Voters deserve to know how much of John Hickenlooper's charity has been to political groups like the Chinook Fund.
The protest group Re-create 68 was one of the biggest annoyances in the long run-up to Denver's hosting the 2008 Democratic National Convention. And now we find out that a non-profit the mayor of Denver helped establish years ago actually funded Re-create 68 as it tried to disrupt the mayor's greatest challengepulling off the DNC.
The 2010 gubernatorial race just keeps getting stranger.
Re-create 68 caused Denver officials months of headaches, and the group's over-the-top comments contributed to fears that cost taxpayers millions of dollars in security preparations.
So it was a great irony, and somewhat exasperating, to learn that the Chinook Fund, which Mayor John Hickenlooper helped establish, funds the group and others considered "too risky or too radical" by mainstream foundations.
In previous editorials, we've called on Hickenlooper, and other gubernatorial candidates, to publicly release portions of their tax forms that show which organizations they donate money to. In light of the report by The Denver Post's Karen E. Crummy, we call again for Hickenlooper to be more transparent about his charitable giving.

Baring some sort of miracle, Colorado [a state whose population is still more Conservative than liberal, whose population would choose a normal, serious, level headed experienced Republican/conservative over a liberal Democrat by a large margin and which until a few years ago had two Republican senators and a Republican governor] will have a governor to the left of Obama. We will have a moveon.org Olberman/Maddow loving, Ward Churchill/La Raza/black clad anarchist supporting chief executive.
At a very minimum he will appoint Supreme Court justices which will rubber stamp ACLU initiatives, gay marriage and illegal alien amnesty, sanctuary city policies.
There is no question that under his rule Colorado will be a sanctuary state. There is no question that under his rule we will see massive increases in public employee union pensions which will bankrupt Colorado just like California.
It is not an exaggeration to say that the state of Colorado will have an executive which if not actually a Communist, is documentably a Communist sympathizer.
Hickelopper started and gave money to the Chinnok fund to finance groups so far to the left, that so called progressives and democratic socialist would not even finance.
Futhur evidence of just how far left Hickelopper is was revealed earlier this year. There was an epidemic of assaults on whites in downtown Denver by gangs of Afro-American youths. Under Hickelooper’s orders the police concealed this information from the general public and no warning was given; leading to additional assaults and eventually the murder of a college student by people involved in these assaults. He choose political correctness over peoples safety.
For the nation this coming election will be a breath of fresh air; for Colorado it will be like a death sentence.
Long before Hickenlooper ran for mayor in 2003, he helped start the Chinook Fund. For 15 years Hickenlooper donated tens of thousands of dollars to the fund, which supported liberal activist groups like Colorado ACORN, Denver Cop Watch and the Gender Identity Center of Colorado.
