ED SCHULTZ, MSNBC ANCHOR:
Here`s something interesting though, and I find it interesting that this story is breaking today that we`re down here. You see, these folks are here because Washington has basically let them down.
The decision-makers who had the power to decide Americans should get universal health care got richer, while the rest of the country got a lot poorer in this recession. “The Hill” newspapers has published the top 50 richest lawmakers in Washington. I think it`s gross.
Look at this. Lawmakers are making millions. The top 50 were worth almost $1.4 billion in 2009 alone.
Now, these are lawmakers that wouldn`t push for a public option, let alone, well, they wouldn`t even put universal health care on the table. So we ended up passing a health care bill. And in the end, it`s not coming fast enough and it`s not affecting enough people soon enough. But, you know, they sure have been pretty fast to cut the endless checks to fund a deadly war, haven`t they?.......(clip)
Basic health care in the United States of America should not have to depend on the volunteers and MSNBC viewer donations. And Glenn Beck can go out there and talk all he wants and lecture us all he wants about how we need to restore honor in this country. I`ll tell you how to restore honor in this country — do something for these folks. Make sure that every American has health care in this country.
The folks behind me, they deserve a heck of a lot better. All of us do, but we have basically gutted our infrastructure for what happened in Iraq. And I hope the president tonight reminds all of the country that we were told by Mr. Wolfowitz that Iraqi oil was going to be paying for all of this.
Who is going to be paying for this? You are.
We still have a for-profit health care system in this country, and it`s not getting any better. In fact, it`s getting worse.

Later Ed goes on to interview Anthony Weiner on Democrats and mid-term elections
SCHULTZ: Congressman, don`t you think that democrats have to explain to the American people what you`re going to do if you keep the majority? I mean, the silence I think has been deafening. I realize everybody is home in their district and what not, but the fact is the democrats have not been out there on the national platform and September and October, it would seem to me, that the democrats are going to have to explain, OK, this is the way the world is going to turn if we stay in the majority, pick and choose. Do you think they have done a good job of that so far?
WEINER: I don`t think, we`ve done a very good job at all and I think the part of the problem is we have not explained to the American people what I think intuitively they`re going to get to between now and the first Tuesday in November. And this is a choice between two platforms. And let`s look at what the republican platform is. As little we`ve heard of it, we know a couple of things for sure. We know that they plan on privatizing Social Security. We know that because it`s right in that book that you talked about earlier. We know, for example, that they have said over and over again, they are against the financial reforms so imagine that they are going to try to deregulate Wall Street. We know where that got us.
WEINER: We know, for example, that they have said that they are in favor of extending tax cuts, for get this, billion airs, but opposed the stimulus bill which had tax cuts for the middle class. So, if we can make that a choice, then we`re going to do just fine in these elections because the American people respect the idea that they want to know what they are choosing, not just what they are against.
SCHULTZ: And quickly, congressman, are you worried about democratic turnout in the mid-term? I mean, are you afraid that there`s going to be a lackluster attitude out there?
WEINER: Yes, frankly, I am. I need a little bit of that Obama magic dust to be sprinkled on the electorate like it was in 2008. We need the president out there.
Ed needs an extented say with Nurse Ratchet!
RE: Health care is getting WORSE in THIS country not better
And is Canada’s or the UK’s getting any better ?
Look at the last comment about needing Obama out there campaigning to win the 2010 midterms. It doesnt get better than this.
What he really means is "The decision-makers who had the power to decide some Americans should be enslaved, to work for free, so that others can get health care for free."
Watch the spin on this. The MSM is going to blame the insurance companies and say they are doing it to make money now. There will be a smear campaign leveled against the insurance companies to effect that they are soaking people now to make a quick buck.
In case anyone misplaced their LIB decoder ring
middle class = non-working minorities
If Ed’s talking about “mental health” he’s a prime example.
I wish I could remember where I read it, but it is my understanding that countries with universal health care, such as Canada, England, and other European countries, only have 92% of it's citizens enrolled. In other words, "universal health care", will never be universal.
I also remember reading somewhere that our health care system, prior to ObamaCare, had about 85% of the population covered. Does anyone really think it costs as much as has been spent for ObamaCare, to cover just another 7% of our population?
That is why politically regulation/mandates is safer than actual socialism. In socialism everyone knows that the government is at fault. In regulation/mandates they can force insurance companies to charge me for a unrelated woman's childbirth (as Obama-care does) and then claim the increase is due to greed and profits. Obviously the only way to fix this is the ‘public plan’ and the CBO will help with more phony numbers.
It is our job to make sure Obama owns the bad news. That hapless GWB passed his bills with democrat support yet still got the blame for all the bad news. So how can democrats think they can get away with blaming others when their bills were democrat only?
The regulations that Obama is creating are not simple logical extensions of the bill. The Senate’s bill gave the president a lot of leeway to the point that Obama is in effect creating new legislation himself. Since they have the force of law, he is, in effect, passing new laws. This is quasi unconstitutional.
The solution if for congress to pass a new law that all regulations must be approved by congress before they take effect. That would end this socialism and make congress accountable for the laws as the founders intended.
Giving us forewarning, The large company I work for has announced that because our Health Care Plan falls under definition of a Cadillac plan, their cost will go up 40% so to expect our out-of pocket cost to go up as they pass that cost on to us. We heard the news in our group meeting, and I heard a couple of Liberals in the group grumbling, one saying “damn Obamacare”.
The only sensible thing Ed has said recently is when he said, “I’m going to torch this [bleep]ing place”. Too bad he didn’t.
Great idea!
You should be Republican leader of the House or Senate, I don't hear anything that coherent from McConnell or Boehner!.
The fact that a lunatic like this can still run loose on the streets is proof of his claim.
I think we will have to force it down their throats as “make congress accountable for the laws as the founders intended and “McConnell or Boehner” doesn’t seem to go together.
