Question. Can "We" as citizens call for impeachment of the President and can we do it by ballot?
I know the Senate and House have procedures to do so - but - can we as citizens bypass them and demand impeachment by ballot or other more expedient means.
Would love to find someone who is more knowledgeable on the ins and outs of impeachment.
I would love to get your two cents on this subject but meanwhile if there are any constitutional scholars who know of other methods of getting rid of this "dolt", I would love to explore the possibilities.

An alternative (possibly dangerous) would be to move your state legislature to petition congress to call a constitutional convention. But once the convention is called, the delegates could do whatever they want.
Uh, OK well then maybe you have "heard" of the Electoral College. However, if you want them to "referee any elections that were constitutional" then you need to read up on it because you are apparently mistaken on what the Elector's function is in our form of Government.
Here is a clue for you, We are called "The United STATES of America" not the "United People of America".
We are a Constitutional Republic we rule by Law not by the whim of the people. This is why many keep reciting the old adage about: "Elections have consequences" one of which is that you are stuck with a President for at least 4 years unless he is found guilty of "high crimes and misdemeanors"...

The Constitution clearly spells out the process and requirements for impeachment:
Article II, Section 4:
The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.
Article I, Section 3:
The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.
Judgment in Cases of Impeachments shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust, or Profit under the United States, but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment, and Punishment, according to Law.
Got it ... these are the requirements in the Constitutional Republic we know as The United States of America.

Does anyone know whether a state, or a county, has made any new laws about showing the “officials” the credentials of the individuals on the ballot under their jurisdiction??
We need to have this teed up at the midterm ballot box to preclude a non birth certificate poseur from ever being elected again!

Yeah OK first a Constitutional Convention was proposed upthread AND as shown it would literally take years if not decades which by then Obama would be long gone from office.
Second you will find succession has been tried before. It became a bit messy. And it would still take years. Oh and the last time States succeeded from the Union over a President who they wanted out of office he was reelected. Further IF the states had not succeeded he might not have been reelected but because the Electors of those states didn't submit their votes the President won easily.
OK Smarty pants. Do you know all of Constitutional Law. I admit that I do not. I am not a lawyer nor do I play one TV. I am trying to get people to think beyond what is obvious and to pick the minds of people who know the law.

BOTTOM LINE: Here is the way a President can be removed from Office:
1. He can resign.
2. He can be impeached and convicted.
3. He can die by either natural causes or be murdered.
4. He can be defeated in his bid for a 2nd term.
5. A Constitutional Amendment by way of Either a Convention or proposed by the National Representatives.
However an Amendment takes far longer than 8 years!
That is all. Nothing else unless you want to consider Revolution or coup d'état...
Yes, you can call for anything you want. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper and call for Obama's impeachment, or call your favoriate talk-radio show. There was an article this morning on how the Washington Times allowed an OpEd on their page calling for Obama's impeachment.

No, you cannot. You can support a candidate who runs on a platform of supporting filing articles of impeachment, but I suspect most candidates would shy away from doing that.

We can call for impeachment but we can’t actually impeach the President. Read the constitution, it spells it out clear and simple. Citizens can call for anything, actually doing something about it is another matter.

The Constitution is not some thick book. It can be printed in pamphlet form to fit in your pocket and be read completely an an hour. There is no legal or constitutional shortcut to removal of a sitting president. Wait until January 20, 2013 or elect sufficient numbers of senators and congressmen to this November to vote impeachment and conviction in 2011.

Because our founding father's feared democracy, there is no provision in the constitution for any sort of national referendum whatsoever. That's the simple answer is a nutshell.
He can't be removed from office by the vote of the People only by the provisions listed in the Constitution.

I have not read every comment but merely skimmed and I see this is an old thread but it came up when I Googled an article. First we live in a federal republic not a constitutional republic, constitutional republics do not exist. Look up federal republic and you will find the words many states falling under the laws of one constitution. Now on to your question, yes we can call for the impeachment of a governing power, can we impeach? No. That is up to our representatives to do. But we the people can initiate an inquiry. This is in accordance with a little known part of our constitution called the “Jefferson Manual”. It gives we the people the right to submit a memorial of impeachment. After submossion it is reviewed by Congress and addressed. Hope this helps.
When I refer to “WE” when it come to “impeaching the President” I am referring to the the ROYAL WE.
