Artist Builds Backyard Survival Shelter, Homemade Shotgun Robot
asylum.com ^ | 8/31/10 | Michael B. Dougherty

Posted on 08/31/2010 8:18:59 PM PDT by Kartographer

Artist Chad Person wasn't about to sit idly by and wait for the coming robot-zombie apocalypse, so he dug up his Albuquerque, N.M., backyard and built himself a custom survival shelter.

Dubbed RECESS (Resource Exhaustion Crisis Evacuation Safety Shelter), Person's project isn't some wonky, conceptual-art stunt, but a genuine reaction to these uncertain times, just like the growing Prepper Movement.

"The short answer is fear. Just purely fear," says Person when Asylum asked him why he spends his weekends designing bulletproof doors. Person had recently achieved the adult trifecta of wife-baby-house and found his protective instincts kicking into high gear -- so he decided to replace the pool with something a bit more useful.

"After a little while of careful thought, it really made logical sense to turn it into a bunker where I could store water and resources and food and weapons," says Person.

Keep reading to get an underground tour and learn how to make your own robot shotgun sentry.

In five years, with a folding table and a few folding chairs, it’ll make a nice rec room.

If he hadn't advertised what he was doing he would have been able to wait for the dust to settle and then moved into Bill Murry's house.

LOL

If you’re serious about survival, you don’t set in ‘the back yard.’ His PC pipe bow and ‘pipe guns’ and the rest would slow invaders down, for sure = for about 5 minutes - maybe.

pitiful

I'd like to see 'quick kits' for pool conversions.

Lots of us in Florida have pools, but few have basements. Hiding from radiation is best done underground - and swimming pools could be converted in days with the right stuff...

DON’T TRY THAT AT YOUR HOME!

Tell your Liberal ‘friends’ to do that, but do realize that the soil loads will collapse the sides in most soil conditions.

And don’t even think of burying the roof underground.

Most of the parts can be directly - even the barrel (with a spacer) exchanged - the receiver is machined from a solid steel billet.

Weigh a ton, but they shoot pretty sweet... or (koff, koff) so I have heard from ‘friends’.

His largest mistake is that he told everybody about it. Unless he built a second shelter and this first shelter is a diversion. LOL

With no formal background in construction, Person wheeled in 20 yards of cement by hand to pour the bunker's 6-inch-thick, concrete rebar roof.

Tragically, a cat walked on top of the amateur-poured roof, causing it to cave in, and crushed Person instantly.

Ironically, the zombies outside of the shelter were unharmed.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Ummm, if our ever so loving tolerant liberal government decides to take away our guns and escort us to 'camps'... we'll have an alternative... a cheap easy alternative.
