HOUSTON (Reuters) - A federal judge in New Orleans rejected on Wednesday the U.S. government's request to dismiss a lawsuit challenging its original 6-month deepwater drilling moratorium.

Hornbeck Offshore Services Inc and other oil companies sued the government when it first ordered a halt to deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico in May after BP Plc's well rupture that killed 11 workers and caused the world's worst offshore spill.

Louisiana and Texas - please secede from the union and withhold your oil. We will join you later.

"We will join you now!" -Mississippi and Alabama

Yep...unfortunately true.

“...interpretation of the new rules (which by the way I consider illegal since there has been no comment period).”

Interesting- I wasn’t aware that they haven’t had a comment period. I thought that was required, too.

It doesn’t matter. Obama, et al, will just keep appealing which means they get the same results as the moratorium.

Drilling has already started to move since they can’t just sit there and do nothing.

Shut down the productive industries, and then hook up all the displaced workers to government welfare. That’s Obama’s vision for America. Successful, private industry is to be maligned. Only subsidized, government approved industry is ok. Outright government ownership is even better!

Did you see one? All I saw was NTL... which does not reqire a comment period but I think we have new rules and that has always required a notice of proposed rule making with a comment period etc.

Color me crazy but that is what I recall from the last 20 years or more.

Yeah boy. All those on welfare and unemployment will be standing in line to buy the $41,000 Chevy Dolt. It will be just like the i-pad, with people paying more than list price. /s

Nope...not crazy at all. I found a great blog article that examines what they’ve quietly been up to (”MMS And Public Transparency - Clear As Drilling Mud”):

“My colleague Michael Jasny and I have blogged recently on the ways in which the Minerals Management Service (MMS) has manipulated and misused the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to avoid public scrutiny of its leasing and permitting decisions.

As much as we had to say to that end – unfortunately, it still gets worse.  MMS’ own internal rulemaking is too often shrouded from the public...

...A quick scan of the current NTLs indicates that MMS will sometimes use these as a substitute for actual regulations. In other words, they’re using this process to quietly make new rules that require less scrutiny...
We can find another example of MMS setting standards without public review when it comes to the enforcement of its “Safety and Environmental Management Program” (SEMP).  MMS describes SEMP as “a nontraditional, performance-focused tool for integrating and managing offshore operations. The purpose of SEMP is to enhance the safety and cleanliness of operations by reducing the frequency and severity of accidents...”

Read the whole thing if you haven’t seen it before. So much for “transparency”:

Since he has done it twice (?) already, I would not put it past him. The judge needs to tell them that if they do it again, someone is going to jail for contempt of court.

This “spill” was nothing but a liberal media LIE . A lie just like their “global warming lie”, both designed to destroy the oil industry and capitalism.

Where is their oil spill now?

But for nothing, Obama bans the offshore oil drilling, which hurts the economy and destroys not 23,000 jobs but hundreds of thousands of jobs in Louisiana.

On second thought...the blog article I just referenced was from a lefty environmental group- so just a heads up. Just realized that now; I should’ve checked them out first.

(I think they’re ultimately driving at the usual allegation that MMS has “lax regulation and is catering to oil companies”, etc., etc., but it had some info on this particular issue that seemed useful.)

I’m still waiting for Obama to ban egg farming in Iowa if he is to be logically consistent.

“We will join you now!” -Mississippi and Alabama”

Abso-freaking-lutely! There are many support jobs on the line...not to mention those who live in AL, MS and FL who work on the rigs.

One thing I don’t get...why do people think all oil workers live in LA and TX? The fact is, they can live anywhere they want to live!
