Unemployment is hovering around 9.6%, our national debt is over $13 trillion, one-in-six Americans are receiving some type of government help, and Barack Obama just wrapped his sixth vacation in less than two years as President.
It was a waterfront vacation in Martha’s Vineyard that cost around $50,000 for the rental property alone. (This doesn’t count the cost of staff, of Secret Service protection, or the transport and fuel for the 20-vehicle caravan that traveled with the President all over the island.)
If a sixth vacation of this magnitude seems a bit pretentious to you, you’re not alone. Even David Letterman, the decidedly liberal host of the “Late Night Show,” thought the trip so ostentatious at a time like this that he said: “[Obama will] have plenty of time for vacations after his one term is up."
Letterman is right on the mark here. With AP polls showing that 56% of voters disapprove of the way Obama has handled the economy, he’s courting political disaster by continuing his smug trek from beach house to golf course to beach house again, during a summer when many Americans didn’t even get one vacation. (Nor is Obama’s image helped by the fact that he has played more rounds of golf in less than two years than President George W. Bush did in two whole terms.)
But this is a teachable moment: For we have to understand that “hope and change” was every bit the façade that Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin warned us it would be. Obama doesn’t care about the plight of the average Joe anymore than he cared about the plight of the now-famous “Joe the Plumber.”
This is because Obama is part of the ruling class. As such, he is literally against the people. And his wife is right there with him (she may actually be more smug than he).
Who, but the wife of a member of the ruling class, could take a $375,000 European vacation at time when the American people suffer as they now do? Moreover, who but the haughtiest of ruling class members could do so knowing that the American taxpayer was going to be stuck holding tab?
I’m aware that the Obama has tried to lessen the criticism hurled at Mrs. Obama by announcing that she would pay for all “personal expenses” out of pocket, but, as with Martha’s Vineyard, that doesn’t include the cost of staff, Secret Service, etc. In fact, estimates place the cost of simply flying Michelle and her entourage to Spain and back at $178,000, and that’s $178,000 which taxpayers are going to pay.
There’s always been a strong hint of entitlement swirling around Mr. and Mrs. Obama. Now that the media has crammed picture after picture of the first family’s sixth vacation down our throats, the hint is so strong as to become repugnant.
We the people have been duped. There is no hope and change. There is only the growing feeling of a Carter-like malaise that threatens to overtake the American people even as “Obama the most merciful” plans his seventh vacation.
I haven’t taken a vacation in six years. I guess I’m due one. Hmmmm.
Carter-like malaise, yes, but if memory serves, at least Carter was a cheap-skate with respect to his own expenditures. As bad a president as he was, and he’s among the worst, I don’t remember him taking extravagant vacations. I could be wrong about that, but I don’t remember his presidency being like zero’s with respect to lavish vacations, personal expenditures or ostentation.
Although I detested Jimmy Carter, I remember Roslynn Carter as being a rather attractive, humble, modest and gracious woman, none of which can be said for that arrogant, haughty, egocentric, ugly, gawky, bitter, chip-on-shoulder, knuckle-dragging, ill-mannered, oafish, drunken, racist sow in the White House now.

He is all about the trappings of the presidency.
Wrap him in ermine, stick him on a throne -- he would think it no more than his due.
It rounds out his narcissism and intellectual arrogance.
Having never had to actually produce anything of value in the real world (beyond a cabal organized for parasitic draining of national resources), he's totally certain he knows best how to run it.
Let Obama spend ALL his time on vacation. It’s way cheaper than what it costs us when he’s working.
While I’m at it- let’s let the whole of Congress take an extended fact-finding junket to Aruba. For the remainder of their terms. Let them live it up on our dime.
Look what they do when they’re at ‘work’. It’d be much cheaper and better for our liberty to have them there than here at work.
6 vacations is more than I’ve taken in 7 years of marriage. The country is at 18% unemployment and underemployment and he’s eating lobster and shrimp and sending his wife off like a Sheik’s wife to Spain to shop and eat. Michelle Obama brought her friends along for the ride (at what cost?).
The “Ruling Class” meme I believe is a very powerful one, even our debilitated America. People hate knowing there is a “Ruling Class” with perks.

I remember one visit by President Bush to this area. His motorcade had about half a dozen vehicles, not counting a couple local and State Police vehicles.
We both needed to use up some vacation time because we weren't taking it except for a day here and there when we needed time to do personal business.
In our household, we also refer to those above Reid, like Soros, as “The Owners”.

I think the right really needs to work the Michelle Antoinette meme. It reinforces her “let them eat cake” attitude and it sticks.

It’s true, as bad as Carter was, there was none of the in your face disrespect that the Obamas show to the American people. Rosalyn was a modest, trim, well dressed woman, I don’t remember ever resenting her presence in the White House. Carter himself tried to do away with the imperial trappings, insisting on walking down Pennsylvania avenue after the inaugaration. I found it hard to dislike Carter as president even though I knew he was making the situation worse everyday. As for the Obamas, I get a sick feeling in my stomach every time I think of either of them. I can easily imagine Michelle in her absurd clothes leaving the White House when it’s all over and giving us all the finger and yelling, “Honkey suckers, how did it feel?”
The pure, awesome obscenity of these vile, insulting vacations during the worst recession since the Great Depression is beyond belief. More than anything else it shows the Obamas' absolute contempt and hatred for America and the American people. A minuscule sense of decency would have induced them to vacation and party modestly, simply to show their concern for the terrible times Americans are going through. Instead, they deliberately and with mocking, cackling, ecstatic joy poke sticks covered with fresh dog shit in our eyes and faces. Never has there been a more totally vile, contemptible first couple.
She was nothing of the kind. She was a mean spirited woman who glared at everyone and everything. Had no taste either.
I can’t tell you what I really think of her. I’ll get banned. :)
