan Brotherhood. The 120-page, “Law Enforcement Sensitive” guide to “Investigating Terrorism and Criminal Extremism – Terms and Concepts” describes itself as “a glossary designed primarily as a tool for criminal justice professionals to enhance their understanding of words relating to extremist terminology, phrases, activities, symbols, organizations, and selected names that they may encounter while conducting criminal investigations or prosecutions of members of extremist organizations.”

Constitutionalist, defined by Random House’s 2010 Dictionary as an “adherent or advocate of constitutionalism or of an existing constitution”, is described in the report as a “generic term for members of the ‘patriot’ movement”

“constitutionalists” and “survivalists”

So the U.S. military is considered an extremist group? Has anyone told them?

I have to agree on one thing, though. Those Amish buggy bombs have killed thousands - or so I've heard.

With respect to DOJ/FBI/DHS/ATF (and others), they have all been corrupted and are part of the Obama regime. Accordingly, they are the enemy of loyal American patriots who believe in and will defend the Constitution of the United States.

The LA Times reminds us of earthquake preparedness from time to time. Part of the advice was to store food and water, the usual stuff.

Then every now and then they’d report on the bust of “a survivalist” who had a cache of food and water, and a weapon. Sometimes a hoard of weapons, with an arsenal of ammo.

Survivalists are dangerous- they can make it without government help, and may even RESIST government efforts to help!

Any GOA members here? Comments?

From the U.S. Department of Justice document cited above...

“Gun Owners of AmerIca (GOA): An extremely radical gun-
owning group with close ties to the militia movement. It
reputedly has about 100,000 members (as opposed to the
millions of NRA members). GOA is headed by Larry Pratt, a
strong militia supporter who also has close ties to the white-
supremacist movement.”

American Pistol and Rifle Association (APRA):
Formerly the most extreme of the various progun organizations in the country, with some chapters essentially constituting militia groups; it has since merged with the Gun Owners of America.

For those who did not, or do not wish to download the document, some of the ‘interesting’ definitions . . .

From the U.S. Department of Justice document entitled “Investigating Terrorism and Criminal Extremism - Terms and Concepts” . . .

“AntiAbortion Movement: A very large movement dedicated to stopping the practice of abortion, which remains one of the foremost political issues in the United States. Extremists have assassinated abortion physicians and their employees in the United States.”

“Christian Patriots: A term used, especially in the 1970s and 1980s, to describe people sympathetic to right-wing ideology.”

“Christian Reconstructionism: A theology common among many in the “patriot” movement. It essentially argues that biblical law should be the basis for reconstructing earthly societies—in other words, it espouses an essentially theocratic government.”

“Constitutionalists: A generic term for members of the “patriot” movement. It is now often used to refer to members of the sovereign citizen or common law court movement. Sometimes the word “constitutionist” is also used.”

“Jack-Booted Thug (JBT): A law enforcement officer (especially federal) draped in combat fatigues or other military or paramilitary uniform, wearing a ski mask or similar headgear guaranteeing anonymity, wielding powerful military weapons, and utilizing other military vehicles and gear.”

“Oath of OffIce: An oath public officials take that “patriots” claim binds them to the patriots’ view of duty. Perhaps the most common charge leveled by antigovernment extremists is that their public officials are violating oaths of office if they enforce an unpopular law, rule, or regulation.”

“One-World Government: The concept that there will ultimately be a single governing body that will control the world. Some right-wing extremists fear this occurring, believing that white people will be in the minority, with Jewish people ultimately controlling the world.”

“Patriot Movement: The “patriot” movement is a general term used by its members to describe the collective movements and individuals on the extreme right wing. In one form or another, this practice dates back many decades; in the 1930s, many on the far right referred to themselves as “superpatriots.” In the 1960s and 1970s, it was common to refer to the “Christian Patriot” movement, but this term is less common now than then. Among the types of individuals that can be found within the “patriot” movement are white supremacists, sovereign
citizens, tax protesters, militia members, and sometimes antiabortion or anti-environmental groups.”

“Preparedness Expos: Essentially, traveling trade fairs designed to appeal to the “patriot” market.”

“Regional Intelligence Centers: Multijurisdictional centers cooperatively developed within a logical geographical area that coordinate federal, state, and local law enforcement information with other information sources to track and assess criminal and terrorist threats that are operating in or interacting with the region.”

“Restoring the Government/Constitution: One of the prime goals of many members of the “patriot” movement, who claim they are not trying to overthrow the government but rather want to “restore” the government to its status before it started “ignoring” the Constitution. Patriots claim that most actions of the U.S. government are unconstitutional and illegal.”

“Sharia (Shariah, Shari`ah): Islamic law, based on the Koran (Allah’s revelation) and on the traditions (hadiths) of the Prophet Mohammed, ijma (consensus decision by the Muslim authorities), and Qiyas (reasoning by analogy); the way or the divine path of duty, both ritual and general behavior for Muslims; informs the community about the nature of the faithfulness that God requires of them.”

“Survivalists: The survivalist movement feared a coming collapse of civilization, generally as the result of nuclear war, and tried to prepare themselves to survive it. Survivalists typically stockpiled food, water, and weapons, especially the latter, and instructed themselves on topics ranging from first aid to childbirth to edible plants.”

“Threat Inventory: An information and intelligence-based survey within the region of a law enforcement agency to identify potential individuals or groups that pose criminal or terrorist threats without a judgment of the kind of threat they pose. The inventory is simply to determine their presence.”

“Yahweh/Yeshua: Names referring to God and Jesus, respectively, often used by Christian Identity followers.”

So the United States of America is advocating “survivalists” in terms of telling everyone to be prepared to live on their own in case of a disaster.

While our laws and republican system of government is very strongly “constitutionalists”.

IN short everyone in the United States should be both “survivalists” and “constitutionalists”. And yet somehow that all of them can be regarded as an extremest?

I’m sorry but you really devalue the word extremist when you apply it to the entire General population.

The Federal Department of justice is suppose to be hunting down terrorist, illegal aliens, and other threats of a Foreign nature. NOT the entire American population who pay their bills.

Yes, you make a very good point!

Also, I see that no one has commented on Reply #20 above about the definition of Gun Owners of America in the DOJ document. Quoting the document . . .

“Gun Owners of America (GOA): An extremely radical gun-owning group with close ties to the militia movement. It reputedly has about 100,000 members (as opposed to the millions of NRA members). GOA is headed by Larry Pratt, a strong militia supporter who also has close ties to the white-supremacist movement.”

It sounds to me like it may be a questionable and biased definition of the group (which I have heard is concerned with gun rights and the Second Amendment, although I am not familiar with the group).

GOA is often mentioned here on threads about the National Rifle Association. I was thinking about posting a thread about this for the ‘banglist’... do you think it merits a separate thread?

Do you remember when this regime scrubbed the term “Islamic terrorist” and insisted they only be referred to as
terrorist.

This shows what I suspected back them— the regime does not want to mollify the muslims. It sought a broader definition of terrorism, one they could assign to anyone they didn’t like.

This is an old time fascist ploy, and they are on schedule.

I’m certainly glad that our law-enforcement forces are “leaky” on matters like this.

It shows that at least some of them know the clear difference between the people they are employees to protect and the people they are employed to hunt down.

More importantly it shows they are not willing to be abused by corrupt power hungry Washington politicians.

It’s really too bad we will never be able to give em a Metal rewarding this kind of good judgment, as that would invariably blow their cover marking em for removal by following administrations.

The Obama DHS guide to groups continued:
“Anarchists”= Friendly, but misguided youth. Never mind the anarchist cookbook and their anti-globalist activities. They are our friends

“Communists”= Friendlies. Especially during antiwar protests. They may protest Obama, but this is because they feel that he is not moving far enough to the left. They are our best allies, however.

Iraq/Afghanistan war Veterans: Consider potential threats.

It is hard to believe, but the Dims and Obama actually believe this.

Hi Cboldt,

Thanks for the note. My wife calls me "Mr. Malaprop", so I'm very apt to screw up this way.

But, I looked it up on the Mirriam-Webster site to make sure, and I don't see how it was wrong:

MOLLIFY transitive verb
1 : to soothe in temper or disposition : appease
2 : to reduce the rigidity of : soften
3 : to reduce in intensity : assuage, temper

Appease would have been a better word, but though clumsy it still seems alright. Maybe I'm missing something?

I appreciate your help.

Maybe I'm missing something. My impression is that the Obama regime is very much in a muslim appeasement mode.

Anyway, the set of definitions you presented for "mollify" are what I had in mind when I commented. "Appease" is a fine substitute for mollify. I still wonder if you meant what you wrote, or if the "not" is an inadvertent typo.

Okay! Now I see what I did:

I wrote: "the regime does not want to mollify the muslims."

What I meant to say was: "the change in terminology was not to mollify the muslims or out of concerns about sensitivity but to establish a broader, hidden agenda..."

I may have intended to write: "does not want just to..."

In any case, it was a garbled response. I apologize, and thanks for letting me explain.
