As he winds down one war and escalates another, President Obama is struggling to win over the troops he's leading as commander in chief -- and military advocates say the real test will come as the nation approaches final timelines for withdrawal in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Mr. Obama has earned strong reviews from veterans groups, which praise his willingness to listen and his aggressive funding of the Veterans Affairs Department.
His progress among active-duty service members, however, has been slower. A Military Times poll this year found that a majority disapproved of his leadership as their commander.

Ya think?
This is one Vet that would just as soon spit on him as look at him.
“Mr. Obama has earned strong reviews from veterans groups” OK name them.
Spoke to some fresh faced Marines who weren’t to pleased with their CIC either.
If I were still in, I’d quit....................
I find it interesting that we have a President that is afraid to visit our troops in Iraq or Afghanistan. He’s even afraid to visit our Southern borders to see what is really going on. He can ask our kids to put their lives on the line but won’t do the same for his country.
I’m retired, so I give him the 1 finger salute every time the copters pass over
strong reviews...........doesn’t say which direction............
John Kerry and Wesley Clark’s Obama fan club?
Cindie
Kicking a man who puts his life on the line on a daily basis doesn’t make a lot of friends. Threatening to take away military healthcare doesn’t do much either.
That quivering bowl of worm vomit deserves a one finger salute.
That makes two of us.....
21 dead in past 48 hours
so many families and lives, torn forever ... and for what? the sinkus is double dealing with the saudis to make a deal with the tollybon
The author didn't say which country! lol
Make it three.
It says”strong reviews”, but it doesn’t say positive reviews. Could be strongly negative.
One thing Democrats really need to ask themselves....”Is this President the type of person that you would want protecting your six?” I would think not.
“Spoke to some fresh faced Marines who werent to pleased with their CIC either.”
In this case “CIC” stands for Community organizer In Chief. He’s a maggot of the first order.
Tell those fresh faced Marines that this old Jarhead says: “Semper Fi! We WILL give them a REAL CIC in 2012.” That’s a PROMISE!”
Why would anyone salute a racist commie pile of puke? Ok only if they are muslim..
“That makes two of us.....”
I’ll bet that we are not alone.
I’m not thrilled with too much attention to polls of active duty military. The chain of command does not operate according to opinion and popularity. President Obama is the commander-in-chief until January, 2013 (hopefully) and respect for the American Constitutional tradition of civilian control of the military is much bigger than passing political difference and controversies. I know the military respects this tradition, but I don’t like outsiders agitating the military like it is just another demographic subdivision suitable for polling.
“Mr. Obama has earned strong reviews from veterans groups, which praise his willingness to listen and his aggressive funding of the Veterans Affairs Department. “

And how much of that “aggressive funding” actually benefits the veterans? Or does it go to, say, paying overblown salaries to government workers?
He deserves that and less. Those limp-wristed salutes that he gives the troops when he gets off the helicopter is an insult. Also, I’ve noticed that there hasn’t been a Marine waiting at the foot of the helicopter the last few times 0s disembarked. I’ve noticed there have been other branches. I have no problem with other members of the military, but I thought that this was always a Marine honor? As long as it’s not because 0 has a beef with the Marines, I’m OK with it. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed?
He’s been to both places, IIRC.
three
Maybe a veterans' group with the word "gay" in its name.
Since becoming CIC?

I know the kind of salute that the vast majority of the military would like to give the Dung-Beetle-in-Chief.
Oh, you mean all fingers must be used and not just one? And here I thought we were honoring “The One.”
Veterans groups who would sell their souls to Obama for a larger cut of government cheese deserve our condemnation. The push for constantly expanding veteran’s benefits, especially at the expense of the active duty force and military readiness, is reprehensible. Same thing goes for all those retirees with feigned or exaggerated disabilities who soak the system for all it’s worth. This, in no way, applies to honorable vets who were actually injured in the line of duty.
Ha! My first thought as well.

"Il Douche" should be accorded the "Italian salute"...
Haven’t noticed, but the chopper is called Marine One, isn’t it? Always an AF member at the bottom of the steps on AF1. The Marine was probably too big and scary for The Won.
He deserves a one finger salute..
Spetznatz

Im still in, and I give him the 1 finger salute every time I see him on tv or hear his voice on the radio
Lol!
One sunny day in January, 2013 an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue , where he’d been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, “I would like to go in and meet with President Obama ..”
The Marine looked at the man and said, “Sir, Mr. Obama is no longer president and no longer resides here.”
The old man said, “Okay”, and walked away.
The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, “I would like to go in and meet with President Obama ..”
The Marine again told the man, “Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Obama is no longer president and no longer resides here.”
The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.
The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U.S. Marine, saying “I would like to go in and meet with President Obama ..”
The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, “Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Obama . I’ve told you already that Mr. Obama is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don’t you understand?”
The old man looked at the Marine and said, “Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it.”
The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, “See you tomorrow, Sir.”
...he gets strong reviews from FR, too.
This is the same NObama that wants to make the military members pay for their own health care, have no continuing medical care for their injuries during their time in service, & wants to close all the PX facilities for the families who live on less than the private sector-—much less the government sector of jobs.
NObama hates the military -— don’t believe he cares one little bit. He doesn’t.
That quivering bowl of worm vomit deserves a one finger salute.”
You mean one finger on EACH hand, don’t you?
I am a two-handed saluter of that POS. I am not ambidextrous—I had to learn the skill......:)
My son is active duty US Army with 2 tours in Iraq, one highlighted by helping to negotiate the appropriate surrender of Saddam’s sons. His opinions of obama are unprintable.
What veterans groups supprt him? The ones organized by the Democrats as astroturf?
