Democrats face midterm meltdown

Barack Obama’s Democratic party faces a series of dramatic defeats at every level of government in Washington and beyond in the November midterm elections, according to leading analysts and opinion polls.

The University of Virginia’s widely monitored Crystal Ball will on Wednesday forecast sweeping setbacks on Capitol Hill and the loss of a clutch of state governorships on November 2.

EDITOR’S CHOICE Obama struggles to convince voters - Aug-30Obama: Popularity peaks and troughs - Aug-26Opinion: Obama is right on China - Aug-30View from DC videos - Nov-11In depth: The Obama presidency - Aug-06In depth: US states of emergency - Jul-27It follows a Gallup poll that showed the Republicans with a 10 percentage point lead over the Democrats – the widest margin in 68 years. Separately, a University of Buffalo paper has predicted a 51-seat gain for Republicans in November.

The Democrats have a 39-seat majority in the House of Representatives. Many believe Democratic control of the Senate is also at risk.

“Voters are going to deliver a big fat message to President Obama, which he will not want to hear,” said Larry Sabato, who runs Crystal Ball. “The Republican base is at least 50 degrees further to the right than where it was when Newt Gingrich took control of the House in 1994, so we would be looking at two years of absolutely nothing getting done on Capitol Hill.”

The numbers, which threaten Mr Obama with a “wave election” similar to those of 1994 and 2006, when Democrats wrested back control of the House after 12 years, also extend to key states.

According to local polls, Democrats are on course to lose the governorships of traditionally left-leaning states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania and may be vulnerable in Illinois, long a party bastion.

Such is the scale of the expected losses that analysts are already focused on how Mr Obama can turn Republican domination to his advantage in his 2012 re-election race.

Washington is awash with speculation on whether the Republicans will over-reach as Mr Gingrich did in 1995 when Bill Clinton won a stand-off that had resulted in the shutdown of government.

“The political environment for Democrats is now every bit as poisonous as it was for them in 1994 and for Republicans in 2006,” said Charlie Cook, the widely tracked electoral forecaster.

The expected groundswell is driven by the composition of voter turnout, which at about 40 per cent would be significantly lower than the 63 per cent that brought Mr Obama to power. According to polls, likely Republican voters are twice as motivated to vote as Democrats.

That “enthusiasm gap” was on display last weekend at the Tea Party movement’s rally in Washington.

Recent polls show that 61 per cent of Americans “always or usually” live from pay cheque to pay cheque, up from 49 per cent in 2008.

Conservatives need to do more than turn out to vote, as important as that is. We need to work for worthy candidates to get their voters out. We need to knock doors and work phone banks to make this happen. Many candidates esp. in Senate races should have the ability on their website to allow you to make get out the vote calls using your free cell long distance from anywhere in the country. Please make these kinds of efforts and we can make November into a blow-out for Obama and the Dems.

Thanks to the DemocRATS, I think that psychiatrists and the antidepressant manufacturers are going to be the first segments of the economy to begin a recovery. The cops are going to also be busy with all of the death threats coming from the “tolerant” left.

Folks, “MissesBush” hits the nail right on the head!!! We are fighting for our country, our future, our freedom, our opportunity and....the same things for all American generations to come. One specific fact is quite plain and evident for all to see and understand. The Democrat Party must be totally destroyed at the ballot box on November 2, 2010!!! We must strive to defeat every single Democrat running for office!!! There is no such thing as a good, loyal or decent Democrat!!! And....stop goofing around, this is truly a war for survival of the USA!!! Tomorrow is September 1, 2010!!! Forget the positive and optimistic rants and raves of Sean Hannity as to how he feels our side will take down the Democrat Party big time. As the Yankee catcher, Yogi Berra likes to say, “It not over till it’s over!!!” We must start telling our side beginning tomorrow morning, every day, every posting to vote on election day and get “everyone” on our side to the polls on November 2, 2010. When you vote to destroy the entire Democrat Party, you are voting for the freedom and opportunity of your children, grandchildren and all future American children to come. “REMEMBER NOVEMBER” VOTE ON NOVEMBER 2, 2010!!!

I’m taking bets on whether the republicans will have the balls to carry the momentum after the elections.

Washington is awash with speculation on whether the Republicans will over-reach as Mr Gingrich did in 1995 when Bill Clinton won a stand-off that had resulted in the shutdown of government.

In the fifteen years since that occurred, everyone with a brain (i.e., everyone but democrats) has come to realize that shutting down the government is not necessarily a bad thing.

Thanks for the support JLAGRAY! You put it better than I did. This isn’t a fight to “put Republicans back in power.” It is a fight to end the assault upon our country and its values by the most radical bunch of left wingers to ever blight this nation’s government. We need to look at it in those terms and not purely partisan terms. Yes it happens to be Republicans who are going to be the tool of overturning this cabal and their abuses, but it’s a bigger calling than simply returning a political party to power. It’s about returning power to the people of this country. We must get everyone we know registered to vote then work for worthy candidates to get their voters motivated and to the polls. Just voting is good. Getting others to vote is great. This is going to take an all-hands on deck effort.

We take back the house in Nov, then have the judiciary committee demand Obama present them his birth certificate.........impeach him if he doesn’t or can’t. Then the new repub speaker ascends to the presidency, then Chris Matthews and his ilk go suicidal...........

****************

Short term they will, out of sheer fear for their jobs.

Then the subtle and insidious corruption will start creeping in again. This time, we need to bug stomp them the INSTANT that starts. We were played, which was their fault, but we were also gullible and complacent - which is ours.

Term limits can solve a lot of that non-sense.

But, when ever will lawyers vote themselves less power?

“I’ll take some good old fashioned gridlock rather than what we’ve got now.”

Here's a thought. Patriots in the CIA, FBI, NSA must now have bulging (bursting?) files on Obama. If the GOP can take control, why not open investigations on all the dirty laundry Obama has paid millions to suppress from the electorate?

Pelosi can call a moving company and she can pack her boxes. She will be vacating the Speaker’s Office. Many of the RAT and RINO offices will have to be cleaned by a fumigation company. I’m sure the stench is offending to whomever will occupy the office next.

“Voters are going to deliver a big fat message to President Obama, which he will not want to hear,” said Larry Sabato, who runs Crystal Ball.

Funny, it seems like just yesterday that Sabato said the GOP was going to come up short in retaking the House.

Ok, I admit, it was really last week

And he threw in a scummy caveat that "We're going to be revising that all the way to Nov. 2." in order to cover all his bases.
