WASHINGTON—The most powerful voice in America’s energy debate is coming to Ottawa for a series of meetings to learn more about Canada’s controversial oilsands development, the Star has learned.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected in the Canadian capital Wednesday and Thursday for a summit of G8 Speakers. But the journey now will include several high-level meetings focusing on Alberta’s energy-intensive oilsands, sources on both sides of the border confirm.

But the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa also has reached out to a range of environmental groups and independent research organizations to arrange a separate meeting with Pelosi and her delegation. Among them are Toronto-based Environmental Defense and Calgary’s Pembina Institute, an environmental think tank.

key voices in the oilsands debate will have Pelosi’s undivided attention.

She will barely hear them through the unending racket of leftist propaganda that resonates inside her skull every waking and sleeping moment of every single day.

This is pretty obvious. Obama and Pelosi want to kill the oilsands business, but they don’t want to offend Canada in the process. So, they will pretend to be acting at the urging of those nice Canadian environmentalists. They will find plenty of excuses to delay and investigate and regulate and . . . kill the oilsands business.

Just being good neighbors, you know.

That would be a neat trick, to expand U.S. environmental jurisdiction to another country.

I think industry workers and protesters should give them a “warm” reception and make things equally hot for the environmental groups as well.

Pure lies.

Pelosi’s oil drilling bans, oil and enviro restrictions on energy BEGAN killing the economy in 2007 - when she took office - and THAT started our on-going recession.

Canada is welcome to her socialism.

The interesting thing is that Canada is filled with socialists and has had a leftward government for generations. Even the present conservative government is not all that conservative by our standards.

But Canada is also loaded with natural resources, and somehow or other they have managed to do all that mining and drilling instead of being apparently more socialist than the U.S.

Even the province of Quebec, despite its liberal politics, is mine-friendly.

Interesting to see how this plays out. BQI (a tar sands company) has taken a dive recently, and I wonder if rumors of environmental foot-dragging may not have been responsible?

It is good when the witch is not here but she and the US don’t have any business in Canada.
