Sen. Lisa Murkowski's Democratic colleague from Alaska, Mark Begich, released a statement around midnight Wednesday praising the ousted Republican for her service to the state hours after she conceded defeat to primary challenger Joe Miller.

Begich — the former mayor of Anchorage who defeated Ted Stevens in 2008 — called Murkowski a "friend" and complimented the Republican for her "great energy and considerable grace," adding that the two politicians agreed consistently on issues related to Alaska.

On what issues did they disagree?

The stats I saw was that she voted with the Rats almost 60% of the time and that's exactly why she lost.

I noticed ole Scotty Brown is laying real low right now.

You wont be thanking her when she tries for your seat in 2014. You can bet she will.

The only third party able to field a candidate in Alaska is the Libertarian party, and they don’t want her.

That's the problem right there.

That’s good to know.

Maybe she will pull a ‘Specter’ and switch parties.

Trying to lure her anti-Miller, RINO supporters to vote DEMRAT, while they are still angry with the primary result.

Libertarians won’t touch her with a 10 foot fishing pole.

My guess is she will try for being governor in a few years, she has family money to get it.

Unless Alaskans feel otherwise.

Could be. I was thinking he might be sucking up for her direct support.

“Brown has been hanging out with good hair Kerry lately.”

Yeah, know what you mean. But, Brown is about as far to the right as we're liable to get from Massachusetts. At least he brings an additional R to the senate headcount.

Interesting side note. Begich father was lost in an Alaska plane crash that killed Boggs. The plane has never been found.

You have that right! There was no difference between the two, no respect for the Constitution and the rights of a free people, Begich has to go next.

I predict Sarah Palin will fill the begich senate seat in 4 years. No one had paid attention to this. SP fronted Joe Miller and he won (some say in spite of her endorsement). I don’t think Sarah really has any White House ambitions. However she would fit in nicely as a senator from the great state of Alaska and in four years it will take some doing to unseat the usurper begich. I think the only one who can do it is SP. The day begich gets pay back for what he and the corrupt justice department did to Ted Stevens will be revenge served cold.

And over 25 years later the younger Begich defeated Ted Stevens, who died in a plane crash less than two years after that. Alaskans have to fly everywhere, in all sorts of weather, and I guess it shouldn’t surprise us that so many Alaska politicians die in plane crashes.

Oh, and the man who replaced Begich in Congress 30 years ago, Don Young, is still Alaska’s sole Representative. I’m surprised that Begich didn’t run against Young instead of against Stevens in 2008.

And it made clear to me why Stevens wanted that bridge.

Imagine having to fly off your island in an emergency and the weather is not cooperating.

We allowed the msm to destroy Stevens when even the US Justice Dept. failed. Too late of course, for Stevens to win his senate seat again.

We will see if Begich loses his re election bid when the time comes.

Stevens was being held hostage in D.C. by the US Justice Dept. with their phony investigation. Of course, the D.C. jury found him guilty but the case was thrown out due to prosecutorial misconduct.

THings are a tad more complex than that.

UP to the day before the election, Lisa was polling 30+ point s ahead of Miller.

What the polls failed to take into account was Prop 2 - and abortion related issue.

How many - who rarely vote except for this single issue vote for Miller (pro-life) because the initiave on the ballot?

It would seem enuf for Lisa to lose.

“Single issue” voters - mostly abortion related in my experiance - are a large enuf block to swing an election in small political entities (city, counry and Alaska).

Glad I have lots of popcorn, the following ad battles could be - interesting.

"Interesting side note. Begich father was lost in an Alaska plane crash that killed Boggs. The plane has never been found."

If I remember correctly, Nick Begich and Ted Stevens started their political careers at roughly the same time. That they have both perished in plane crashes just illustrates the small population and the number of airmiles flown in Alaska. But still kind of interesting...

You are much faster than I am, so I concede to you! (see #31) I lived in Juneau when Begich was first campaigning, and remember seeing his signs everywhere.
