HOUSTON (Reuters) - A federal judge in New Orleans rejected on Wednesday the U.S. government's request to dismiss a lawsuit challenging its original 6-month deepwater drilling moratorium.
Hornbeck Offshore Services Inc and other oil companies sued the government when it first ordered a halt to deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico in May after BP Plc's well rupture that killed 11 workers and caused the world's worst offshore spill.

Obama’s brilliance on display.
As with the auto industry. Manufacturers aren’t selling enough cars. He takes over GM and Chrysler and then shuts down dealerships and the sales people are fired.
Obamawisdom on parade.
By closing off the deep water drilling he exposed the Gulf to more danger of a spill than if he had let the drilling continue.
Carefully inspecting the rigs one by one would have been a much safer way to progress.
No one tells O, he knows it all.
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list

Ha! How 'bout them apples?
Let me guess: In response to the news, a disappointed President Obama issued a new executive order banning drilling in the gulf.
Doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of difference to the Obama regime. They just ignore anything they want to, like the Law, the Constitution, or a Federal Judges ruling.
Louisiana and Texas - please secede from the union and withhold your oil. We will join you later.
Equivalent knee-jerk reaction: A Pinto is rear-ended and blows up, so all cars are banned for six months.
What part of “no” doesn’t the administration understand?
Obama will appeal it and then make sure a leftist progressive judge hears the case.
The big Zero maybe should be called The King of Unemployment -- the Loser of American Jobs
Next stop: the UN
“Let me guess: In response to the news, a disappointed President Obama issued a new executive order banning drilling in the gulf.”
LOL...and sadly, probably true.
“and caused the world’s worst offshore spill.”
Was this really the worst? Has everything living died in the gulf?
I think that statement is debatable.
“Was this really the worst? Has everything living died in the gulf?
I think that statement is debatable.”
Yeah, good point.
What part of “NO!” doesn’t this stupid f——r get?
Doesn’t matter.
Still not granting any permits.
Any applications to drill are balled up in the “approval” process and going through endless cycles of review and questions and adjustment and interpretation of the new rules (which by the way I consider illegal since there has been no comment period).
The bureaucrats in BOEM / MMS or whatever they call themselves will not stick their necks out one inch because they have had their phony baloney jobs threatened byt he administration / Salizar.
Hate to be a party pooper, but under the Seperation of Powers Clause, Obama has no control over the assignment of Judges, which in the Fifth Circuit, will come from Mississipi, Louisiana, and Texas. The litigants will not even know which three judges will be assigned to the panel to hear the appeal until a few days before oral argument, and indeed, the chief clerk who assigns the panel of judges will not even know who will hear the appeal until the case is fully briefed and ready for oral argument.
Good news! With other things Obama always SEEMS to win in the end with a liberal democratic appointed judge.
"We will join you now!" -Mississippi and Alabama
Yep...unfortunately true.
“...interpretation of the new rules (which by the way I consider illegal since there has been no comment period).”
Interesting- I wasn’t aware that they haven’t had a comment period. I thought that was required, too.
It doesn’t matter. Obama, et al, will just keep appealing which means they get the same results as the moratorium.
Drilling has already started to move since they can’t just sit there and do nothing.

As U.S. suspends deep-water oil drilling, other nations move ahead
Shut down the productive industries, and then hook up all the displaced workers to government welfare. That’s Obama’s vision for America. Successful, private industry is to be maligned. Only subsidized, government approved industry is ok. Outright government ownership is even better!
Did you see one? All I saw was NTL... which does not reqire a comment period but I think we have new rules and that has always required a notice of proposed rule making with a comment period etc.
Color me crazy but that is what I recall from the last 20 years or more.
Yeah boy. All those on welfare and unemployment will be standing in line to buy the $41,000 Chevy Dolt. It will be just like the i-pad, with people paying more than list price. /s
“Something is happening here, but you don’t know what it is. Do you Mr. Zero?”
Brilliant idea!
That says it all. That is Obama’s and the progressive liberals common sense explained in a cartoon.
This one was not created by Lester, but also is one of my favorites:
And yet Obama’s war on Southern Jobs continues unabated.

Nope...not crazy at all. I found a great blog article that examines what they’ve quietly been up to (”MMS And Public Transparency - Clear As Drilling Mud”):
“My colleague Michael Jasny and I have blogged recently on the ways in which the Minerals Management Service (MMS) has manipulated and misused the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to avoid public scrutiny of its leasing and permitting decisions.
As much as we had to say to that end unfortunately, it still gets worse. MMS own internal rulemaking is too often shrouded from the public...
...A quick scan of the current NTLs indicates that MMS will sometimes use these as a substitute for actual regulations. In other words, theyre using this process to quietly make new rules that require less scrutiny...
We can find another example of MMS setting standards without public review when it comes to the enforcement of its Safety and Environmental Management Program (SEMP). MMS describes SEMP as a nontraditional, performance-focused tool for integrating and managing offshore operations. The purpose of SEMP is to enhance the safety and cleanliness of operations by reducing the frequency and severity of accidents...”
Read the whole thing if you haven’t seen it before. So much for “transparency”:

That is an option.
We’ll resume our program, “Obama Eats a Giant Sh!t Sandwich”, right after this message from British Petroleum.
Thanks Qbert.
Since he has done it twice (?) already, I would not put it past him. The judge needs to tell them that if they do it again, someone is going to jail for contempt of court.
Where is their oil spill now?
But for nothing, Obama bans the offshore oil drilling, which hurts the economy and destroys not 23,000 jobs but hundreds of thousands of jobs in Louisiana.
“Did you see one? All I saw was NTL... which does not reqire a comment period but I think we have new rules and that has always required a notice of proposed rule making with a comment period etc...”
On second thought...the blog article I just referenced was from a lefty environmental group- so just a heads up. Just realized that now; I should’ve checked them out first.
(I think they’re ultimately driving at the usual allegation that MMS has “lax regulation and is catering to oil companies”, etc., etc., but it had some info on this particular issue that seemed useful.)
I’m still waiting for Obama to ban egg farming in Iowa if he is to be logically consistent.
“Louisiana and Texas - please secede from the union and withhold your oil. We will join you later.”
“We will join you now!” -Mississippi and Alabama”
Abso-freaking-lutely! There are many support jobs on the line...not to mention those who live in AL, MS and FL who work on the rigs.
One thing I don’t get...why do people think all oil workers live in LA and TX? The fact is, they can live anywhere they want to live!
True. But Iowa voted for him.
We will too, when we get back from the beach. - Florida.
It’s not that those states are the only ones with oil workers. It’s that they have most of the domestic oil reserves outside of Alaska and California. It just might get the attention of the Feds if that oil were to suddenly stop flowing to them.
Do not forget, Obamessiah clearly stated his intent to Fundamentally Transform.
What saddens me further is my expectation that the Pubbies, should they acquire congressional majorities, will decline to dismantle Obamessiah’s dictatorship by Executive Order.
And with only a simple majority.
It is all this unfair criticism of Republicans and lies of the liberal media which has decimated the Republicans in Congress so much so that the socialists/democrats have total power.
Republicans in their ONLY short reign with only a simple majority stopped Clinton from doing many things including government healthcare, put 2 conservative justices on the Supreme Court, built up the military,2 tax cuts in 2001 and 2003, stopped Amnesty for illegals, stopped global warming legislation ,impeached lady Clinton, etc.
But all I hear is bashing of Republicans when it is the socialists, AKA the democrats who are destroying America.
I admire George Dubya immensely, but he declined to veto EVEN ONE appropriation bill. I have speculated that this was the price he had to pay for bringing the Dems along in funding the battles against the brutal Saddam Hussein regime and Islamic terrorists generally, but that’s pure speculation on my part. Also, Dubya had too much admiration for Mexico and a blind spot regarding the ongoing alien invasion from the south.
If Republicans are again granted governing powers, they had damned well better do the RIGHT THINGS this time.
Oh they will. After all, their families will still have to stay home and face the angry citizenry if the congresscritters fail to do so. Furthermore, with the judiciary in full blown rebellion mode against the Obama regime, I do not doubt that things will change for the better. Arizona is already taking charge and dealing with it and I am sure that other states will follow suit.
Hussein lost in court to stop drilling this week, and lo and behold, another explosion. Hmm.
The Supreme Court is a toss-up, on the very brink of being an enabler of the Soocialist Fundamental Transformer and his appointed coterie of Progressive/Socialist/Communist advisors/executive administrators.
Judge Rules Against Government on Drilling Halt
and then a platform explodes today.
Suspicious?
You tell me.
