Can you imagine the cries of police state, racism, incipient fascism and fill-in-your-favorite-epithet if a conservative pundit—let alone a Republican president—proposed the massive insertion of US military forces into American inner cities for law enforcement purposes?
But that's precisely what Ed Schultz proposed on his MSNBC show this evening.
Ed is apparently unaware that the use of the military for such law-enforcement purposes would raise serious issues under the Posse Comitatus Act. But beyond that, it would utterly distort the mission of our military, and provoke valid civil-liberty concerns. Schultz should try bouncing his brainstorm off the Joint Chiefs and see what kind of reception it receives.
But hey, Ed announced on this evening's show that he will be part of a Big Labor march on Washington in DC in October. Let that be a Dem pre-election theme: troops into Chicago! Here's Ed at his detached-from-reality best . . .

I think Mr Ed was trying to make the point that soldiers were misused in fighting a war(s) when they could be better employed in America coming between violent gangs in Chicago and other big cities.
That was precisely his point: but would you really want to see US troops introduced into inner cities for law-enforcement purposes?
Forgetting the Posse Comitatus Act, this idiot (like all leftists) would send in the troops to stand around and look menacing. But when they would send them unarmed or without any ROE to shoot back.
It would take the gang bangers less than a week to start shooting troops for sport. And when some soldier did shoot one of the punks, they would want to string him up from the rafters for it.
This pile of excrement needs to stay on TV. I’m convinced that he is winning more converts to conservatism than anyone else out there.
Only if they got danger pay and it was declared a free fire zone.

Didn’t mean I agreed with Mr Ed. Our troops are to defend our borders or engage a foreign enemy abroad, period.
Illinois has her own national guard which she can uses for axillary police forces. Assuming she doesn’t trust her general population to form a ill-regular militia and enforce the laws.
-Of course that would require that they be allowed to have guns!
Chicago, Illinois has no right to uses the regular U.S. Army unless their is an insurrection against the State of Illinois.
Crime is not an insurrection, and even if there were a genuine insurrection against the oppressive government Chicago or Illinois authorizes anyway.
I would NOT support Federal intervention to protect the corrupt and oppressive authorizes in Chicago.
Instead I would be hoping that such an insurrection were successful in destroying that corrupt political machine.
It would be a quagmire!
