Reade Seligmann Starts Law School at Emory University (DukeLax update)
Liestoppers Meeting ^ | September 4, 2010 | Sceptical

Posted on 09/04/2010 2:34:23 PM PDT by abb

Reade Seligmann is now a first-year law student. He is into his second week of classes at Emory University School of Law.

In an e-mail response to my query, Reade says he is excited to be starting what he hopes will be a long and fulfilling career in law. He reports that he already has a heavy assignment load but that he is happy to be an L1.

He concludes, "Thanks again for all of your support and and please send my best to all of my friends in the liestoppers crew."

***

I am very pleased that this outstanding young man has not only survived the nightmare in Durham, but thrived. He did well at Brown University, both academically and as a leader of the lacrosse team. I am sure that he will meet the challenges of law school with the same determination, intelligence and good-heartedness that has marked his life so far. He is a winner!

You hate his comment because you assume all goodness is just hypocrisy, a view libertarians generally seem share with liberals.

Seligmann got what he deserved when he sued Duke and the other people that tried to framed and defamed him.

On the other hand, at least he has the money to pay for law school without loans and still have plenty left over. That's a good thing because the prospects of finding a good lawyer position after law school is between slim and none unless he has connections and Emory law school isn't exactly a top tier school.

I wish him well. Guys like that should be an asset to criminal law, whether it be a prosecutor or defense attorney. He knows firsthand what abuse of power is.

That's why there's a civil court system. To compensate and try to make right those who were wronged by individuals. Seligmann was very wronged by Duke and Durham County.

And prior to this incident, Reade Seligman spent his spare time doing volunteer work in Applachia and poor areas of New York (page 14, Until Proven Innocent). There had been an all day party going on in the house, mostly consisting of beer pong and people playing washers. Reade had been out all day playing golf and showed up at the party that his Lacrosses team was having. He did not know that there was going to be strippers at the party. There is a time-stamped picture of Reade sitting on the floor shrinking back with a look of distaste and then he left, about 20 or 30 seconds after the strippers started “dancing”.
So a kid went to a party, didn’t know there were strippers there, and left as soon as the strippers started dancing, and you think he deserved it. Wow.

We on the right often get upset about the rights that “criminals” have, but the Duke Lacrosse Team situation is Exhibit A for the importance of giving stringent procedural rights for defendants in criminal cases.

I know that. The point I was making was that law schools all over the country are lying to prospective law studentsd about their job prospects once they graduate. Those prospects are extremely bleak for most law school graduates and for almost all students is hardly worth the investment in time and money.

Told him to come over to Free Republic and see what I was saying about that nonsense a year ago.

To: abb There was no shortage of villains in that story but the biggest villain in the picture was the ordinary little goofball living and voting in and around Durham NC who returned Mike Nifong to office after the whole world knew what was actually happening. There is no excuse for that. 12 posted on Saturday, September 04, 2010 3:45:14 PM by wendy1946 [ Post Reply | Private Reply | To 1 | View Replies | Report Abuse]

No, not really: You have to understand those boys were considered "Rich Yankees".

They're not like the typical southern voter ... i.e. Ignorant, mouth breathers, whose family trees actually have branches. These are the guys who sleep with and fool around with the hard bod cheerleaders, the kind the typical Southern Voter can only dream about... or buy a XXXXXXX magazine, when the Baptist Preacher ain't a look'n.

If Mike Nifong had of pulled this off he would have been the Pride of The South. 'Cause he put those 'Rich - Yankee boys in their place'

Hell the Democrat Party of North Carolina was going to Sponsor the "Mike Nifong" Special NASCAR fuel racer... so all you typical Southern Voters could slap each other on the back and "say - You go Mike - you put those rich Yankees boys in their place"

Shame on you all. You could have of stopped it, so why not? (Read the above - I typed it real slow so you'all could read it)

Durham strikes me as being substantially worse than the rest of NC.

Not really, the Hillbillys are quite happy with their ‘disability checks’ and their NASCAR on a 52 inch TV

From KC Johnson:

Nifong and the Black Vote

Thursday, November 09, 2006

A glance through the precinct-by-precinct statistics for Tuesday's election demonstrates the success of D.A Mike Nifong's race-baiting campaign strategy—for his political well-being, at least, if not for his requirement to serve as "minister of justice."

African-American precincts featured a wholly racialized voting pattern, in which Nifong appears to have received upwards of 95 percent of the black vote.

You're saying that the Fong was the first black DA in Durham NC (where have I heard that one before)...

I mean, there's only one right way to look at Durham NC and that would be through the crosshairs of a Norden bombsight.
