Its actually been a long-standing policy for many years, but United Auto Workers leadership have confirmed they will continue to enforce the policy and probably be even more aggressive. This is pure marketing genius I tell you, especially for an organization with a serious image problem.
The Detroit News reports that Kansas City Business Journal reporter James Dornbrook learned this lesson the hard way as he was asked to remove his Toyota Camry from Local 249′s parking lot by an unidentified member. The scribe later wrote that his Camry was built at Toyotas Georgetown, Kentucky plant and that the popular midsize sedan contains more domestic content than the Ford F-150.

Were they kind enough to provide a list of proscribed manufacturers? I could add them to Ford for potential sources whenever it is time to purchase another car.

Their cars are banned from my garage.
Ford must be so proud!

Nothing new here. The auto unions always disallowed ‘foreign’ cars to be parked in their lots.

Most “foreign” cars on the road today are manufactured in the US, and in some cases, moreso than “American” nameplates which often have Canada or Mexico as a final place of assembly.

Considering the way that car companies have all intermingled and purchased stakes in each other, this should be interesting to watch!
To: Steve495
I live close to an old Ford Transmission plant in Ohio that shut down a few years ago. There are bumper stickers everywhere on cars that say things like, “You can’t be patriotic and drive a foreign car” or “When you are starving eat your foreign car.”
I like my Honda Pilot, which is now being made in the foreign country of Alabama.
Did I mention the Ford plant closed?

Oh good grief. I worked a contract in the now shuttered GM Janesville, WI plant. Besides Chevy/GMC Suburbans, the plant manufatured small box trucks. I saw coming off that line both GMC and Mitsubishi trucks. Same materials, same machinery, same workers. Only the badging was different.
Are they gonna check the door jamb to see if my Dodge Dart was made in New Jersey or Windsor, Ontario?

Sorento? How do you like it? Wife and I have been looking at the built in GA KIA's for awhile. IIRC the plant just fired up last year and we've been waiting to see if they're as good as some reports have claimed.
Since we've talked on some of the bike threads I value your opinion.
FWIW Wife is hot for a KIA Soul. Me, not so much. I need something bigger.

The President of the UAW (King) was on CNBC this morning and confirms my belief that union leadership just doesn't get it. He stated that he's tired of giving all the tax breaks to the rich at the expense of the poor and middle class workers.
Really?
Doesn't that bozo realize that the top 10% of income earners in this country shoulder 66% of the tax burden? Doesn't he know that the lower 40% of the income distribution pay no taxes at all? Doesn't he know that those “rich” people are the ones who own the businesses that are going to give people jobs to create the income to buy a car? Sorry, but I see the “rich” creating jobs, donating to charities, supporting education, and a host of other goods things. But, I have to ask myself: What has a poor person done for me lately? You know, I can't find one thing that makes me feel a shred of sympathy for them.

The foreign country called Alabama is now the second-largest auto-producing state in the union. The Hyndai factory outside Montgomery is running full tilt. These things are possible elsewhere...if Alabama can make high quality products that people want to buy at a reasonable price, so can other states. It’s just a matter of telling the UAW to shove it.

I like my KIA. I have 4500 miles on it. The ride is a little hard but not too bad. I wish it had XM and not the other. I get life time on the drive train with my dealer. I got the AWD. I tested the Santa Fe Hyundai and the FWD got light when you accelerated fast. This make the steering wobble. My wife wanted electric features on the passenger side. The cross bars on the roof rack and some other items won't be out until January. I like the back just seats and it is fun to drive. It goes will on dirt roads and I have not had it in snow.
I suggest the new Sportage over the Soul.

Free Republic has it’s share of Big Three only promoters.
They constantly swear off GM and Chrysler for ever and proudly claim they will buy Fords. Some even still use the anachronistic “riceburner” term. Automotive enlightenment has yet to come to many besides the UAW.

IIRC when Toyota entered NASCAR there was a quiz about which NASCAR mfg's car had the most American content and the answer was Toyota.
(Mexico and Canada did not qualify which was why Ford didn't make #1)

Only the badging was different. I'll go you one better. Back in the early-mid 80s, a guy I worked for had a brand new General Motors pickup. On one side, the badging was for Chevrolet, on the other, the badging was GMC. Even the interior had both sets of emblems (the steering wheel had the Chevrolet logo, while the dash had the GMC version). The only explanation was that someone forgot to switch the trim on one side of the line. The truck was supposed to be a Chevrolet, and the VIN proved it out, but the badging was all screwed up. The saddest part is nobody cared.

They’ve done this for years. I called on a Ford plant years and years ago and you could only park in their parking lot if you drove a Ford. If you drove a Chrysler or a GM you had to park across the street and if you drove a foreign car...no matter where it was made...you had to park down the hill in a lot in the ghetto and walk a mile to the plant. They were vindictive bastards.
