That's what's been at the heart of all our efforts: building our economy on a new foundation so that our middle class doesn't just survive this crisis â but thrives once we emerge.
That's why we passed health insurance reform that will make coverage affordable; reform that ends the indignity of insurance companies jacking up your premiums at will or denying you coverage just because you get sick; reform that shifts control from them to you.
But there are some folks in Washington who see things differently. When it comes to just about everything we've done to strengthen the middle class and rebuild our economy, almost every Republican in Congress said no. Even where we usually agree, they say no. They think it's better to score political points before an election than actually solve problems. So they said no to help for small businesses. No to middle-class tax cuts. No to unemployment insurance. No to clean energy jobs. No to making college affordable. No to reforming Wall Street. Even as we speak, these guys are saying no to cutting more taxes for small business owners. I mean, come on! Remember when our campaign slogan was âYes We Can?â These guys are running on âNo, We Can't,â and proud of it. Really inspiring, huh?
To steal a line from our old friend, Ted Kennedy: what is it about working men and women that they find so offensive?

Telling the union people what they want to hear. The truth is irrelevant. Just tell them what THEY want to hear.
While we are discussing another stimulus, take a look at this:
FDR’s policies prolonged Depression by 7 years, UCLA economists calculate

August 10, 2004
Two UCLA economists say they have figured out why the Great Depression dragged on for almost 15 years, and they blame a suspect previously thought to be beyond reproach: President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
After scrutinizing Roosevelt’s record for four years, Harold L. Cole and Lee E. Ohanian conclude in a new study that New Deal policies signed into law 71 years ago thwarted economic recovery for seven long years.
“Why the Great Depression lasted so long has always been a great mystery, and because we never really knew the reason, we have always worried whether we would have another 10- to 15-year economic slump,” said Ohanian, vice chair of UCLA’s Department of Economics. “We found that a relapse isn’t likely unless lawmakers gum up a recovery with ill-conceived stimulus policies.”
....
The fact that the Depression dragged on for years convinced generations of economists and policy-makers that capitalism could not be trusted to recover from depressions and that significant government intervention was required to achieve good outcomes,” Cole said. “Ironically, our work shows that the recovery would have been very rapid had the government not intervened.”
Pathetic.
Did Bush (or Reagan, or even Clinton, for that matter) engage in this kind of partisan attack directly on his opposition?
Clinton did it a bit, but I don't remember it raised to this level.
I don't remember Bush or Reagan doing it at all.
Telling the union people what they want to hear. The truth is irrelevant. Just tell them what THEY want to hear.
I don’t think the millions of unemployed and under employed are going to fall for this bull. This evil bastard is toast and he’s going to burn down the house (the United States) before he surrenders it. What an evil bastard.
welcome to the party pal.
And that’s the point of the phony 50 billion dollar “stimulus” Hussein is pushing. He simply wants to paint republicans as standing in the way of job creation. But it ain’t gonna WORK, Hussein.
The “media” is now calling it the “lame duck Congress”. It used to be called “scorched earth policy”. If they can’t have their communist America, they will destroy the whole thing before they are thrown out.
Bush and Reagan had class and were genuine statesmen — they did not try to blame things on others, even when there was good reason to do so.
Bush inherited a recession from Clinton, yet, instead of blame, he focused on restarting the economy, with taxcuts, and he was successful, despite the terrorist attacks, which also significantly negatively impacted the US economy.
Pure Bolshevistic class-warfare BS!
LIES, lYING, LIAR.
LLS
If they cant have their communist America, they will destroy the whole thing before they are thrown out.
Exactly!
As someone said on FoxNews, how come the Democrats claim to stand for the workers, but hate those who provide them jobs, the employers.
“These are the folks whose policies helped devastate our middle class and drive our economy into a ditch. And now they’re asking you for the keys back.” President Obama 2010
No, Mr. President. Only dimocrats drive into ditches. Young ladies die in the process. Ever ask dear friend Ted Kennedy about that?
Why couldn’t the union booger-eaters dress up a little? If I was going to go see the president (and be seen on TV), I’d wear something better than a tee shirt and ball cap.
He’s trying to be the “yes parent” telling the kids they can have ice cream for dinner despite the fact that there is no ice cream, no dinner, and no money for food or rent. Then the republicans can be the bearers of bad news.
You would think they would dress better on Commie Christmas.
Naw, Bush and Reagan were Presidents for all the people. They did not engage with the ankle-biters, but kept their eyes on the work to be done.
Obama is just the biggest baby-whiner.
Fitting that he went to Milwaukee, a city whose economy and industry that was once the envy of the world was destroyed by trade unionism.
I never listen to the O-Man. His talks are all the same—Blah Blah blah, hate Bush, Racism, Evil Rich fat cats, More race. Hope and Change. Etc... I will let FOX News tell me what he said of interest—if anything.
>>ends the indignity of insurance companies jacking up your premiums at will or denying you coverage just because you get sick; reform that shifts control from them to you.<<
Begins the indignity of government jacking up your premiums at will or denying coverage just because you are old; reform that shifts control from you to me.
And since when does he know what PUBs are saying? The only time he listened to PUBs was so he could say:”We won”.
demagogue, demagoguery
Now he presents himself as the Champion Of The Middle Class.
In fact, he is intent on destroying the middle class and taking away our ability to earn a living independant of Obama handouts.
Free people with a way to earn their own income and make their own way in the world are apt to be hard to control and not easily herded into government plantations.
Sad to say, the big unions have become partners in the socialist takeover of America. Their leaders are nothing more than parasitic rumpswabs for Obama and other democrats. They are happy to run their own plantations for him as long as they get their percentage. He is happy to let them screw their membership, sucking their money and independance, as long as they deliver the vote.
Hey nobama, God doesn’t like it when you repeatedly break one of his commandments. You’ve gotten so good at it I suspect He has a special place reserved for you.
Obama touts this as “roadways, railways and runways”. All of these things are under governmental control. Once again, he and Auntie Nan will be sending taxpayer $$$ to Democrat strongholds to be doled out to preferred contractors.
How many unemployed Americans are construction workers working for unionized companies? Jobs bill - it is to laugh.

For all our work on our lawns, gardens and fields, we need to thank God and ask for his blessings.
O God, Source and Giver of all things, Who does manifest Thy infinite majesty, power and goodness in the earth about us, we give You honor and glory.
For the sun and the rain, for the manifold fruits of our fields, for the increase of our herds and flocks, we thank You. For the enrichment of our souls with divine grace, we are grateful.
Supreme Lord of the harvest, graciously accept us and the fruits of our toil, in union with Christ, Your Son, as atonement for our sins, for the growth of Your Church, for peace and charity in our homes, for salvation to all. Amen.
