Exclusive: Meghan McCain Writes that Palin Brought 'Drama, Stress... Panic' to Campaign

Sen. John McCain's Daughter: Sarah Palin's Rise Was 'Too Fast,' 'Too Easy'

Aug. 31, 2010—

For the first time since the end of her father's 2008 presidential bid, Sen. John McCain's daughter Meghan McCain spoke out about Sarah Palin, writing in a new book that Palin brought "drama, stress, complications, panic and loads of uncertainty" to the losing campaign.

Though she writes that during the campaign she wondered if the loss "was Sarah Palin's fault," McCain told "Good Morning America" today in an exclusive interview that Palin was not the reason the campaign failed.

"I do clearly state at the end that we did not lose because of her and I'm speaking out now because I do have conflicting feelings about her," McCain told "GMA's" George Stephanopoulos. "She brought so much momentum and enthusiasm to the campaign."

Before Palin came on board, McCain said she knew drama was brewing.

"I had learned a few things on the campaign already, and knew that change always brought complications and chaos and sometimes a little entertainment. Drama was inevitable on a campaign and created almost out of thin air. Tempers were always flying, and feelings were always being hurt. There was no question that a running mate would add to the confusion and upset. There would be less time for fun," she writes. "But I couldn't have predicted just how serious it was going to get."

McCain admitted that during the campaign she stumbled when asked whether she had doubts about Palin's presence on the ticket and in the book said that Joe Lieberman was her favorite pick.

There was no way in hell I was going to vote for McCain. Then he picked Palin -- so, because of that, I went to the polls in Nov 2008 and I voted for McCain/Palin.

I suspect I am not alone.

Talk about complete projection! Palin actually EARNED her rise by doing things. Meghan had her's handed to her because of who daddy is.

Same here. Since then, I've decided that for me, it's error to vote based on the #2 slot on the ticket.

She is a priceless PR gift for the Progressive Fascist media machine and too stupid to realize it. She is a fat kid nerd who actually thinks “the in crowd finally like me, they really like me”

Poor deluded fool has no clue all they are doing is using her. If her dad had lost in the primary, or does lose in the election, it will be “”Meghan who” to these Leftist propagandists.

I imagine she did bring panic and stress to the McCain “campaign”. There was a time there when it started to look like McCain/Palin had a chance to win. That must have scared the hell out of McCain and his band of RINO boys who were only running for president because it was their turn.

Excerpt from article:

One area where McCain does not stumble in the book is her take on Sarah Palin’s “disastrous” interview with CBS News’ Katie Couric ahead of the vice presidential debate when she couldn’t even state what newspapers she reads.

“Katie Couric’s interview with her before the vice presidential debate had been disasterous. Unhappy with her performance, Palin seemed to blame the interview on the campaign. And she continued to blame other poor interviews and snafus on the campaign too,” McCain writes. “Sarah Palin. She was turning out to be somebody who leaves a wake of confusion and chaos – to the point of dizziness – wherever she went.”

At first, the chaos was overwhelming, McCain said.

“She was not just an overnight success or even a political Cinderella story. She was a sudden, freakishly huge, full-fledged phenomenon. It seemed too much. And it seemed too easy,” McCain writes.

Now, McCain said she respects Palin as “a Republican feminist,” she stopped short of saying she would vote for Palin should the former Alaska governor end up on the 2012 presidential ticket.

“I really don’t like these hypothetical questions... It depends on the situation,” McCain said. “Anything can happen in the primaries... It’s going to be a very interesting election no matter what happens.”

“It’s no secret that I’m so unlike her,” she told “Good Morning America.”

“I do clearly state at the end that we did not lose because of her”

My guess is that after some reflection, Meghan figured out that it might be more plausible to think people voted against McCain because they concluded someone with such a dimwit daughter might not be competent to serve as POTUS, than because he put Palin on the ticket.

Well dang. All this time I figured if anyone had their finger on the pulse of the mccain political campaign, it had to be that strategist extraordinaire meghan mccain.

Speaking of drama, the way her daddy declared that both parties should suspend their campaigns until they could come up with some sort of solution to address the economic meltdown was fricking brilliant.

Dear Meathead McCain: It was the pick of Palin that energized me enough to want to vote for your RINO daddy.

Any drama that happened, happened because the McCain campaign lent no support to Palin to assist in defending against unfounded attacks.

It's almost as if Palin was used as a lightning rod to prevent your daddy from being struck.
