The Big Bang was the result of the inevitable laws of physics and did not need God to spark the creation of the Universe, Stephen Hawking has concluded.
In his latest book, The Grand Design, an extract of which is published in Eureka magazine in The Times, Hawking said: Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist.
It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the Universe going.
In June this year Prof Hawking told a Channel 4 series that he didn't believe that a "personal" God existed. He told Genius of Britain: "The question is: is the way the universe began chosen by God for reasons we can't understand, or was it determined by a law of science? I believe the second. If you like, you can call the laws of science 'God', but it wouldn't be a personal God that you could meet, and ask questions."

So, why is there a law such as gravity? Mr Hawking is a smart man (although not a wise one) and he has succeeded in pushing back the boundaries of "starting points" more than most. But he has not explained everything. There is always a "why".
Someday he will meet his maker and answer for his arrogance.
Yeah, unless he came on the job site and pounded those nails personally- HE wasn't needed.
Where did the forces come from that enabled this "spontaneous creation"? Gravity created itself?
Does this kind of intellectual laziness pass for "science" these days?
There was no chicken, just the egg said a different way.
One day science will have answered all the questions in the universe except one.
And then they will refuse to answer that one remaining question because it will prove beyond doubt that God exists.
And God will laugh.
Why would the universe bother to create itself.
gee, I could have said it that way!
1 Cor 15:52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
Ah, the highly underrated Billy Preston.
Anyone who's read A Short History of Time knows that.
I am sure that God laughed at him for such a thought!
What the f&^% is the universe (or anything else for that matter) WITHOUT the consciousness of man?
Hey, ALL paths lead to God...
yes, they certainly do.
All but one path leads to God as JUDGE,
and that one narrow path leads to God as Savior.
There. Fixed it!
And here I thought Hawking was intelligent.
Romans 1 will help explain your thinking...
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools
Hawking has no more insight into questions like that then any random guy on the street.
