Crowd Shows Up To Get Assistance With Energy Bills (Lazy people upset in Cincinnati)
WKRC ^ | 31 Aug 2010 | WKRC

Posted on 08/31/2010 10:08:50 AM PDT by TSgt

Time is running out for people in need to get help paying their summer utility bill. Today is the deadline to apply for aid through the county.

Before 10 a.m., the Community Action Agency let 230 people in to apply. Some lined up before the sun came up this morning at the agency's office in Bond Hill. Applicants can get up to $175 to pay their utility bill, an air conditioner or a fan .. or a combination of benefits.

Some in the line were upset that they couldn't get in or were turned away. But, those in charge of the program say they've had more people apply for help in the last two years than in the history of the program.

Rennia Baird told Local 12, "I came here yesterday but I got turned away. I was the last people and they did the cut off so I go here an hour early this morning."

Robin Avant of the Home Energy Assistance Program says "Unfortunately we have a lot of people that wait until the very last day and we can only take so many people."

Since July, more than 4,100 people have received assistance. This program is funded by the State of Ohio.

A line for getting an air condition for FREE?
Where’s it at?
Sounds better than clipping coupons/sarc

They are shameless tax freeloaders. At least they can thank the productive members of society for this largesse. They should also thank the Chinese worker for subsidizing their habits.

Here’s the funny part.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO STAND IN LINE!

You can apply for the program online via a free computer with free internet access at your local free air conditioned library!

These idiots can’t even do that for themselves!

It may not be fashionable to say but at our church, we have people calling every day looking for help with either food or utility bills, we have only one black family in our town that I know of and they haven’t called yet.

It’s not just a black thing, people of all races are hurting in Obama’s economy.

The two cows at the lower left hand side could create their own 'energy assistance' by limiting themselves to less than five double chili cheeseburgers a day and foregoing Oprah in favor of a short walk.

It doesn’t appear that these poor people are underfed. I bet they have free food in the fridge, as well a micowave, an ac, a car, free oil, section 8 housing, and a big screen tv. Most of them are probably better off than the average woman on ss. Just as long as the American working person keeps on working to give these ingrates a great standard of living.

Anyone receiving government assistance should have their voting rights suspended until they no longer receive said assistance. No one should be able to vote to fatten their wallet at the expense of US taxpayers.

I am willing to say this does not apply to seniors at or over current retirement age. This caveat does NOT apply to those too lazy to work. I have no problem helping those that CANNOT work but I draw the line at those that WILL NOT work.

I totally agree! If you are on gubmit assistance you should not be able to vote until one (1) year after you are no longer on said assistance.

"...it's pitiful what people give you."

Ingrate. A neighbor gave me the TV I have now when her son bought her a flatscreen, and it's not as "nice" as that one, but it's the best I've ever owned. The one good thing I'll say about our disposable society is that what costs $800 today is given away in three years, by some, to make way for the latest and greatest.

Photos from these various give-away events — it is hard to believe that Americans “depend” on the Nanny State to do for them. It is like crowds jostling around the U.N. humanitarian aid trucks for a bag of rice. Whaat?

No! This program if funded by taxes. Nothing is free and the taxpayers are screwed again.

Not only is this funded by taxes, I can guarantee it is not funded exclusively by taxes paid by the citizens of Ohio. It is funded at least in part, if not in whole, by FEDERAL TRANSFER PAYMENTS to states to "help" them pay their welfare recipients, etc.

IOW, we ALL pay for this stuff.

If socialist programs were limited to those each State could pay for based on revenues that State raised, then if a state wanted a 100% welfare society and could pay for it, no problem. But most of these entitlements are subsidized, directly or indirectly, by the federal government. Which means the feds take money from one State and hand it over to other States.

The only way out of this mess is a return to a robust interpretation of the Constitution and the Tenth Amendment.

Excellent Walter Williams thread on this subject:

Does the U.S. Need to Split Along Political Lines?

I submitted an Op-Ed to my local paper and suggested that anyone that had a felon, ex-con or juvenile delinquent living in their house should not be eligible for one cent of public assistance; state, local or fed.

Not published of course. Too controversial I am sure.

Who said it was a black thing? I didn’t.

Look at the pictures, read the comments. Not just the thread you posted but on any thread of this nature, of people looking for help. the strong implication is that black people are looking for freebies.

My point in my original reply was that I live in an overwhelmingly "white" town and people here are hurting too and crying out for help. They call my church on a daily basis asking for food or assistance paying their utility bills.

I fault Obama specifically and liberalism in general for the financial mess we are in. Dodd and Frank should be in jail for their part in creating it, the democratic party going back to at least Roosevelt have made black and poor people "victims".

God has blessed me and my family richly, I hope he does the same for you and yours.

I wonder if the media noticed this was a ‘predominantly black’ gathering

When Beck was asked what he meant by reclaiming the civil rights movement, I wish he had been more clear:

The civil rights movement must be reclaimed by ALL Americans because it was meant to champion equal opportunity and individual liberty.

Instead, after 40 years of Rat racemongering, the "civil rights movement" is now nothing more than a crass, cruel and truly oppressive political agenda that consists of Rat talking points for the Plantation otherwise known as the Welfare State.

The goal of the Chris Matthews/Al Sharpton version of the "civil rights movement" is only this: MORE GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS, MORE GOVERNMENT DEPENDENCY, MORE GENERATIONAL POVERTY. And more pictures of Americans looking like the crowds shoving each other around a U.N. humanitarian aid truck, waiting desperately for a bag of rice.

For Pete's sake, these are Americans! Start acting like it, maybe? And I direct that last comment to my fellow Americans as well as the GOVERNMENT.

I can’t find the link right now, but Walter Williams has proposed that all Americans be entitled to one vote, but that those who pay taxes get a second vote as well.

Sounds radical. Sounds reasonable.
