Fareed Zakaria: Al-Qaeda Not Really A Big Deal, Americans ‘Overreacted’ To 9/11

Fareed Zakaria warns in Newsweek that Al-Qaeda was significantly more incompetent that Americans believed in the aftermath of 9/11, and the result is a “national-security state” that threatens civil liberties. Any other time of year, comments like this would be controversial at best, especially from the mild-mannered Zakaria. So close to the anniversary of the most painful event in recent American history, it borders on the callous.

In one of his final columns in Newsweek (Zakaria will be soon moving to Time), Zakaria questions whether the American government should have increased spending in national security after 9/11, since “Al Qaeda is simply not that deadly a threat.” He notes that the US spends “more than the rest of the world spends put together” and that the Department of Homeland Security and it’s satellite organizations “produce 50,000 reports a year—136 a day!—which of course means few ever get read.” Imagine that– the United States spends more money on national security than other countries; given the open-endedness of his point, this means we should probably be shocked that the US is spending more money on national security than, say, Switzerland or Vanuatu.

I suppose then, by his twisted logic, that any crime perpetrated upon him, from a simple shove to assault with a deadly weapon & beyond, does not warrant a call to 9-1-1 (pun intended).

After all, if an act of war is "no big deal", then certainly the "lesser crimes" perpetrated upon Zakaria mean nothing to him.

So, to all the criminals out there! Feel free to enrich your lifestyle at the expense of Fareed. It's no big deal to him.

“But of course being upset that some church a half a world away is burning Korans isn’t overreacting.”

How many ours has he done on that now? 2, 3?

“We overreacted to Pearl Harbor too I bet.”

We did. However, when we allow the Japanese to build a shrine on top of the Memorial, we’ll be Jake with the world again.

I grow very weary of liberals like Harvard/Yale-educated Indian Muslims lecturing Americans about how Americans should behave. This pompous s.o.b. really annoys me!

He has a point, but indirectly. Our government did indeed focus on security, but neither Bush nor Obama secured the borders. We haven’t fixed the diversity lotteries, or the tracking of those here on temporary visas, or on a longer term basis, the anchor baby problem. So, we let in terrorist after terrorist, not to mention freeloader after freeloader. We don’t know which of our neighbors we can trust, because we don’t know who they are. To compensate, we have to over-react within our borders, with disagreeable results.

We know there’s a threat, but our response is unbalanced, not to mention largely administered by idiots such as Janet Neapolitano and Eric Holder. To use a biological analogy, we leave the skin cuts untreated and flood the body’s internals with harsh antibiotics and purgatives.

My son over-reacted with his M249 Squad Automatic Weapon many times when he was deployed in Iraq. And here, all the insurgent fighters did was drop screaming.

Yeah, I guess you’re right.

Fareed Zakaria is Muslim Brotherhood. He’s been singing this tune for some time. He is a 5th columnist pure and simple.

He has also written sympathetically about the regime in Iran and its election system.

Zakaria is a bad guy. He’s not dumb. He is on the other side.

A moslem with a Yale/Harvard pedigree. He is worth reading because he defines what our putative ruling class wants us to hear.

Enough of this idiocy. The guy thinks we shouldn’t react when 3,000 people are murdered in cold blood on our soil? Al Qaeda declared war on us five years before 9/11. They are the ones who were overreacting. There is simply no justification for what they did.

Agreed. Zakareia works for our enemies. Last year, there weren't many videos or movies or discussions about September 11th. I wonder what the media will do this year.

Zakaria is becoming more and more unbalanced as he watches his muslim brother Obama melt down into impotence.

“Fareed Zakaria is prime example of an idiot and his idiocy.... “

This sums up most muzzies. I tell ya it’s from the centuries of inbreeding. Think about it. Have you ever seen a society that has a greater percentage of birth defects, mental illnesses, and numerous other genetic afflictions than any other society? Everything single thing the muzzies do is assbackwards.

Fareed Zakaria is “the” spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood.

~~!~’

He’s a good koranimal who’s extremely proficient with muz-speak.

I agree with the post saying he “danced all night on 9/11” too.

Bingo. He’s not dumb.

He is fawned over as a true “intellectual”.

He’s a waffler. He supported going into Iraq. Then he retracted.
