Acid attack victim: fearful, but grateful (but it's not a Hate Crime)

Bethany Storro was wheeled into a small conference room with her face wrapped in bandages. Her parents on either side of her, she shoved aside the moments when she’s asked, “Why me?” and instead struck a thankful tone.

“I’m just trying to stay positive,” she said. “It’s not about looks. I can’t let what she did to me ruin my life.”

From the looks of things Thursday, she won’t. The bandages covered her face but were no match for her easy-going disposition and sharp wit.

“I’m generally a happy person — everyone’s just been so nice to me,” she said.

Storro spoke for about 30 minutes in a room at the Oregon Burn Center at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, where she’s receiving medicine to fight off pain and treatment to generate fresh skin.

Storro described her attacker as “pretty,” and said she thinks she had three piercings at the top of her left ear.

She said the woman was black, wore no makeup, and had black hair pulled into a ponytail. Storro said the woman was approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall. She was wearing a green top and khaki shorts.

A Christian, Storro returned throughout the half-hour to her profound belief that God is watching over her.

She points to the sunglasses — credited with saving her eyesight — that she bought 20 minutes before the incident as a sign of divine presence.

“For some reason, I had this feeling I needed to buy sunglasses,” Storro said. “That’s Jesus, for sure.”

Of course it is not a hate crime, the victim is a whitey and the perp allegedly is not.

It was a love crime. See, the perp did it because she loved the ideology that provided the basis for this seemingly random act of love.

Why, even flying airplanes into skyscrapers, killing thousands, is a love crime. The MoHamHeads that did it were just expressing their love for their desert moon god, allah, by killing thousands of infidels and themselves as human sacrifices to their malevolent pagan desert idol.

“Hate Crime” is a deconstructionist term, invented by the Left. We should refrain from using it.

It is a redundancy, as an assault is a hateful act by definition. To define assaults as acts of hate is redundant. The Left creates terminology like this (deconstructionism) to create strawmen for their shrill bleating.

I don't know what that means, except that I think the word "deconstructionist" was invented by the left.

It is a redundancy, as an assault is a hateful act by definition.

They probably should use some word other that "hate" to describe it, but the idea is not redundant. Some crimes are motivated specifically by racial hatred. Some are not. There is a difference.

It may be a societal benefit to crack down on particular types of crimes. On the other hand, it's probably a slippery leftist slope to criminalize thought.

Storro read reporters’ lips as they asked her questions. She suffered spinal meningitis twice as a child, which left her hearing impaired. With that, she circled back to the sunglasses.

“To be hard of hearing and blind? That would just drive them nuts,” she said, laughing and pointing at her parents. “I’m just so glad. It’s a miracle. I mean, 20 minutes.”

What an incredible spirit this woman has. Hopefully the perp is caught ASAP. Someone will recognize that composite drawing.

The assailant very well could have been a dark skinned Arab Muslim. The olive shaped eyes and the nose make me suspect that.

Acid attacks are a common occurrence in among the Taliban to punish women.

Was she wearing anything that could identify her as Christian. Was she speaking about her religion aloud?

On Jane;Valez Mitchell’s show Issues, guest host Carlos somebody and the panel agonized over what might be the motive. At no time was a description of the assailant given. (It would have made a big difference it it was an elderly woman in Amish dress; a tattooed Hispanic; or fat woman). They stated that it was somebody with mental issues and one person suggested it might be gang initiation (not likely if it was somebody over 70). Finally it was labeled as part of the “war on women.” It sounded so stupid.
